Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

This is why I find it hilarious people are expecting an End Game tease for FF/X-Men. The post credit teasers were probably finalized well over a year ago. Now the question is will we see anything during Phase 4. If we believe Feige probably not. Thats not saying things wont change. Spider-Man was different because they were under strict terms with Sony that didn't allow them to wait. Now that they own the rights in full for these franchises.

There is no rule saying they have to get a movie out within the next 2 years. I could see something getting slotted in right at the tail and of Phase 4 maybe Fantastic Four its just too perfect not to. But I totally expect them to sit on x-men till at least Phase 5. Then you could do storylines like Rogue in Captain Marvel 3 etc. As Captain America once said. Patience.

I don't expect to see Rogue in a Captain Marvel movie ever, personally.

I agree - I want a break from the X-Men anyway. Maybe Xavier shows up in another film beforehand, but I'm much more interested in seeing the F4 first.

It's good they're reaffirming they're confident in the stable of characters they already have. The number of people I saw who kept insisting the franchise desperately needed the Fox characters and that everyone else would take a backseat to them is really mind boggling.

Uhhh I guess I hope we can get a F4. I honestly don't care a whole lot about the new IPs they have lined up. I've been a comic book fan for 23 years and I've never even heard of the Eternals or Shang-Chi outside of Ultimate Spider-Man

This is pretty disappointing. If we get F4 in 2022, that'll soften the blow for me

I think five years is too long to wait for an X-Men films. Unless, they are planning to introduce key characters in other films or have Disney+ shows to build up to the film such as origin shows for Cyclops, Jean, and Storm that are six episodes long.

Mutants will likely be introduced before then. Wolverine is a major inclination to start introducing the mutant concept into the MCU sooner rather than later as crazy as that sounds coming from me. I'd be more okay with waiting this long if we can have some mutant characters and X-Men mythos weaved into the MCU beforehand. I just want them to at least exist relatively soon. I cant see them holding off on the IP altogether for that long

I will be pissed if they introduce Wolverine in an Avengers film before an X-Men film though. Lol

But I heard a rumor that Wolverine will have his own show on Disney+ for his introduction.

They are going to force consumers on Disney+ if they like it or not. Especially since the Marvel shows on there are canon.

It's hard not to be confident in Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Doctor Strange 2 will probably do really well at the BO too.

Then we have Widow; Ant-Man and Guardians are getting third films eventually as well

I'd be fine with it. Because Logan has always sort of been a lone wolf before and after the X-Men.

What may happen Is a gradual phasing of the X-Men characters into the MCU that builds to the first movie

And that's fine. But that doesn't mean they won't be successful or that Marvel is wrong to not push them back in favor of rushing to the Fox characters. For most of the audience, the notoriety of the characters isn't that big a deal at this point. Getting the X-Men back was a boon, but it's not a crutch.

Agree to disagree. There's a reason why nobody cared about these characters on the comics and why people like Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk and F4 dominated Marvel for nearly 6 decades. I can understand characters like Iron Man and Cap and Captain Marvel and B-listers... But Eternals? Shang-Chi? Black Knight? These are characters that even hardcore comic fans haven't even heard of. The X-Men are juggernauts compared to them... Why they would take precedence over characters who, y'know, actually matter? I will never understand

That's the thing, though. "Even comic book fans don't know these characters!" doesn't really mean much in this context, because it's about the general audience. And the general audience did not know most of the characters in the MCU prior to their films at this point. We're now living in a world where Carol Danvers, a character who audiences likely had little to no familiarity with prior to her getting a movie, anchored a film more successful than any movie with "Spider-Man," "X-Men," or "Fantastic Four" in the title. Where Groot is now a well known and beloved pop culture fixture despite nobody hardcore nerds knowing anything about him before 2014.

Like I said, the X-Men being back? That's great. I'm sure they'll get some use out of them down the line. But they were doing fine without them, let's not pretend otherwise.

Funny enough, a few pages ago we had a bit of debate about whether or not Marvel would put out an X-Men in a short period of time after they got access to them but I decided to quit since I lost interest but it’s nice to have been proven right.

But don’t fret, though, MCU X-Men will be worth the wait. It won’t feel like such a long time. It definitely won’t take ten years, lol. The X-Men are home and they will be in the MCU sooner rather than later.

Marvel is in a better position with X-Men and Fantastic Four than are with Spider-Man. They don’t have to do Sony’s bidding in regards to churning out a Spider-Man film in a short amount amount of time.

Yes, this Is a fair point. But Captain America, Iron Man, even Ms Marvel/Carol Danvers are/were all to an extent still Marvel icons. After the big four, the Phase 1-3 characters are who people would name. They weren't THAT obsecure and I enjoyed their comics myself.

Shang, Eternals, Black Knight etc are characters/properties that WERE being made out of necessity. If Marvel had the A-listers back 5 years ago, I guarantee you that all of these people would be in the back of Feige's mind. It highly annoys me that these nobody-characters are getting made before Marvel flagship characters. Nobody got into Marvel comics because of these Z-List unknowns. The MCU was still made with the intent of characters that Marvel fans actually WANTED to see. I wanted to see Iron Man, Cap and Thor on the big screen as early as 2000 after the first X-Men movie. You honestly think anyone would have been excited if Externals, Shang-Chi and Black Knight were the Big 3? So while you're right in saying that star power no longer exists with these people, that's still no reason to scrap the bottom of the barrel. We have the X-Men and F4 back home, with them comes decades of material for the MCU. You could realistically only make 2 Eternals because of the lack of material in the comics.

Imagine if DC decided to make a Plastic-Man movie when they had Flash and Wonder Woman at their beckon call.

This sucks, man. I hope we get the F4 soon...

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. Captain America and Hulk I'd say perhaps, but I wouldn't count the likes of Black Panther and Carol Danvers up there as "icons" initially. And certainly not Ant-Man or the Guardians.

But regardless, that's where we're at right now. Maybe they'll eventually start introducing the mutants via cameos or something like that, but I can see why they're not in the hurry to abandon what they were already working on.

Wait, how does Deadpool fit into all this? A Deadpool film is DEFINITELY coming out before 2024. So we going to have some mutants in that or not?

Well, he said we're not getting an X-Men film anytime soon, not that we wouldn't see X-Men related characters showing up. Deadpool showing up first wouldn't surprise me.

A Deadpool stinger at the end of Endgame would be a perfect hint at the transition. Have Deadpool walk in with a map. Mutter something about a left turn at Albuquerque, say "Awwwwwwwwwww, this isn't the Mcavoy or Stewart-verse" then shout "dammit now where the hell is Cable" and walk out.

Still I think you'll hear the word Mutant in the MCU long before you see an X-man. Especially with what they can do with Starjammers now and all kinds of things.

I expect they'll play the long game with X-men, by continuing introductions of lesser knowns alongside more popular ones. I'd expect a 3 movie year to be one sequel, one popular character, and one lesser known from here out so they don't burn everything out at once.

I'm ok with waiting till Phase 5 if they introduce certain characters in other films first.

I like the idea of Professor Xavier sending out the X-Men to go uncover and infiltrate the Avengers. Leading to the team up movie.

For example, Storm should be introduced in Black Panther 2 but we should not know she is Storm until the very end of the film with her taking off a wig to reveal her white hair.

I disagree. It wouldn't fit in the type of movie Endgame is and undermine the gravity of this film being the final chapter in this era of the MCU.

I want to leave Endgame crying tears of sadness, not tears of laughter.

Eh. I think your going to be disappointed then. There will be emotional moments sure but they'll end it with a tease of what's to come. And if that happens to be deadpool then it's deadpool or it might be an Eternals or black widow tease.

Marvel Studios's post credit sequences don't always tease what's to come. Look at the Iron Man 3 & the first Guardians which didn't tease the next installment at all. But even if they do have a post-credit sequence that hints at the future; having a Deadpool post-credit sequence would be really out-of-place in a film that's supposed to be a emotional goodbye characters who we've come to know for over the ten years. Its not just that its a post credit scene but its a post-credit scene that would be a massive pendulum swing in tone from the heavy movie we watched.
