"The official three-day figure of $113.1 million ranks fourth all-time among non-sequels behind The Hunger Games, Alice(116) in Wonderland and Spider-Man(114); if Thursday is added back in, though, it moves up to second behind Hunger Games. "

I hope you are happy walmart

They sort of did, I guess. My money and the group of people I took to see on Thursday don't get counted in the OW numbers, which is kind of odd.

If it does $50 million or above, $300 million is a lock.
So long as there are no other big drops, agreed. June is very hard to predict because so many new films come out at the end of June/beginning of July.

Despicable Me is going to take out any legs MOS might have left.

Even though I ultimately didn't like the film, I did say it would gross over 200 million this weekend. How far off will I be?

You were claiming it will break The Avengers' opening weekend record, you didn't say worldwide.

The total will be around $220 million after next weekend. So can it get $80 million more after? Definitely, WOM is good even if it'll have a lot of competition coming up.

Congratulations Supes fans!

Looks like you guys got another succesful Franchise!

I have to wait until next week to see it...can't wait to see Faora in action!

Kneel!!

Kneel before Faora!!!

Pardon my ignorance, but why is Walmart numbers not counted?

It's counted as a collective 4-days (or rather 3.5 days) but for the 3-day weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun) it is not counted since the 7pm Walmart shows are considered a Thursday gross.

Any guesses on the weekdays? Summer has officially begun.....30/40/50 million during Mon-Thurs?

It's a bit like when a big corporation buys a big block of seats at a sporting event and those seats go empty, and then you hear the sports announcer talking about a "sell out".

Wal-Mart bought 12M worth of tickets to private shows and sold back some of them, the rest were given free to employees.

There's nothing wrong with what they did and from a business perspective it was a brilliant decision, it just makes predicting results very difficult.

Kinda painful cause it's even a traditional 4 days either.

So anyone still on the June is a death sentence train of thought?

I guess it could be argued that it would have had a better time in July...
The ending of this film(among other things) will get people talking, and with that more people will flock.
ZODDD!

It's hard to even argue with a person who is trying to spin this as a bad opening weekend.

The movie could drop off 70% next weekend for all I know and this is still an impressive weekend.

yeah. it doesnt really matter what they say now, it just comes off as sour grapes.

I wasn't on that bandwagon of people who think that June is boxoffice poison because if the movie is good or well liked it will buck the trend no matter what month it's released. As far July is concerned yup I do think it's a much better release date as an indendence day movie, it has that tone of patriotism all throughout. Though I didn't like how Metropolis was in shambles right after the attempted terraforming and fight with Zod, I don't know how they will portray that as being "rebuilt" by the time the sequel comes lol.

The movie is doing solid so far and that's all that matters.

Well to be fair if it does drop 70% next weekend that is not a good thing, in fact it would be atrocious. But it won't.

Opening less than SR is a bad opening weekend.
Anything else is gravy.
This ?
This is gravy with cheese fries!

Boxoffice for similar films during their first week after debut.

Mon-Thurs

Brave 31.2 (June)
Toy Story 3 57.1 (June)
Amazing Spiderman 28.75 million (July)
DKR 63.9 (July)
Spiderman 3 30.8 (July)
Spiderman 2 58.7 (July)
Transformers:DOTM 51.2 (July)

35-40 million might seem safer than those huge #'s reserved for sequels.

If you extrapolate from the drops of GL then you get around $40 million but I believe it would hold a bit better for obvious reasons so around $45 million.

SUNDAY 5:30 PM, 11TH UPDATE: Sunday matinees are running +18% of Saturdays which is highly unusual. But apparently Father’s Day and Man Of Steel “make a great combo” a Warner Bros exec says.
