The only time I think Jesse went too far was the tick tick tick tick stuff at the end of the prison scene. He was like a slobbering loon there at the end. It was such a stupid way to end an otherwise wonderful and forboding scene.

But I was fine with the rest of his scenes. Jesse made Lex into a young narcissistic sociopath that has way way too much time and money. Jeese's Lex is basically what could have happened to Bruce if circumstances had been just a bit different. He could have come unhinged at a young age and done horrible things with his resources if he had been left alone without Alfred. Alfred gave Bruce a somewhat decent structured childhood. Alfred was a supportive father figure that cared for him and taught him right and wrong. Alfred's basically a bulwark in Bruce's life. Jesse's Lex clearly didnt have a good father figure or a mother that could be there for him and he just went wrong. He's careless, cold, uses his tesources for personal pleasure, gain, and to harm others. I think it creates a nice dichotomy.

Whether that is what Snyder was trying to convey is anyone's guess, but its what I took away from it.

I actually saw it theorised by someone who would be privy to that kind of knowledge that they let Eissenberg do whatever he wanted because they thought they had a Jack Sparrow situation where crowds would love the performance that everyone on set was hating.

Given the reception, I hope they recalibrated his performance for Justice League because it really was a dealbreaker in BvS for me.

Im hoping the character has evolved some too. By the time we see him next he will be older and have prison time under his belt so it gives the writers and Jesse the perfect excuse to change the character some. They cant or shouldnt completely change him, but they can as you say recalibrate some things. Pull back some on the hyperactive mannerisms and make him a bit weary and even more calculating. With each film he is in make him a bit more formideable and develope him continually. Really build the character into a worthwhile Lex Luthor.

They have the opportunity to do with Lex what Marvel did with Loki. Loki went from the jealous spiteful petulant brother to leading an alien invasion, to helping Thor stop Malekith, to ruling Asgard and he has developed some actual layers.

Frankly Id be fine with a batman film involving Riddler as a serial killing super smart person that Batman is trying to stay ahead of and catch. Hell, do it on a modest budget and rate it R. A good murder mystery thriller where we get to really see Batman's detective skills. Focus on the characters rather than cgi spectacle. I would love that.

Just so people know....the reason I put my age in posts like that is, so many times I will see someone posting that movie "A" is the best superhero movie ever made....and upon further talking to them, you find out that they haven't seen 97% of the superhero movies and less than a hundred movies of any genre in their life. I want people to know that I have a fair amount of experience in seeing movies.

As to MoS.....for me, it was in the most part a good movie....my main complaint was the way they handled Pa Kent.

You'll be happy to know amount of films I've seen register well into the thousands, well over 100 superhero films, including 40's serials and I was obsessed with Chris Reeve and Keaton's films before the first comic book I picked up which had Catwoman and Jean-Paul Valley as AzBats (I wouldn't learn this until later, I just assumed that Batman had as much variant suits in the comics as he did in his action figures), so I hope that gives credence to the 25 year figure, hopefully gives me a little bit of credibility in your eyes.

I absolutely do agree that Pa Kent let the film down, I think they tried to do a few things too many, like making him an example of humanities belief the universe centres around us and that Kal was sent here to solve our problems rather than the desperate act of two parents to save their child, but then on the same hand had him try to tell Clark to keep his powers a secret, which is contradictory and muddled, even if I do think there's rodents out there who are massively intentionally misreading the role to extremes. But I don't actually mind the latter since there's a whole movie in the franchise about how shady the government and their treatment of metahumans is, so Pa Kent wasn't necessarily wrong, just should've been written far better.

But the rest of the film I really do love. It's not some shiny new toy that makes me want to throw the Donner films away because OMGZ teh CGI. But Clark as a guy who spent his 20s, somewhat aimlessly, not holding down a steady job, but only because he couldn't help himself and just had to keep helping people and putting being a decent guy first. Then he gets to go on a journey, an adventure, learn something about himself, find a purpose, still get to help others. So yeah, it's the inherent wish fulfilment of Superman, but rooted in something I deeply identify with.

Even the new movies reference the Reeves Superman films. In Superman 4 the Quest for Peace, Lex makes a clone of Superman and himself called Nuclear Man that has all of Superman's powers except he has orange electricity, long finger nails, and instead of kryptonite his weakness is being deprived of the sun. In BvS Lex creates Doomsday by trying to reanimate the corpse of General Zod while mixing it with some of his own blood and it makes a spiky monster with orange electricity.
