Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I am afraid that you're the one whose heard wrong, MOS made 3.5 mill in Japan and for reference IM3 did 4.3 mill opening so all in all a solid number for such a late release date.

Here is the report from boxoffice.com:
3.5 isnt bad , when you consider that The Wind Rises is Miyazakis last film.
He is a legend over there .
And a legend to cinema in general of course.
But on his home turf, he is unbeatable.

Looks like the MoS rerelease went highly unnoticed and there was no real bump in the box office. The STiD/WWZ double feature provide big bumps that MoS did not receive at all. Not completely surprising now that the screen totals are available (MoS was only on 284 screens even with the re-release. Seems really low.

Very disappointing.

I agree, I wouldn't really consider it a true re-release, but anything the movie makes now is gravy

It wasn't re-expanded like WWZ/STID was this Labor Day Weekend. It went to dollar theaters a few weeks ago but nothing this weekend.

I said on the previous page that WWZ/MU had a big bump in theater count and speculated that MOS's was t as expansive. Looks like that was the case, but considering it was only on 284 screens it did pretty good IMO. It'll cross $291 million in a week or so and that is without a real Re-release. Cross your fingers, maybe it will still get one.

Deadline is reporting that This Is The End is getting a rerelease in order to make it to a 100 million .

At first I was really pissed that WB didn't take the opportunity to do a re-release over labor day weekend
but on the bright side it could mean that Man Of Steel has earned what the company wanted and they wont try and squeeze more money out of it
The dvd/bluray/digitaldownload sales should make WB even more money plus that product placement superman has finally made the studio nearly a billion dollars LOL :supes::supes::supes::supes::woot:

Going by how WWZ/MU did at the weekend, with a full week of 2D re-release + IMAX and IMAX3D on about 1800 screens, MOS could potentially make $2 million more.

With product placement deals, merchandising, B.O. Upcoming DVD/BLURAY sales, broadcast rights etc WB is making plenty. Would they like more? Certainly but with what MOS will eventually generate in profits they have to be ecstatic.

Does anyone know if MOS is in the expanded release at Regal theaters all week?

I dont think so not with just 284 screens and 5 days ago it had 304 so it lost screens that can't possibly be a release of any kind

But the screens Regal added were 3D and regular in higher quality theaters. So even though the screen count is down, some of the remaining screens will charge more than the average dollar theater. If MOS makes $45-55,000 for Tuesday that will bolster my assertion. If its below $30,000 then that'll tell me it was likely pulled from the better Regal screens. I'd like to see WB do a MOS/TDKR double feature in IMAX.

As much as I want that to happen its just not gonna
like I said before WB must feel as if MOS has made enough money
I only say that because the labor day weekend opportunity had been missed on purpose
If the studio had any intention to try and make more money out of something they certainly will not missed an opportunity like that
im seeing wwz had a 1.6 mil weekend with 1,247 screens
if wb did that with MAN OF STEEL it could have pulled in 1.9-2.2 mil and got much closer to 300mil dom by the end of its run
hell if they did a 1,500 screen release for mos for 2 weeks it most likey would have gotten over 300 dom
I know many may think not but its only 9.3 mill away a limited release of 2weeks with 1,500 screens could have gotten it there

Even with 2 weeks re- release I don't think it could make $9 million. Maybe it could get near $295 million. However unless WB see fit to re-release its a moot point.

I only said because wwz had a 1.6 mil weekend MOS would have definitely made more than that imo
I think MOS makes 2.2 with the 1,247 screens weekend one
and a 3 mil week one
1.1-1.2 second weekend and a 1.mil week 2
putting it around 297,700,000
after that it would have crawled the other 1.3mil
im saying
IMO
missed opportunity again WB first the release date and now this
I think they should hire better marketing management lol

Actually it would to crawl to an additional $2.3 million to cross the $300 million mark, not $1.3 million. That last million is a b i o t c h lol. Just checked and MOS made under $20,000 Tuesday. I think barring a miraculous re-release by WB it's run is over the end of this week or the next:-(

Like I said WB must be satisfied why else they wouldn't they do re-release on labor day if they wasn't ??

19,595 with 284 screens
im glad it got that

it's a bit of a shame that MOS won't make it to $300m.

but, any way you look at it, $290m is a pretty **** good number. especially for an origin film, and for a character who's supposedly "lost his coolness."

now, if the Superman/Batman movie, with Ben Affleck as Batman, does LESS than MOS......

then......then......we can all start freaking out!!

It'll probably finish it's run with $291 million which is as you said still **** good for an origin film. I'm kind of bummed that they didn't at least see fit to put it back in IMAX for a week as I never got to see it in that format. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but if it gets enough Academy Award technical nominations, score, costume, sound etc that WB might see fit to put it in IMAX theaters sometime in January. I'll wish in one hand, and crap in the other and see which fills up first lol!
