We've come a long way since the monkeys from Jumanji.

Stuckmann gave the film an A+.

There are no spoilers in his review.

Am I the only one who's still amazed at the existence of these films?

I remember when Rise's teaser dropped and people laughed. Who would think a modern Planet Of The Apes movie series would be one of the best blockbuster franchises of the 2010s?

This might be the only critically/commercially successful reboot/prequel series, especially to the point where it eclipses the original(s).

War does something that I haven't seen mentioned in here: War has no main human protagonist. Rise and Dawn had main human protagonists.

How often does a live action film have a cgi character as the main central protagonist throughout the whole film? Has that ever happened before?

Pretty much never. Every adaptation that requires a a non-human character as it's main protagonist often has a live action actor to counterbalance it. This would be a first, even though I guess technically Nova is it. Basically Apes is doing what movies like Transformers and TMNT should have been doing from jump, making the live action actors supporting.

Double Toasted is reviewing this tonight.

That teaser still holds up.

Rise is by far my favorite PotA movie. The movie has so much heart and inspiration.

Hopefully War can excel in other, powerful ways.

I think that was just an announcement for the first full trailer. This one:

I watched Rise the other day and its almost like a film from an entirely different franchise. The differences between Rise and Dawn is pretty staggering.

In one film you've got a functioning healthy society. A guy just trying to raise a chimp that he rescued and that chimp trying to understand where he fits in in the world.

In the sequel society has collapsed entirely. No electricity. No government. Its a Walking Dead type of society with humans hanging on by a thread and apes having their own villages and society. And it deals with a power struggle between two different apes.

Looking at it, its pretty amazing that Fox had the guts to let Reeves take the franchise where he did in Dawn.

I meant the shot of Caesar at the end.

Oh. Yeah its still one of those bits of cgi that makes you stop and stare. Not to mention its one of the benchmarks in the history of cgi. I remember people being skeptical and some bing angry when it was announced that the apes would be entirely cgi. That single shot shut a lot of people up.

As far as I know, Nova is mute in the film. Which is still pretty cool. Shows you the goodwill Reeves has built up with the studio that he can pitch a live action film with an entirely cgi main ape protagonist and a single mute human child protagonist. Oh and a large portion of the main protagonists speak mostly with sign language. And the film is almost entirely focused on characters rather than action. For a summer tentpole franchise thats bonkers.

I just hope this film isnt hurt because of people going in with expectations of lots of action and a fast paced action film. I fear the title of the film and the trailers will have the average viewers expecting this film to be something that it isnt.

I was totally one of those people that was like "all those cGI apes will look so bad!" That crow was delicious btw.

Have yall looked at the tracklist for the score?

Track number 7 is called, [blackout]"Koba Dependent"[/blackout]. I wonder how [blackout]Koba[/blackout] factors into this film?

After the Burton film I think we all expected a very long hibernation for the Apes franchise. Little did we know.

Interviews seem to suggest Caesar has nightmares about him.
