Marvel is spending WAY more on this show than I initially expected. They've brought in people that are by no means cheap and using music that can't be cheap either.

^Cheo Hodari Coker (the showrunner) talks a little about how him being a music journalist in the past and having friendships with Raphael Saadiq, Faith Evans, D-Nice, etc. allowed for him to hit them up when this show came around and ask them to be in it.

But yeah, the musical appearances are going to be insane for this show. According to this video:

The series will feature onscreen performances by Faith Evans (confirmed to perform "Mesmerized"), Raphael Saadiq, Charles Bradley, The Delfonics, Method Man, and Jidenna (who will perform an original song entitled "Long Live the Chief"), with possibly even more.

Maybe Netflix is willing to give bigger budgets to these given the success of DD and JJ. Who knows how popular they actually are.

Or maybe they can spend more on the music, if Cage is cheaper than DD. I would imagine DD's fight scenes and acrobatics being more expensive than Luke Cage just not giving a damn, lol.

Netflix has tons of money. Or at the very least, Netflix has no problem acting like they have tons of money and spending tons of money on their content these days.

I mean, people in the industry basically told me that Netflix "bought" their awards to legitimize them as a "TV network." And by bought, it means they spent a lot of money on shows like House of Cards and spent money in awards campaign season. There's even a video of Ray Wise in a skit talking about it.

My point is this. Netflix don't mind none spending lots of money to make money.

They have mentioned her role being more expanded in this show which makes sense given she is a character from the Luke Cage comics.
