Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - Part 11

My mom's a grandmother and she loved Man of Steel. And she usually never even goes to superhero movies.

Sorry for that, didn't mean to imply it literally. I misspoke. I just meant people who are stuck in the Donner universe. Could be someone age 30 or any age.

Maybe when some of the posters here predicted $1bill they were assuming Superman Returns would help it the same way Batman Begins helped The Dark Knight. However, I think Superman Returns hurt the reputation of Superman for the general audience (the general audience that prefers extreme action anyway). Fact is, Superman Returns is not Batman Begins. Man Of Steel is playing the role of Batman Begins. And Batman Begins was nowhere near as successful as Man Of Steel (in terms of telling tickets). So MOS has been a humongous triumph, perfectly shaping the world for MOS2 to dominate just as much as The Dark Knight did (although Heath Ledger's death probably played a role in that).

No. The people who predicted 1bil are being asinine and forget that reboots traditionally have never made a billion (maybe this changes in the future, who knows?). Why would you assume people think of Superman Returns as a precursor to Man of Steel when you clearly see 2 different actors portraying Superman, and two different suits? I don't think people are that dumb to assume so. Furthermore, that's why your example doesn't really work, considering BB was a prequel to TDK, whereas SR isn't a prequel to MoS. So that argument can't be made effectively.

And secondly, Batman Begins didn't really do much to convince people to watch the sequel considering the difference in worldwide money (370mil vs. 1bil), despite the positive reviews (and even then I wouldn't compare it to MOS, considering 2005 dollars is probably a hell of a lot different than 2013 dollars). TDK was successful due to the fact that it transcended comic book genre conventions and became a crime drama that happened to involve Batman. And of course, Ledger's performance revolutionized how we saw the Joker on-screen. TDK caught lightning in a bottle so to speak.

I thought there is enough bootleg on youtube to spoil the market.

I actually was concerned that stigma of SR (which I like a lot, but don't love 7.5/10) would actually suppress the BO for MOS. I think it did to a degree, and without it, I think MOS would have had a shot at being the first billion dollar reboot. But what's done is done, and I'm grateful to have SR (and L & C and Smallville)in my collection, because if you ask me we can never have too much Superman.

Of course! I can't wait to watch it again( now with my family.). I've watched in a preview last saturday.:word:

Do you think the overall response to MOS is going to be favorable in Brazil, and what do you guess it's final Box Office tally will be when it has completed it's run there?

From what i get, it already is. The preview sessions were crazy, and sold out really fast.
I honestly think it will do about 25M; maybe more. That would put it close to tdkr's numbers.

So they weren't free screenings, and that means to money goes towards overall Brazil BO?

Ok let's say $30 million for Japan. $25 million for Brazil and another $ 40 million in the North American market. Add that to the $532 million we know its at right now and that is and that gives us $627 million without adding anymore B.O. From any other country. No way imo this movie won't hit $700 million. Isn't basic math ( Kevin Smith take note) a wonderful thing!

That's what I've been saying man. And to think, but I think $150 million beyond the $627m ww is entirely feasibility if we think about the entire Box Office run for every country. It's only been out in Australia for a week, still has a week+ to go in China, etc...

$700 is absolute lowest

Or anyone who just preferred the Donner films. I don't see a reason to insult them, either. It's just a difference of opinion, after all.

I concur, the numbers and its obvious momentum don't lie.

And her I thought the board was being good and not insulting the Donnerverse. Alas, I was wrong. :(

S:TM will always have special place in my heart, as it was, and is a magical piece of filmmaking. With MOS the torch has finally been passed and Henry IS Superman like no one else since CR. Hopefully Henry will portray Superman for many years so we can watch him (Henry) and the character grow and evolve in MOS and WF/JL movies.

If 'grandmother' is an insulting word, yeah. It was in reference to people who hate MOS. And the only way to hate MOS is to value the things MOS happens to lack. And those things are qualities which can be found in Superman The Movie.
