The way any released media on catching fire causes twitter to react. I think that film might give IM3's opening a run. Harry potter's biggest opening for sure. I mean that last HG's opening alone was pretty huge.

That time of month and the way sequels go, I see some serious line ups, especially from the tween like fans.

Sigh, here is a quote by David Goyer during comic con: "We're already in pre-production," he revealed… despite the project only being confirmed shortly before the release of 'Man of Steel'.

Honestly I will say this one more time WB wouldn't have hired the same team that did MOS if they weren't satisfied with the film's performance. Nuff said!
The studio was clear that if MOS is successful then it would serve as a launching pad for the DC universe, which is happening.
To go up against Avengers, star wars and lets not forget bond and finding nemo sequel in what is now recognized as one of the biggest and potentially most lucrative box office year (2015) in years WB needs their top guns. Despite its devisive nature, MOS's sequel has potential to do big box office numbers but I don't think anyone would fool themselves into thinking that it would stand a chance against avengers 2 or starwars, its a fact and there is no shame on superman or MOS to admit as much.
Lastly people are looking at this like "oh WB needs batman to save superman!" which is funny since batman's acclaimed reboot (BB) didn't get any where near the numbers that superman's reboot has. Make no mistake WB needs superman to rev up interest in their potential Batman reboot, which will have a serious mountain to climb (it will take audiences a long time to get over Nolan and his magic touch) and by attaching batman to a superman sequel it would feel much less forced.
agreed.
I dont know. I think they would have made it anyway. they are he11 bent on making a JL film and desperatly want to introduce the new Batman before then.
A solo batman film may be too risky, so I figure they decided long ago to put him in MoS 2 ''IF' MoS was a success, and it was/is..
I normally dont quote myself, but.....

MOS had the name recognition. Plus, it's a comic book movie, so definitely better fan base among the general movie audience... But MOS's issues (which to me isn't a big problem but to many was), let it down and didn't get the traction it needed to go even further.
Totally agree, the film's poor pacing (damn you snyder) and that mindless 3rd act (damn you goyer) really took the air out of an otherwise very solid film.
I wish WB would've hired an additional writer to help snyder and goyer polish their story ideas because goyer has the ideas and snyder has the vision but neither of these guys are good story tellers so they most certainly need a master story teller to guide them through the rough waters (just like goyer was guided by the nolan brothers)

I really don't know about catching fire, it will do well for sure but the first film didn't exactly, well.....set the world on fire! quite mixed response.
As for OS, it will be a tough battle, but I think thor will take it!

Overseas gross for Catching Fire will explode thanks to popularity of Hunger Games and the mega star of Jennifer Lawrence. $1B gross would not surprise me.

not as crowed as may, but still.
July has been pretty silly imo.

With all this talk of Superman needing batman to be successful(more I mean) rather to make a big(er) splash, there is one thing that never quite get's addressed. This isn't TDK bats.
People seem to forget that it's a reboot, and as big as batman is, reboots face a particular set of problems, especially recent ones(see ASM). Being included in the now popular MOS universe will do wonders for the new batman franchise.

It would be like if I wanted to start off a fantastic four reboot by putting it in TASM2 (not ASM1). Using the sure to be huge momentum ASM2 has going for it.

When Marvel has to reboot Ironman, I'm curious if they will do it in a stand alone. WB clearly isn't.

I have this gut feeling we won't see a new actor as Iron Man for a long, long time. Once Downey hangs it up I just can't imagine they'd have the balls to try and sell the audience on anyone else. At least not until a generation or so has passed.

Downey has achieved what no other actor has since Reeves. He's become synonymous with the character, probably even more so since Downey was more than likely everyone's first and only introduction to the Iron Man. Downey IS Tony Stark.

Not doing too shabby with the finances either.

Robert Downey Jr. is a hit machine. He’s starred in six movies that have each grossed over $500 million at the box office worldwide. Two of those films, The Avengers and Iron Man 3, each earned over $1 billion. Every studio in town would love to cast him, and now they’ll pay big buck for the privilege. Downey tops our list of Hollywood’s Highest-Paid Actors with an estimated $75 million in earnings between June 2012 and June 2013.

At the same time, that studio would technically have to be brain dead to sleep on IM money for as long as you are suggesting. It won't happen, marvel loves that actor but they are also very trigger happy when it comes to recasting. It's all up in the air imo.

I mean how horrible would Clooney be in the role? That's how these studios think sometimes.

Understandable, but is Iron Man really the draw or is it Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man that's the draw? Do you think the character can endure on it's own? Personally I have my doubts but I guess time will tell.

Its still cheesy but at least its better then Twilight...Those I never understood the popularity. Wow

I am pretty sure it's Downey...

Dress another guy in the suit, and it'll just be a generic metal guy that flies...

The GA loves Downey's jokes.... In fact, IM3 has become more of an Action Comedy rather than a Comic Book Movie...

Same as Fast 6, also transformed into an Action Comedy...

Both tried to appeal to the general masses, and it worked...

That's what will happen if they don't replace the actor and let Jarvis be the star of the film. A new actor might be generic as well. However a strong and charismatic actor...wouldn't be generic no.

Sometimes, even when you find the best, most charismatic actor, they might still not fit a particular role...

Too many movies/tv shows have lost their luster as soon as studio execs replaces one or two of the actors...

I don't see them casting their die anytime soon with Downey... you could evaporate a billion dollar movie... (so what if they had to pay downey 100M of that??).. they still make tons of money...

Looks like no 300 Million or 700 Million.

MOS is pretty much dead box office wise.

Marketing cost-wise MoS is a whole lot more expensive. More expensive than any movie this year hands down. Some said the promotional paid off most of the marketing cost. Or not, to which WB only know.
the guy I was responding too made it seem like wwz cost way more than mos

I only care about BO as long as it makes enough for a sequel...this one is getting a sequel/follow-up/cash-grab/mistake/genius in Batman/Superman

no movie has had a 400mill budget please you sound like a dope!

brad pitt's zombie action flick has been mired by negative publicity concerning rewrites, re-shoots and an inexperienced creative team that has caused the film's budget to increase from $170million to a reported $400million.
