I hate when people try to underate The Avengers success, The Avengers was basically unknown before the MCU. So for Marvel to take a virtually unknown franchise and turn it into a multi-billion dollar franchise is commendable.

Clearly Batman has had more tv shows and movies than I can wave a stick at before TDK was released. So in my eyes The Avengers making over a billion too far more effort and was a far bigger feat tha an already insanely popular character doing it.
and the point you are making?
your still down playing batman I never took anything form the avengers
all I was saying was batman did it 1st and 3rd by him self
but only fell behind 6 superheroes by 400+mil until iron man 3 which superman/batman will leave both of them in the dust
I have a felling the 2nd avengers movie wont be as good as the 1st and will not make as much money
especially with all theses rumours about hawkeye and black widow having key roles in this one and the other which was thor will not be used as much
and the villian is wack

How were the Avengers considered unknown before 2012? That's like saying people don't know anything about the Justice League.

I didn't know about the Avengers until I started to join forums and read comics.

My only prior exposure to Iron Man and Captain America was on Spider-Man

I'm reading Wolverine is looking at a 67ish% drop and it's still going to land at number two in it's second week.

Yet every few days we get to hear about MOS' second week.
sounds about right.

The latest numbers show The Wolverine is now looking at a 69% drop. Are people going crucify that film and say how awful WOM is like they did with MOS? Curious. Or will it be spun somehow for TW and its only MOS that had the awful WOM.

I think he's saying before the MCU i.e before IM 1.

Marvel Studios did an amazing job of laying the ground work for the avengers, that they almost seemed like household figures by the time 2012 came around.

That is where DC is lacking. Which is why I don't think they'll ever be able to pull off a JL movie the way we see it in our heads.

And around 287M DOM... Don't think it's reaching 300 anymore.

I think part of the reason WB is so interested in making a Green Arrow, Flash or Wonder Woman tv's show on CW is to build up the profile of those characters and the wider DCU for when they one day make a JL movie.

he really don't know what he is talking about tge avengers are just as well known as the justice league I really think hes trying to take Batman's reign of best grossing cbm
how does he figga know one knew of the avengers and it had 4 movies to build it up and was talked about for 4 years before it hit theathers

and many forget the avengers had a 300 mil movies budget and a nearly 250 mil promotion cost so it really took them 500 mil for one movie
that's is why the movie had to make a billion to break even
any movie that has a 250 mil advertisement buget have no.choice but to make a billion
like avatar it took so much money to make that movie the studio refuse to have its budget listed
I give props to any movie that earns it
but give even bigger props to a movie that earns it without all the money

For some reason dalonewolf's post always make my day. Thanks man haha.

it would work if wb/dc stop being scared to do so don't get me wrong I love the announcement of superman/batman but I was looking for more to be announce and they didnt announce anything for 2014 or 2016 I know everybody is saying what could they make in the next year
how's about knight wing to start up the young justice universe and connect them down the line wb/dc could release the big name movies with big budget every other year and put minor heros in between.
knight wing, cybrog ,captain atom ,the atom aqua lad and ect all those movies can make it on a 75 mil -100 mil budget they really dony have to be all that sussessful but it will pay off for a proper JL movie

your welcome I try and keep fair on comparison cuz people are so bias
just becuse tdk or dkr didnt make 1.5
doesn't mean it dont have avengers sussess dk and tkr just needs to make 500mil to.break even and made a billion with no help of a team and no cgi and a somewhat boring story
made batman more interesting than any other hero out there

Depending on the contempt the press/industry has for a picture, it can go either way it seems. TW is sort of like a darling at this point. "Mangold got Wolverine right, in a contemplative cbm."

That's just the way it goes. Sucks that MOS didn't have this release date. Would have done so much better. Would have been at number one in it's second week as well.

TW would have no doubt been shredded in MOS' spot.

It's also pretty impressive how their solo movies are doing considering they were b-list superheroes before the MCU.
thats what happen when a studio is not afraid of taking chances on the right things instead of stuff like pacific rim I love the movie but I knew it was gonna bomb if wb/dc followed mos release with another dc character or wait until November or October
the dcu would have a jump start and they will not.be losing money rite now
so whatever profit wb got for mos will get eating by pr failure
form what im hearing wb are about 150mil away form breaking even
so think about it
why not take the chance rite away at your billion dollar movie
then a movie that never was gonna make 500 mil ww
I would have been just fine with a 120-150 mil flash or wonder woman or even aqua man who all 3 of those would have been a guaranteed 450-500 mil following mos success
I respect marvel for having. the balls
to jump into things as they did
if wb would make better decisions on the dcu they wouldn't be in need of a strong franchise
the dcu could have been thier backbones all along

so true if mos had tw spot it would have ended closer to the billion I predicted
I just was judging its release date wrong
and really was hoping for it but
there's aways my mos2 superman/batman prediction of
ow 600 mil ww 300 dom 300 foreign
and 2.bil total:woot:

Couple of things to consider.

1) Its going to drop around 61-63%.
2) TW should be more frontloaded than MoS cause its a sequel.
3) X-Men films have always had low multipliers ever since the first one.

How come???
I mean there isn't any new movies coming out... at least no new block buster movies.
I thought Marvel did another good job in picking the release day for their movie... so that it enjoys 2 weeks continuously.

Btw, I just watched WWZ.
Damn I thought it was a poor movie. Don't understand why people said it was great.
Poor taste they have I guess. :D

I find it stupid that all the studios cramp their movies into the June and July slot, making stiff competition and killing each others... then comes August... there isn't much new movies up per weeks... those movies could have stayed longer in the cinemas. ..

I think many forgot because that's not true.

http://images.businessweek.com/slideshows/2012-05-04/the-avengers-supporting-cast-business

They've put an estimated $100 million in promotions behind the $220 million film, in addition to Disney's own estimated $150 million marketing budget.

And the additionnal $100 millions were mainly supported by brand partners in joint marketing campaigns such as Acura, Dr. Pepper, Visa, Wyndham hotels, Harley-Davidson, Land O'Frost lunchmeats, Farmers Insurance, Hershey, Symantec, Oracle, Colantotte and Red Baron pizza.

So no, nowhere near 500 millions to make and promote the movie.

so hows does a movie that cost 300mil to make
have to make a billion to break even
explain please???????
cause imo if it takes 300 mil to make
650-725 will make the movie break even or even 800mil
and even Disney said they needed to makea billion to break even

So is MOS out of theatres? I don't see it listed on Box office Mojo so I'm assuming WB yanked it. That's kind of curious because STID is still in theatres and made almost $500,000 dollars over the weekend which seems pretty solid.

It's not out of theaters. Just at the end of its run where we won't get numbers until the actuals tomorrow afternoon.

I still show it in theaters but its in very few. WB might pull it soon and release it again near Labor Day
