easy...because they're trying to differentiate this movie from Singer's. logic dictates the best way to do that is to provide a new face for the lead role...which is, of course, Superman. now they might be able to get away with dressing him up differently and giving both Superman and Clark a different look, but that's risky...and harder to do than simply finding a new actor. also, i'll agree that he did a "good" job, but that's really an OPINION and not a FACT.
i just can't see the Nolans casting him. i can always be wrong, but if Jonny boy gets the job and he's anything like Chris...then he'll want high caliber thespians well versed in the art of performance. unfortunately, even though Routh looks more like Superman than ever (and arguably than anyone in contention right now) his acting is pretty bland and dull. imo, SR was probably his best performance to date and that's really not saying much. as i agreed...he did a good job, but he didn't do a GREAT job.
that being said, if he gets the job a part of me will be revealed that we have an actor who definitely looks the part, but the other half will be worried that he'll deliver another less-than-stellar performance.
I don't expect him to be casted, but I surely feel he deserves consideration. I don't think you need to recast the role to get away from the SR.
Also, I think it's a fact he was widely liked in the role. There's always going to be people who don't like the actor in the main role. But he had far more people who liked him than not.
Now whether people think he did a good job or great job is a lot more split.
