Capcom Marvel vs. Capcom 3

As of right now, Activision has the rights to Spider-Man locked up. Problem is, we don't know just how tight that lock up is.

But this is Bobby Kotick we are talking about. Whether or not it includes him in fighting games, the man has become crazy when it comes to holding onto certain things.

He may honestly fight to make sure SM does not appear in a competing companies games, and if he really decides to raise a stink about it, I'm pretty sure Disney will just let it go, which would mean no SM in MvC3.

We'll see though, there is quite a large gap till release.

I doubt that has anything to do with it honestly. Activision also has rights to the X-Men and Wolverine yet he's showing up in MvC3. Maybe it was a Marvel decision not to promo Spidey at all? I mean its understandable why they are pushing Iron Man at this point. It is odd to see Spideys absence but ill be shocked if he doesnt show up in the full game.

I'm very excited about MvC3, and it looks like it's one of those rare cases where fans demands really did make a difference. Not happy about the absence of Spider-man in the promo, though.

He'll be there. It would be ludicrous not to have him. Marvel wouldn't have Capcom make a fighting without Spider-Man in it. If someone from Activision would say anything, Marvel would tell them to shut their trap.

Why are people getting so worked up? They've only revealed a few characters and the rest will slowly come out. Why does Spiderman have to be in the first batch of reveals?

According to Planet Xbox 360 Spider-man is in. Along with Magento and Storm.
that is only a rumor and part of first set that came out last week, which was supposedly supposed to have been released when the Capcom embargo was lifted, but that didnt happen. The only official characters were the ones that Capcom announced today

Ok, let's talk about something else. So, Marvel apparently wants a strong story for this. Do you think we'll get classic worlds merging? Will Mephisto be involved if he's indeed one of the silhouettes? How would the characters fit into the story? What business does someone like Chris have, who hunts B.O.W.s, fighting super heroes? Will Dante make Mephisto cry? :awesome:

Because Spider-Man is by far Marvels most well known character. It's odd not seeing him in the first shots. Thats all. Why not showcase your most popular character? That leads to lots of speculation. Its the internet. What do you expect?

Haha thats why i dont care about the story in fighting games. Im content at just having the credits roll when i beat the final boss. No one pays the story any attention anyway.

I love that tey said music from the old game will be in this. I hope the character selection screen remains "Gonna take you for a ride". Thats classic! Looking forward to seeing an updated remix version

Iron Man, Hulk and Wolverine are among the companys most popular characters also. Capcom is keeping the reveals small with only 3 per side. I dont mind what they chose, considering Iron Man is about to drop a movie, Wolverine is among the most popular characters out there whereas Hulk is one of the more well known. Spidey will most likely be there. People need to just relax

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 First Details
The fighting series returns with a brand new look.

The game is scheduled for a spring 2011 release date on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. Unlike the download-only Marvel vs. Capcom 2, this will be a disc-based title. In its current state of production there are around 30 combatants in the game including Wolverine, Iron Man, Hulk, Morrigan, Ryu, and newcomer Chris Redfield of Resident Evil fame. Based on the new trailer, it also seems like Dr. Doom, Deadpool, Magneto, Captain America and Chun-Li could also be in the game. Capcom is still hard at work trying to squeeze in as many characters as possible before the tentative ship date, so there's no word yet on what the final total might be and whether it'll rival the over 50 playable fighters in MvC2. Expect a number of characters to return along with others who have yet to appear in the franchise.

Capcom says the reason it takes a while to implement each character isn't strictly because of balancing, but also because this is an entirely new game being built from the ground up. The team is using Capcom's MT Framework tech from Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5 to bring this game to life, and is going for an authentic comic-book style of look. All we have to go on at the moment is the trailer which doesn't show any gameplay, but we're hoping to see more in the coming months. Capcom is handling all art design, though Marvel is checking the work to make sure it's appropriate and fits with the fiction.

What Capcom and Marvel seem particularly excited about is the immense rise in popularity of some of Marvel's characters over the past decade. Thanks to flicks like the X-Men trilogy, Iron Man, and the Spider-Man movies, it seems like there's a greater level of public awareness than ever. As for Capcom, in the time between now and MvC2's release there have been plenty of new franchises, including Dead Rising and Lost Planet. Does that mean we'll see Okami or Monster Hunter characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3? We'll have to wait and see. We might even hear about something on the same level of weirdness as Gears of War characters showing up in Lost Planet 2.

Since the game is still in development, there aren't yet many specifics on how it'll play. It'll include an online mode and the mechanics are going to be similar to Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but not much is yet set in stone. Hyper combos will be in the game, but it hasn't been determined yet if the game's fights will take place between teams of three or two, and the way assists work is still being tweaked. As reiterated by Capcom's Keiji Inafune who oversees global production, the company is dedicated to producing games that appeal to a worldwide audience. No real specifics were offered as to what this means for Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Franchise fans may be either horrified or sublimely pleased to learn that all the music is being redone for this game. I think we can safely say that means there'll be no grating jazz tracks and we can all forget about getting taken for a ride. If you don't know what that last part means, don't worry about it. Another change will be how the story works if you're playing through solo. Players shouldn't expect any kind of epic tale, but there will be character specific endings here along with a greater emphasis on story, and a boss character that Marvel says fans will appreciate.

This game is all about fan service, and plenty of character specific quips and even in-match events are being implemented. More casual fans less dialed into each character's history and personality probably won't care as much, but these kinds of things will likely bring a smile to the faces of those who spend more time editing Wolverine's Wikipedia page than under direct sunlight. Again, this is just what we're being told at this point, we haven't yet been able to see the game in action.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a game many fans have wanted for years, and now that it's official and we can all speculate about who'll be included and how it will play. The way this announcement was timed seems perfectly aligned with showing off more at this year's E3. We'll be at the show, running from June 15 – 17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center and if anything's shown off there, you can be sure we'll cover it.

With the success of these versus games and Marvel fighting games by Capcom in general, I wonder why we never got a DC game. Did WB simply never approach Capcom? I wonder why not.

A First Look at Marvel Vs. Capcom 3's In-Game Graphics

You may have seen these images before, but not armed with this knowledge.

Turns out that those six pieces of character art that Capcom provided to sites for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 show how the characters will look in the game when rendered on Capcom's in-house graphics engine MT Framework, the developer says.

While Capcom tells Kotaku that the characters are in-game models, these static images don't yet include shaders or the dynamic lighting and they are all, of course, works in progress.

Another interesting note, Capcom tells us that the characters seen in the trailer are also in-game models, though with a "cinematic treatment."

So not bullshots, Capcom says. What do you think?

Some good news for Deadpool fans. My source I mentioned before confirmed that he is in fact in this. The guy's been colloborating with Capcom for weeks and was at the event and couldnt say anything until today

I wonder if they will have any new characters that did not appear in the previous two MvC games.

Of course they will. The same guy that told me about Deadpool said that Seth, one of the developers, promised plenty of new blood. Except to see the usuals like the Ryus and Wolverines but there will be alot that werent in this before

Super-Skrull is a weird choice. But I'm sure He'll provide awesome combos of different powers. It seems that from except maybe Dr.Doom the Fantastic Four will be shafted again.:woot:
