I don't agree with you. It's a Sequel and he was featured in the Avengers. To the GA it will come off as the Third movie in a series. Disney's Marketing team will have a field day that with that. To me i think it could cross the billion Mark but might max out at around $900mm.

Domestically Thor: TDW is going to perform similarly to MOS, but worldwide is where it's going to really shine.

That would make my year.

I'm going to be cautious right now and expect around 700 million, but I do think the film has potential to do alot better.

I feel totally the opposite... each time I see the movie... new and good feelings I have... the writing and the direct was there... and WF way is looking good excellent movie... and I followed 2 years production also... I see you are a big Donner fan.. If you didn't let that movie go.. you can't enjoy this movie... the past is past... MOS IS the GREAT PRESENT

I was hoping for the torch to be passed. Snyder and Goyer fumbled the torch handoff. Look at the numbers and tell me this movie has/had good WOM. Nope.

If the screenplay was even average, there is no reason why this movie shouldn't have banked close to 400 million domestic. Come on, this is Superman, NOT Thor. Audiences were mostly like me, meh....and moved on quickly.

1. it's a reboot, meaning it's the introduction of a new character to a lot of people. There is no reboot which has ever reached $400M domestic

2. You do realize $400M is VERY hard to reach? Only 17 films have reached it.

3. The movie was placed in a poor slot for subsequent weeks. It had big competition from Monsters U., (surprisingly) World War Z and Despicable Me 2.

From predicting an opening weekend that would beat The Avengers to saying the film should have reached $400M no problemo, you really need to stop over-estimating things.

I based my 200 million dollar opening on the Superman name and the trailers. Duh...LOL! <---egg on face

I felt MOS was too depressing. I felt no emotion for any of the characters. Maybe it was because they seemed to rush everything too quickly, so they would be able to get what they wanted in.
Regardless, it wasn't a movie the GA wanted to see more than once which hindered even a 300 million dollar domestic showing. JMHO.

I actually enjoyed Thor a lot more, and I get the feeling that Thor2 will be good too. I trust a Game of Thrones director more than I trust Snyder. I'm really baffled that WB could see this drops and think nothing needs to be done or changed except adding Batman, which frankly can be a disaster if not done properly. And I do not trust Goyer and Snyder to do it properly. At all.

I wasn't expect a billion from a reboot... a great movie has to do 1 billion to be it? don't think so... many 1 billion + movies are bull.....

well.. man I guess you need to laugh all the time like in Avengers, or Superman The Movie to appreciate a movie? well then that's not your movie... The character development and the cast were great.. I felt so connected with Pa´ Kent, Jor-el, Lara and of course with SUPERMAN...

Umm... a new property like Green Lantern or Iron Man has a harder job to show than a reboot. At least for a reboot people know what the subject material is, so there is that guaranteed money. Secondly, do most people really perceive the film as a reboot? I believe people would think "Hey, it's another yadayada film" with an added origin story. Hence why MOS and TASM are doing fine. It's not like famous new property like Hunger Games or Harry Potter, but they're respectable.

I talked to someone before MOS came out who was confused about its origin story because "...Didn't they already reboot Superman a few years ago with an origin?"

I know there are those that are still entranced by the Donner movies, I'm one of them, but my friends that I'd classify as the average movie goer didn't want to see MOS because of the Reeve films and Superman Returns. They don't relate to them or take them seriously.

Though Superman is a well known character, he's not necessarily a popular one outside of the comic fans. To many he feels dated. I just hope I can get friends to give MOS a chance and, since the Batman/Superman announcement, they're starting to warm up the idea.

I agree that MOS 3rd act dragged out a bit. The fight between Zod and Supes was better than BB or TASM. I'd but the TASM and BB 3rd acts on par.

The drops aren't opinions and neither is the fact that movies that hold well week after week have good WOM. Not denying it wasn't successful overall but it really should have done better given its huge opening weekend. The first weekend drop was not that surprising as huge openings tend to have big drops but after that the drops usually level off. Mos dropped almost 50% it's third week and its only average drop the next weekend was because of July 4. And it has crashed ever since. I really don't see how that can be seen as having been beloved or even well liked by the audience no matter how you spin it. And I can admit when a movie I hate has good WOM. Avatar was completely mediocre IMO but I cannot deny that most people loved it enough to recommend and see it over and over again.

Maybe not people you know... but you don't make 1.2 Billion Dollars and becomes the 4th or 5th highest grossing movie of all time if the GA didn't just loved it... No movie could...

Aside from what 'your friends like' or 'what my friends like', I generally just look at the numbers.. and numbers/stats don't lie.. We all have our own 'prejudices'.. maybe if you don't like it, you tend to hear others who don't like it, and if you liked it, you only tend to hear those that liked it.. We're all humans, and that's what happens... that's why science does not rely on 'personal testimonials'... it relies on cold hard facts.. and the fact is, people liked IM3 and liked it a LOT..

And I am sure Avengers have something to do with it but not most of it.. I do believe it stood on it's own pretty well..

That's not true. It was liked.

I actually really liked IM3, so I would have preferred it if others that I knew also felt that way.
