I think Affleck would’ve made an alright Batman film but not a truly great one. At worst, it would’ve been just mediocre. Though I must admit after disliking ‘Live By Night’ I kind of soured on the idea of Affleck directing a Batman film.

Believe it or not, i think the bigger loss is Jeremy Irons. He was a GREAT Alfred. And his interplay with Affleck was good stuff when we got it.

That was one shocker of a movie....

Truthfully, Affleck never became Batman for me. Keaton, Kilmer, and Bale became Bruce Wayne once they stepped on the screen, but Affleck always just seemed like Ben Affleck in a Batman suit as opposed to being Batman in my eyes.

At the same time, his Batman didn't capture the imagination of the GA the way Bale and Keaton's did. Ironically, it was fandom who praised his portrayal when they were the ones who freaked out the most about his casting. In that sense , he proved many of his fanboy critics wrong and converted alot of them.

In alot of ways he reminds me of Andrew Garfield's Spiderman and Timothy Dalton's Bond. He fit the role in alot of ways, but was saddled with weak material which made it hard for GA to really latch onto him.

So, I'm all for a younger Batman....but I don't want a beginning of his career Batman. Snyder had the right impulse to give us a seasoned Batman who had been doing this for a little while and had several encounters with his rogues gallery. I'd like to see a compromise. Not an old, world weary Batman but a...middle of his career Batman. Maybe a Batman who has been at it for almost a decade, in his mid 30's or something, still at his peak physically and still has a lot of history with his rogues, with Robin (or robins) and established history with his iconic supporting cast.

An established Batman. Batman exists in the world and has been at it a while. Like a definitive Batman. I'm with you.

Really looking forward to seeing the Art Direction in this movie. As much as I love TDK, the art direction is one of the few things that I didn't really satisfy about it.

The best interpretation of batman is hands down batman arkham series. Followed closely by btas (especially mask of phantasm).

In terms of movies:
Affleck, Keaton, Bale (everyone else sucked).

Bale was not a good batman in my opinion. He has great movies where batman was second fiddle to other characters and also made him a dumb brute with lucius doing everything for him.

I loved affleck as that broken batman who was unhinged (dark knight returns). With that said, I am still waiting for the definitive batman. Combining the fighting skill, stealthy, agile, detective, genius, dark, relentless, uncompromising character we love.

I think reeves will do it

Kinda rigid way of thinking but, ok.

If you think so. I believe any Affleck directed Batman movie would have been a natural continuation of Snyder’s version - which was terrible. Ergo... bad Batman film.

Also, Affleck has directed some good movies, and some bad ones. I didn’t exactly feel like losing him in the director’s chair was that big of a problem.

I don't like Irons really. His Alfred look is not my liking.

Irons has also said some rather unpleasant things in interviews about #metoo, gay marriage, and other things.

I have zero problem with him being gone too.

Throw it at Gambon. He’d rock.

What did he say exactly?

Yep

I’ve said it before but I really believe that we dodged a bullet when Affleck dropped out of directing.
We would have just very likely ended up in a spot where we were waiting even longer for a good batman movie :funny:

Well, he said he thought gay marriage leads to incest... or words to that effect. He also said he thinks touching women on the bottom without their permission is okay, which was creepy. He said abortion is a sin. Those are the things I can remember off the top of my head.

He said these things? Really?

I think if this is true then there would be outrage.

If The Dark Knight is the only movie you think exists in the Bale trilogy then you may have have arguement. BB and Rises are squarely about the man.

Also, you claim to love Affleck's Batman. So you have absolutely no problem with a Batman that is mentally challenged.

So is TDK. He's just reflected through the prism of well fleshed out supporting characters. The movie is still all about what Gotham means to Bruce, what Batman means to Gotham and how he goes about his mission.

What the hell, barely away and this thread is on fire... Reminds me of TDKR hype days.

Good news, not terribly unexpected. Rumors about not being sure if they want older or younger Batman are concerning... It's irrelevant to the script?
