Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - Part 11

I thought that only 10-15% of the OS take goes to the studio, which is why the domestic number is so important. I learned that elsewhere. I've heard others elsewhere stick by that number, including people claiming to work in the industry. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I am not in the industry but here are examples to back up the notion that I've heard that only a tiny portion goes to the studio :
The Golden Compass
Eragon
Tron Legacy
............... WW grosses here merit sequels but they didn't happen because of a poor domestic performance.
Can anyone clarify how much the studio does take from the OS?

I'm not sure if that's the exact figure but yes the take is much smaller compared to domestic. I think it varies by country though.

WW numbers are always good for the prestige factor as they sound well big but not all numbers are equal.

According to the book The Hollywood Economist by Edward Jay Epstein, studios take in about 40 percent of the revenue from overseas release.

The 15% is 'profit' after 'marketing costs, etc'... but then the 55% average share that Studios take from Domestic have not included marketing as well.. if you take into consideration marketing, then it's far lower...

So, in essence, if you don't take expenses, marketing, etc, then it'll break down like this:

Domestic - 50-60%
Overseas - about 40%

Considering that OS market is far bigger than domestic (at times even up to 80% of total sales), that's still a huge number...

Here's a good read on why the OS marketing is becoming even more important than Domestic...

When do they issue the latest OS #'s? It's Monday morning in Australia, so you would think we would have the latest BO from that region by now. MOS must be close to $600 million?

Kevin Hart is the real big winner this weekend , smaller budget
as for MOS , its getting close to the"bottom" Tobias predicted.
Somehow, I think it will easily pass and exceed $275.

Mysteryman; as for MOS said:
D'uh! Ya think!! Lol! Try Wednesday at the latest:-) btw he kept revising his numbers so they don't count for much. Next he'll predict it will "ONLY" make $300 million and when it does he'll proclaim that he was spot on!

Overseas numbers have not been updated but I expect that, after adding 271 mil (Dom.) to Overseas collections, the worldwide total should have crossed 600 mil mark already. :wow:

Usually a good rule of thumb for how much more it might make is around 2X of what it's last weekend made. So perhaps another $22M DOM for it which would put it at about $293M. Still a big question if it'll have the juice to cross $300M DOM. I'm betting no but I could easily be wrong.

Way to go MOS! Still haven't seen it for a third time, but I really want...nay...need to.

As of Jul. 7 2013:

Domestic: $271,206,000 (46.2%)
+ Foreign: $315,600,000 (53.8%)

= Worldwide: $586,806,000

Yeah, thought the $600m by Sunday predictions were a bit off.

I would really love dalonewolf's reasoning to think MoS is going to make $600mil+ in OS money.
