Maxim Online NEW Ray Stevenson Interview

Sweet interview, definitely sounds like Stevenson is really into this.
And this gives me hope that the script we originally got a whiff of has been greatly improved upon since that time.
There was some cheese and a lot of weakness too it.
If this is going to be nothing more then another Punisher flop, I will be very sad.

Sadly I doubt much has been changed. Two main things that were holding the script back, I think is the fact that Lionsgate were on the verge of losing the character rights and had to start production on a certain date. The second being the writers strike.

So outside of a couple of small things, it's probably the same. So prepare for the worst, because you may most likely hear:

Billy is dead. From now on...call me Jigsaw.

Jigsaw is whats holding this film back! Ugh do they really have to use him? The only story he's been in that was worth reading was Circle of Blood, and maybe the arc where Punisher has to disguise himself as a black man. Why can't they throw away that crappy script and start fresh by adapting one of Ennis' great stories like Kitchen Irish, or Mother Russia? No we have to see Jigsaw? Theres probably a reason Ennis didnt use him in any of his stories. Ugh Jigsaw sucks.

I think they basically took Nicky Cavella and changed him into Jigsaw. Dominic West is a good actor, and I think the casting has been good despite Jane leaving. Stevenson seems like he'll be a good replacement, it's just everything else I've heard about this movie that I am leary about.

I'm leary too, especially all the changes thats been going on specifically Ink being Pittsy's son. For the most (until we see a trailer) Im hoping Lexi knows what shes doing, and I wont walk out of the theater with the same disappointment I had from the 89 and 04 version. You have to admit this is some serious talent!

Ink as Pitsy's son doesn't really matter to me...it's not like it changes their characters. Plus, Pitsy is friggin old enough to be his father anyway, so it works.

However, I really hope to God that "Call me Jigsaw" line didn't make it into the movie.

It'll be delivered by the dominic west - if you watch the wire you gotta know it'll be delivered with style!

Oh and jigsaw does suck amightly - he is in no way the punishers nemisis hes just a stupid thug. a royal d!ckhead :wow:

How can you tell a writer has never heard of Punisher before?

They use Jigsaw in a story.

Has anyone here seen this movie The Outpost yet?

ive seen Outpost...Didnt like it much but Ray Stevenson was great in it...He definitely has presence.

I like the fact they shot some scenes in the snow & cold.
I believe it will give it a great new york tone to the film.

on the soldier thing,...... I believe he should be a navy seal true to the comic.
but,.. if he a cop with vietnam in his background with 3 tours behind him,
that's cool too.
Ray can look old enough for that part.

great interview.

They just used Jigsaw as a gimmick.
He's the Punishers Venom, Vengeance, Bizarro, practically every hero has one...
It's really by the numbers stuff, but if they make him as despicable as Nick, maybe it'll be good.
Then again, I am reminded of that "it might be horrible"(or wtv he said) line from West, like he really didn't have any faith in the movie, or at least his character, and he let it slip for a rare moment of actor sincerity.

I just hope there is lots of blood and death.

Remember that scene in 'The Slavers' where Frank bursts into a club full of punks and wastes em all. I love the splash afterwards where the cops are standing around a pile of bodies and the floor is painted red and the innards are hanging out of the corpses.
I want to see that.

The last Punisher film gave us a hint of gore, but not really any.

Jigsaw is a great villain to use, but only if they use him properly. Since reading "In the Beginning" I've always thought that if they were gonna put Jig in a movie they should combine Nicky Cavella with Jigsaw, cause that would be one very interesting character.

But if they just handle him like some lame nemesis with cheese one liners, he will definately suck.

well I know that, he was a marine first and a excellent marine captain,...I was talking about his various training as well.
navy seals, air bourne, special forces, as well as running Black ops training in upstate new york.

The thing is I really want the movie to show that his superior training is way beyond a cop or swat team leader.
sorry about the double post earlier everyone.

You do know that Tom Jane wanted to use Jigsaw as well, right? As did the original writers?

if they use Jigsaw why then can't they just adapt circle of Blood?

Why does it matter as long as the story is good?

this had better have some form of transportation for frank..

and I really hope the alleged plot-item of accidentally killing an innocent person is NOT in there..

There's a fight scene between Frank and an FBI agent (Paul Budiansky), I've heard the FBI agent actually takes Frank down in hand to hand combat, but this was before the Marcum/Holloway re-write.
