Sometimes I feel for my generation. I truly do. Next I will hear Dr. Strangelove is also boring.

Dr. Strangelove is a great movie.
Without meaning to hijack this thread, if I want beautiful images with next to no narrative I'll go to a museum. When there was an actual story (HAL 2000) I was engaged other than that I thought it was the most boring thing I've ever seen.

2001 is damn boring, classic or not, the pacing is HORRENDOUS. Where MOS is non stop action, 2001 is non stop pacing and buildup! lol.

I consider it one of Kubrick's weaker films.

And yeah...Blade Runner's score sucked....like the movie, but not as much as the movie itself. :awesome: What a snorfest. Two of the most overrated clunkers of all time, IMO.

Not to take away from Ridley or Kubrick's other works, I just have never felt all the love those two get, even when I put myself in the time that they were made.

Couldn't agree more

I actually don't get it when people regard Kubrick that highly I haven't liked one of his films (well except for the Shining which I thinks OK). When I talk about great directors I think of people like Hitchcock.

Don't even get me started on Ridley Scott, I'm still mad at him for Prometheus, probably the film that's pissed me off more than any other and that's nothing to do with been an Alien fan as I'm not the biggest fan of tha film either although I do like it.

Will get to CK, and LoA at some point.
I've seen Barb Wire so surely I don't need to see Casablanca ;)
Citizen Kane is a great piece of film, but it has never really won me over. I can appreciate it, but I don't think I will ever love it.

LoA is great imo. You see where Nolan acquired his ideas on cinematography. But my favorite Lean film is definitely Bridge on the Rive Kwai. One of my absolute favorites.

i thought it would get a bump like it normally did in Tuesday?

Normally yes but all movies had very soft drops on Monday, so smaller increases or none at all on Tuesday is not that surprising. Plus with two new movies opening tonight and July 4th skewing some of the patterns. Most movies dropped, if MoS was the only one to drop than that would be troublesome.

The evening openings of LR and DM2 cut into the overall box office across the board.
wow, they open Tuesday that early!!!???
then, the number of screens for MOS must have dropped tremendously.

The screen count is going to go down but there will still be plenty of viewings available, there will just be more people watching per showing.

If you are a fan of film, you watch it at least once. It like Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Star Wars, Raging Bull, 2001, or Lawrence of Arabia. You don't have to like it, but it is almost required viewing. :D

Ehh....yeah, I will give you that. Just to be "in" on the conversation at least. :cwink:

I can't stand Blade Runner, I'm glad I'm not the only one. For me is vastly overrated but to each their own.

Isn't it? Even the performances are jarring...I kept asking myself why Ford would even do such a thing, all I thought while watching it was how un-Ford like his role is in the movie compared to all of his other roles. How many other actors could have played his part in that film? A lot more than who could have played Han Solo and Indy, I'll tell you that much (and even many of Ford's later films...Blade Runner is one of his most generic movie parts, IMO).

Noo...Strangelove is great. It's humorous and it's got a great cast (not that the other films had poor casts but they actually get to shine in Strangelove, IMO).

It is a classic because it is perfect film making. It is his best film. It isn't my favorite Kubrick film (Strangelove is), but it is undoubtedly his best.

Pacing is horrendous if you are impatience. 2001 is a perfect example of tension.

I love how descriptive your complaints are. Calling something boring, a snorefest or overrated are classic examples of not being able to actually coherently express an argument.

Yeah, the big thing is the mid-week releases. They change everything really. Same with the holiday.

Evening/Midnight showings. They open tomorrow.

I have always been on the fence about BR. I overall enjoy the movie but I never fail to fall asleep in the middle for about ten minutes (the piano scene is the trigger for nap time).

Regardless of my mixed feelings, I watch it once in a while to take in the awe inspiring performance of Rutger Hauer as Roy. One of the great film performances.

I like some of Kubrick's films, I enjoy the ones I like more when I realize how many ideas originated in them, like so many of them we have seen over and over in multiple movies again and again today but many of them originated in his films (and 2001 has some cool ideas too...it's just sooo......damn......slooow). While I do understand where you are coming from and agree to point, the flip side of that is I feel like sometimes people look at some of his films like how someone from my generation may look at the original Star Wars; they may not find it all that "great" because the ideas and concepts that the film introduced are now so firmly embedded in our culture they've just grown up with them and it's the world they live in so it's hard for them to really appreciate (or even "enjoy") it.

But yeah...I maintain that Blade Runner and 2001 are awful. Lol. And Kubrick is okay, he's done some good stuff, but he isn't "the greatest".

(For me, off the top of my head, I liked Full Metal Jacket, Clockwork, Shining, and Strangelove (although Strangelove is a bit dated...still enjoyable though))

And Hitchcock is great, I like pretty much any film of his that comes to mind.

Don't even get me started on Ridley Scott, I'm still mad at him for Prometheus, probably the film that's pissed me off more than any other and that's nothing to do with been an Alien fan as I'm not the biggest fan of tha film either although I do like it.

Right there with ya.

i am more interested to see if MOS can outperform the other movies and remain it's 5th place. like WHD, HEAT and WWZ. can it?

It will be in the Top 5 on Tuesday but by Wednesday it'll be out of there. DM2 and LR will bump it out. But there's a chance it will pass WHD or remain close to it.

Scorsese is my all time favorite. Kurosawa, Kubrick, Lean, Spielberg, Ozu, and the Coens come in right behind. I really like Hitchcock as well. Rope, Rear Window and Vertigo are incredible.

Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, Edgar Wright, Brad Bird and Joe Wright for the newer generation.

I really think the original Psycho deserves more love than it gets (and it gets a lot). Anthony Perkins was a great actor, too.

Psycho is almost one of those films that loses a little bit of its luster because it is so widely known. You know it before you see it. It is a great film, but I have always found Hitchcock's work with Jimmy Stewart to be his best.

Yeah, his stuff with Jimmy is awesome. And I loved Psycho. :D
I still remember when I bought the Hitchcock collection. Had no idea what Rope was. By the end of the film, the tension nearly killed me. At his best, Hitchcock was something else.

I agree. And I think part of why I liked Psycho so much is because I'm not a huge horror fan usually due to the fact that I don't care much for gore porn (and that genre in general I guess but still). But yeah...Hitchcock was a brilliant, brilliant man.

huh... it just fades out normally. thought it could hold better and stronger...
damn, never thought WWZ and Brad Pit would perform that good.

IM3 was still in top 10 after 3 months!!!

How is that even possible? Iron Man 3 hasn't even been out 3 months. Barely 2.

“The thing is, there are a lot of movies over-performing,” he continues. “Iron Man 3, Man of Steel,World War Z, they’ve all been shattering what people thought they were going to do. That kind of strength is heartening, and needed, after a very weak first quarter.”

Just an example of how to industry insiders Man of Steel is essentially considered a great success.
