Only in the MOS threads can an announcement like this be so berated.
It's enough to scare off a boat load of members.

Can't say I'm surprised, it's been like this the the RT score came out.

Batman and Superman are like Star Trek and Star Wars.
There are some fans who prefer one to the other.
There are some who like both. But every fan I have ever met has a preference.
I like both but am a greater fan of the Man of Steel.
I can see how many who prefer Batman are in nirvana right now over this.

But those of us who, while also liking Batman, are bigger Superman fans are aware that no matter how you spin this, we are not getting the sequel to Man of Steel that we wanted.

I'm sure I'll get over it time. I'll be there on opening night, buy the soundtrack, etc.
I just hope this "World's Finest" movie make enough buck for WB to give us MOS 2.

And that`s why I'm not satisfied about it. Superman deserves his own solo trilogy. He doesn't have to share screentime with Batman to succeed.

I like both heroes with a big edge to Superman. I'm excited as hell for MOS2 with Batman. The relationship with Batman is an essential part of Superman that has never been seen before. They are the yin to each other's yang and the banter and chemistry between them has the potential to define each character in ways they are not able to do with them in separate films. Bring it!

The fact that WB has decided to go with a World's Finest movie isn't a bad reflection on MOS at all. This is simply business as usual for WB; and right now, their sole agenda is to surpass the competition: Marvel's shared universe. A MOS sequel will surely follow -- just not yet.

I feel like a little kid again... My dream team up movie finally happen... this sequel to MOS with batman is going to be awesome... I bet we get a lot of Clark and Bruce interaction alone with Luthor. Something be is about to go down... the damage that happen in Metropolis is going to bring Bruce into the picture with Luthor help building the city back... 2015 cannot come any closer... I hope this movie is release July or Christmas...

I believe this is MOS sequel... it just happen to have Batman apart of the movie. They mention that Zod death and metropolis's damage is going to be address in this movie...

From Synder:
It’s official that we are going to make another Superman movie. And you say, Zack, what is the movie about? But you don’t want me to tell you that. You want to go and see the movie. But I can say that maybe there’s a single element that will be in the film that I could… help you out with. I was thinking about how to do that. I pored through the DC Universe to look for a way to tell this thing. We’re writing the thing now, but I came across a thing I found that’ll help you understand it.

Snyder did say that this is effectively the sequel to Man of Steel, and a press release confirms Henry Cavill as Superman as well as the returns of Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane. No actor for Batman was suggested in any way.

Here’s the press release from WB:

NEXT DC SUPER HERO MOVIE IN PRE-PRODUCTION

BURBANK, CA, July 20, 2013 – On the heels of the worldwide success of “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyderis bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution,Warner Bros. The current hit, “Man of Steel,” has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcomingfilm brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date inSummer 2015.

Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of ‘Man of Steel’ is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”

Don't get caught up in "is this a MOS sequel" or not folks.

The most important thing to remember is the DCCU universe is marching forward.

I know ! I took a break off of here for a few weeks because it became so mopey and depressed. And everyone was just complain, complain, complain.

I agree. The important thing is the DCCU is marching onward. I'm the biggest Superman fan I know and I could care less if this is titled "World's Finest" or "Man of Steel 2".

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out same year. Marvel is miles ahead, DC needs to play serious catch-up. Who cares who gets top billing, just start putting out the films!!!

I think most are excited for a WF movie. A few people, including me, preferred to do another Superman solo film first, but this is still great news. I'll be following every second of production once this starts.

On a different note, Man of Steel has (domestically) essentially fallen below Iron Man's pace - the legs on Iron Man were great, another 35 million after this point (day 36)

I'm still positive for 300 by end of August.

Again, Iron Man did it 12 days after the 283 Mark (36 day point). End of August would mean about 40 days, that should hopefully be enough, it's theatre count will be pretty slim by them.

Anything on top of what it has now is fine. Still fairly good numbers for a reboot - I've wanted it to top TASM since TASM's final numbers, but Spiderman had a lot more going for it - the whole Superman is known worldwide argument isn't as relevant when it comes to live action film, and the factor of Spiderman's popularity explosion from 2002 onwards.

Let's see how things go in the next month.

Cheers!

MOS is not playing in my theater anymore so I can't help it at the box office.

It's not World Finest, it's MOS featuring Batman.
And now I think the Wayne satellite as well as the Luthor truck meant something in the movie. Doesn't seem like they pulled this out of thin air.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the Wayne satellite reference. They at least considered this pairing before MOS was released.

I am glad to learn Lois, Perry and Martha will be in the new film with the same actors. I just hope they keep Lois as a truly major part of the film, and that they do not do a Batman/Lois/Superman love triangle.

This is more interesting than projecting whether MOS will reach 300 mill.

I can see it now... damn... the trailer is going to blow me away...

I wonder if this announce boost BO sales for MoS

I wonder how much MoS box office tally so far played in the role to decide to bring in Batman for the next film?

I wonder if MoS really was headed for a billion would they would have pulled the lever on that decision? It seems like WB has really took the "go big or go home" approach now but I really wonder if MoS was headed for 1 billlion vs $650-700m if they would have gone through with this announcement vs just a straight ahead sequel?

It's a safe bet they would have. As I've said elsewhere, a Batman/Superman film will always make more than a Superman film, sequel or no.

If WB is going to actually have a presence in the face of what Disney is putting out in 2015 and they can't use JLA, this is their best play. Unless Snyder can release a superman film for 2014 there is no way WB isn't sending out their team up that summer.

There is a good chance that Worlds Finest outdoes Ep7 and Avengers2 that summer.
No chance MOS 2 does.

TDK had so many things going for it with Heath Ledger's passing, and the fact he was in it in its own right, his depiction prior to his death, the buzz for Batman w/ all the dvd sales, etc, it was the "classic" Batman confrontation.

Man of Steel did have a great marketing campaign and major hype which got kiboshed by critics and the sheep that eat up what they say. Granted, MOS took many risks that left a lot of people either rightly or wrongly uneasy, which may have affected word of mouth.

What it's made as the "start" of a trilogy is impressive -- and sadly, despite all of the various toys and merchandise, the movie isn't exactly "child" friendly, so that eats a large chunk of your ticket sales ... Yes TDK had insane box office and was a great film, but a lot of external factors contributed to its success - I wonder always if it would have done as well but for Heath's passing.

This all being said, it is difficult to say whether or not this was always the plan or a "plan b(atman)" :yay: Either way, 2 years away is pretty lofty considering they took three to pus houtTDK.

Personally, I feel as though they had enough unresolved issues and numerous intriguing story arcs to explore that could have been exceptional without Batman, but what's done is done, let's start the countdown.

This is supposed to be a downright CELBRATION of EPIC PROPORTIONS. Did you hear the excitement in Snyder's voice with his announcement and the crowd RAWR?! This is a fanboy's wet-dream. Only the internet would get "mad" and turn things into flaming wars in what is supposed to be a TEAMMUP of legends........and more importantly, we'll have Superman on the big-screen for years and years to come!

LETS DO THIS.

It will be interesting to see. While the drop this week is a bit sad, I don't remember any summer with such a crowded market.

The run to 300 mil is getting very difficult at this rate. However, with many of the big movies under performing it is possible or it to hold the mid six figures for a few weeks in a row. So, it is still possible.
