MCU Phase 3: Have it your way - Part 1

Not sure if I want Inhumans over Black Panther.
I'd prefer them over Black Panther especially when we're already getting two new solo properties in phase 3 (Ant-Man and Doctor Strange).

I don't think Ant-Man and Dr.Strange need to be trilogies, they seem like properties where you only make a new movie when you have a great story to tell

I'm pretty sure Ant-Man will be one-and-done, unless it's a huge hit, but Doctor Strange will definitely be a trilogy.

In regards to Inhumans/Black Panther, I'd rather see the former.

I mean solo as in individual characters rather than teams, not talking about sequels and stuff.

That said, while we're on it, none of these movies will be one-and-dones if they're successful, obviously. Wright has implied he has sequels in mind years ago when he said they wouldn't introduce Wasp fully because they want to leave things to do for sequels.

I might consider the Inhumans over Black Panther if the Inhumans are as diverse as the Guardians. I want to see black women play Medusa and Crystal. I know Medusa has red hair, but they can change that for the movie if they cast a black woman.

Eh, that was a long time ago. Wright has a busy slate and probably doesn't want to get caught up in making Marvel movies for years. As much as I'd like to see Paul Rudd beating the **** out of AIM agents for as long as possible Ant-Man doesn't really feel like four-quadrant franchise material at the moment.

I don't care whether the actress who plays Medusa is black, white, blue, green, whatever, Inhumans would probably make for a more interesting movie than Black Panther. Most fans forget to think about whether their desired movie would grow and expand the MCU to new places or just kinda be made because it has to be. An Inhumans movie would go into the politics of aliens, introduce themes such as social segregation, racism, war etc in a Game Of Thrones-esque environment. That's the angle the new comic is going for (at least that's what I last heard) so it'll probably be the same for the film.

The only reason people want to see a Black Panther movie is because the lead character is black. If he was white, no one would be asking for it. The bases that would be introduced in that movie have already been covered in Thor - an arrogant king who learns humility and becomes a hero, advanced nations, an ageing king etc. Just this time it would be set in Africa.

After Phase III when all the foundations of the MCU have been fully formed and realise, then they can get around to making that Black Panther movie.

There are several Phase 3 films I would take over Black Panther....As I've stated Hulk 2 I would take over him and I would take Iron Man 4 over him only if RDJ came back. I would also take Blade and probably Miss Marvel over him as well. I would not take BP over all of them if I had a choice.

I don't know much about the Inhumans, but it sounds like their story is similar to the plight of Black South Africans and African Americans.

Hopefully though we don't have to choose and the MCU expands to three movies a year so that we can have Inhumans, Black Panther, Hulk 2 and Miss Marvel.

lol. He doesn't have anything lined up after Ant-Man and Marvel is allowing him to do the biggest movies he's ever done to the widest audience possible. And obviously if he talked about sequels then he has a story in mind, and he wants to tell more about the character. And this was back in 2008. He will do more movies if the first is successful. Not like changing directors has ever stopped Marvel from making sequels before.

“The movies that will be part of Phase III for absolute certain are: ‘Ant-Man’, ‘Captain America 3’, ‘Thor 3’, ‘The Avengers 3’, and ‘Dr. Strange’. Feige has pretty much confirmed Dr. Strange for some time now. They really wanted it to be a part of Phase 2 at one point, but like ‘Ant-Man’ that just didn’t happen. That’s probably the one that Feige is personally rooting for the most and as a result it is the solo film that is the highest priority other than the sequels.”

Well if the plan is:

- July 2015: Ant Man
- May 2016: Cap 3
- November 2016: Dr. Strange
- May 2017: Thor 3
- 2018: Avengers 3

Then that means that the November 2017 slot is open. Could be anything: Black Panther, Inhumans, Ms. Marvel or another property nobody is talking about.

Based on what I have read about them online, Inhumans would make an interesting movie.

However it all depends on if there is someone who has the passion and desire to make an Inhumans movie.

Doesn't Marvel have their 2nd film in 2016 slated for July, not November? Unless they do 3 that year, Dr. Strange is likely July.

Yeah, July. Brain fart as I was thinking of last year.

So, I've been thinking a bit about Phase 3, and this is what I think we may see:

1) Ant-Man (2015)
2) Captain America 3 (2016)
3) Doctor Strange (2016)
4) Black Panther (2017)
5) Thor 3 (2017)
6) The Avengers 3 (2018)

I think Thor 3 is going to lead right into Avengers 3. There may be another film squished in there somewhere, but I think these 6 are going to be in for sure.

Didn't they state that Phase III would have 7 movies?

I'm not 100% Inhumans is on the cards for Phase 3 as of now. After pretty actively namedropping the Inhumans, Feige has been pretty quiet on the subject in his pst few interviews. There's pretty much only one slot open if we assume that Ant-Man, Cap 3, Dr. Strange, Thor 3 and Avengers 3 are locks, and also assuming Avengers 3 is scheduled for May 2018. At this point, based on the recent buzz, I wouldn't be surprised if the missing piece was Black Panther or Captain Marvel over the Inhumans. I'm pretty sure Inhumans will come sooner rather than later though (probably early Phase 4) since Feige seemed pretty passionate about the property.

Feige has only mentioned Captain Marvel when pressed. I don't think she's in the cards before Inhumans. I'm personally not discounting a Guardians sequel trumping Black Panther, Cap Marvel and Inhumans though.

Yea, I mean, we're all reading tea leaves here, but taking Feige's comments in conjunction with reports that we could see (a probably not-yet-super-powered) Danvers as early as A:AOU, I'd put the probability of a Captain Marvel solo film in Phase 3 slightly above Black Panther and The Inhumans.

I don't see a Guardians sequel until Phase 4 because of Zoe Saldana. Not only does she have the third Star Trek movie, she's also going to do the next three Avatar movies, which are shooting back-to-back-to-back. She's not going to be free to do GOTG 2 until 2018 at the earliest unless they can work out a schedule to where her role in Guardians 2 is significantly reduced in favor of some other female member. I am counting Guardians 2 out until after Phase 3 because of that. I don't expect her to appear in Avengers 3.

I strongly believe that the unnamed Phase 3 movie for late 2017 is one of Black Panther, Inhumans or Captain Marvel.

Kevin Feige is mentioning doing three a year now if the 2014 and 2015 movies turn a profit.

My guess for Phase 3 now is

2015
Ant Man

2016
Captain America 3 (Spring, Bloodstone Hunt as plot, Zemo, Songbird and Taskmaster as villains, Diamondback as new supporting cast member)
Doctor Strange (Summer, origin story, Dormammu as villain, Wong and Clea as supporting cast)
Thor 3 (Holiday, original story, Enchantress as villain)

2017
Hulk 2 (Spring, original story, Red Hulk and Leader as villains, She-Hulk and Rick Jones as new supporting characters)
Captain Marvel (Summer, Origin Story, Yon-Rogg as villain)
Black Panther (Holiday, Origin Story, Moses Magnum as villain)

2017 TV shows
Daredevil Season 2
Heroes for Hire (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist as an ensemble)
Moon Knight
Punisher

2018
Black Widow (Spring, Homecoming as plot, North Institute as villains, Hawkeye as supporting Character)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Summer, original plot, Magus as villain, Phylla-Vell and Adam Warlock as new supporting characters)
Avengers 3 (Holiday, preferably Thanksgiving weekend, Infinity + Infinity Gauntlet as plot, Thanos as villain)

Phase 4

2019
Iron Man 4 Spring (Spring, Armor Wars + 5 Nightmares as plot, Zeke Stane and Ghost as main villains with the REAL Mandarin working behind the scenes)
Doctor Strange 2 (Summer, Original story, Shuma Gorath as villain)
Thor 4 (Holiday, Thor Disassembled as Plot, Loki and Surtur as villains, Hela and Baldur appear in Hel post-credits. This is the last hurrah for Chris Hemsworth in the role)

TV series for 2019
Daredevil
Punisher
Heroes for Hire
Moon Knight
Hawkeye

2020
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (Spring, Kree-Skrull War as plot, Kree and Skrulls empires as antagonists but not exactly villains.)
Captain Marvel 2 (Summer, War of the Marvels as plot, Moonstone as villain)
Blade Reboot (Autumn, preferably in time for Halloween, Xarus and Dracula as villains)

2021
Black Panther 2 (Spring, Enemy of the State as plot, Klaw as villain)
Hulk 2 (Summer, Planet Hulk as Storyline, Red King as villain)
Avengers 4 (Avengers 4, World War Hulk as plot, Hulk as villain)

My thoughts on Doctor Strange leading into Avengers 3.

Ok at the end of DS maybe the Doc is fighting Dormamu and he's about to win and out of nowhere the Red Skull pops up with the the tesseract (*insert here Thanos minion who takes it back during Thor 3) and teleports Dormamu and the Soul Gem (MCU equilvent) away. Then a stunned Strange returns home telling Wong (clever way of saying were going to see Cap America)

Then like in beginning of A3 he goes to the tower. Wong tries to get permission at the front office but Strange teleports his way in. Having to prove his magical prowess teleports the whole team back to his headwuarters leaving behind Pepper and Jane. At his headquarters they go over how powerful the soul gem is and how Caps arch took it and also had the tesseract again. Thors not around dealing with tge fallout of T3 and not being home yet to warn the others.

This seems like a decent jumping off point from tbe end of DS/T3 to A3. Red Skull/Dormamu as minions at the beginning of A3 similar to AoU situation. Especially if A3 is a two part movie like I hope. Dont think all the stones will be together at the start of A3 so maybe one last chase?

Just an idea probably sounds horrible oh well

Yeah, it kind of does. :p

Whatever the plot of the eventual Dr Strange movie, its not going to end on a cliffhanger, nor is it going to end on the hero basically losing.

Marvel studios should go international and do a co-production with the BBC and do a Captain Britain & MI:13 TV show...
