!Superman! and Superchan, you're both MY hero. Thank you, but don't expect to turn the tide of the doom parade.

wwz cost 190mill mos cost 225mill so how is it far more expensive?

Marketing cost-wise MoS is a whole lot more expensive. More expensive than any movie this year hands down. Some said the promotional paid off most of the marketing cost. Or not, to which WB only know.

i dont care what the negative people say anymore. We are getting a sequel :D that`s all i wanted after i saw the movie.

I also could care less about what fanboys (who expect billions and have no concept of what box office numbers mean) say or think. It's the same old story with SHH boards (and most other boards for that matter).

Says who? There are no official report regarding MOS's marketing costs. There are however multiple official reports regarding the cross promotional deals that WB has made, which paid for alot of the marketing for the film.
WB marketed the film beautifully and INTELLIGENTLY and not only by throwing money at it. MOS's marketing costs don't exceed WWZ's, LR, IM3, fast 6 or any of the other big summer blockbusters and if any1 says so then I would like to hear their source.

A truncated sequel... where Batman will no doubt get top billing and steal the spotlight from Superman.

Just kidding. Kinda. :woot:

I'd say we're getting another superman movie rather than a proper sequel, but to be honest if it's well made then I'm all for it.

Man of Steel will settle in 4th place for the year domestic, yes. Catching Fire will out-gross it. Hell, that will win the year.

I expect HG:CF to drop well below $400m.

Catching Fire and Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug will outearn it worldwide too.

Dark World will probably pass it OS & WW, and come close (or even pass it) in the US.

yeah Thor will get a good bump from the avengers and will most certainly be one of the year's biggest hits

what did the Studio hope? Did they ever say what numbers they were expecting for a REBOOT?

if it was 1 Billion i`m happy it didnt make that much! you know why? because alot of studios kind of expect their movies to make 1 Billion and if it doesnt its a failure!?... lol

yes it`s superman, but it came after Superman returns, many think superman is lame because he is so strong. Nobody can relate to him. There are many reasons people dont like him.

Avengers made that much money because it combined fans of 3 movies ! ironman, Captain America and Thor ! all 3 of them didnt make a Billion as a stand alone movie but superman has to do it right away? lol

Man of Steel had tough competition after the release. So many movies came out people wanted to see. 2 great animation movies, WWZ was a surprise. If it wasnt for that MOS would have passed the 300 Million domestic mark! It took the audience from MOS.

I thought STID n MOS are great movies this year n should have made much much more than they have done.
But well... they didn't.

Trying to drag another buddy to watch MOS, but only 1 screen left in the entire CITY... damnit!!!

Also, he wasn't going to watch it because all his friends told him it's bad... (more damnit).

I only managed to convinced him saying that it's made by the same guys who made TDK, which he loved, so he's gonna try to watch it,... but alas, not easy to find a place showing it now... the one cinema is far away from his home...

I thought they were great too! :highfive:

STID was my favorite, until MOS came out.. :woot:

Pass Catching Fire? No way. That film is a beast all its own. It will eat Dark World alive.

Hey now have faith.
*but yes, bat the badass will prob steal the spotlight*

Considering how "badass" he was in his own films, I doubt it, then again this might be a different take on the character.
Reminds me of BTAS before and after Timm shifted him over to uber scene stealing bats. I'm hoping for the same.

My sentiments exactly.

I'm trying to get a couple of friends to see it, but only two showings in my town. My friends became more interested after the Batman/Superman announcement.

IDK, for now I think STID was better but I'll have to rewatch both.

STID was a great film and deserved MUCH better box office returns than what it got (so does pacific rim for that matter) but oh well. As for MOS, I am still surprised at how well the film did (and doing), judging from SR's performance and the general performances of reboots (even the great ones) I didn't think MOS had a chance in hell of breaking 600 mill but I am pleasantly surprised!

STID underperformed in the Box Office for sure. It was such a great movie... I think most people are not fans of Star Trek to begin with. Also, pure science fiction don't appeal to the GA as much.

MOS had the name recognition. Plus, it's a comic book movie, so definitely better fan base among the general movie audience... But MOS's issues (which to me isn't a big problem but to many was), let it down and didn't get the traction it needed to go even further.

My city, of a million, has three theatres still showing it - all gigantic cineplexs. I went to a 7:05 showing of it last night (granted Tuesday - 8 dollar movies), and the theatre was practically sold out. I think there is definitely still some interest there, and that MOS got a bit lost in the onslaught of summer films. A lot of it's drop in earnings can arguably be said to be attributable to the fact it's # of screens is down to 25%. To me, anything on top of what it has now will be great, given the time delay, I don't expect Japan to contribute that much to its earnings, but I guess we won't know. $650-$670 mil is likely the end to a nice first run for the film.

Catching Fire looks intense. The first movie made a lot of people start to pick up the books. This movie will be a force in the BO.

I honestly don't understand why they are releasing Thor in the same month as CF.

While Cap gets the deadest month. :funny:
