Marvel Solicitations For June 2008

Bendis writes more like a businessman, and less like a...writer.

Don't pass out, but I'm about to compliment him.

His IDEAS are good. He's got some very fresh takes on old ideas.

However, his follow through SUCKS. The dialogue, pacing, storylines and fight scenes are HORRIBLE.

He would make a better editor or co-writer.

Isn't that the general consensus? I have no problem praising the guy for his cool ideas. It's just the execution that generally sucks, although not all the time.

Right, but they're the stupid masses. We're the vocal minority, dude. I was referring to the general consensus on these boards.

If we're lumping the new Avengers status quo into his super-awesome ideas, I heartily disagree on that point. I think the Avengers formula was just fine before. Bigger profile characters might've been good, but there was no need to disassemble them, kill off half the roster, and make the Scarlet Witch crazy in the process. They're the ****ing Avengers. Big-name characters should probably want to join them, given their prestige within the Marvel universe.

Secret Invasion, in theory, sounds cool. The idea of the Illuminati isn't a bad one. His reasoning for including Spider-Man in New Avengers was good, even if his one for Wolverine was not. His ideas aren't all bad.

When they are, they're pretty colossally bad, though. Plus, Spider-Man was already in the Avengers. Can that really be counted as Bendis' idea? Cap's speech to Peter was nice, but it turned out to be just lip-service in practice, since Spider-Man still acts like a complete ****** and doesn't live up to Cap's faith in him at all in NA. Although I guess that'd fall more into the execution category.

Huh? Bendis put Spider-Man in the Avengers. How was he already an Avenger?

He's been a reservist for forever, he gets called in whenever the Avengers gather up all their members, and he's participated in a few Avengers missions. He wasn't a hugely important member or anything, but he had an Avengers identicard. That's why I found all the *****ing over Spider-Man being in the New Avengers pretty silly. He's already an Avenger.

Well, if you're going to get that technical, pretty much everyone in the MU is an Avenger. :whatever:

Shyeah, totally. Just like everyone in the DCU is a Justice Leaguer. :)

But they did have a couple issues where Spider-Man specifically joins the Avengers as a reservist back in the '80s, I think. He's as much a member as D-Man. :oldrazz:

Okay, Mr. Technical. It was Bendis' good idea to pull Peter off the bench. :o

Wouldn't know, I didn't read that ****. Those were the character-specific issues, right? I don't really give a crap about most of the characters on the New Avengers, so I doubt I would've liked them anyway.

Yeah, they were the done-in-ones. There was a Cap and Falcon issue, an Iron Man one, Luke, the Sentry and I think the last one was Jessica Drew, which, for as much as Bendis has ruined her character, he managed to squeeze out a pretty decent story out her triple agent status.

That's kind of why I hope Bendis gets the EIC chair if/when Quesada leaves.

Thats Jeph Loeb's job anyway.

I would've said the same thing before Loeb started getting more heavily into TV. I think he'll stick to executive producing and cashing those paychecks that make make Quesada's look like he works at McDonalds.

Loeb has always been in Hollywood though, he wrote Commando.
