Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

Definitely more interested in the Disney+ slate at the moment over the movies. Not that I'm not excited about the movies but the shows can be more experimental and they give a spotlight to characters who would otherwise be given 15 minutes of screen time every few movies. Wandavision was a great first entry. Apparently covid caused a few scenes to be cut that would have improved the finale, but other than that some of the best stuff the MCU has done yet. I never would have put Vision and Scarlet Witch amongst my favourite characters but Wandavision shot them up near the top. Excited to see what the shows can do for the likes of Falcon and Hawkeye.
Other than She Hulk and Moon Knight, none of the upcoming TV shows are that interesting to me.

With Phase 4, I'm super excited for all of the movies they've announced thus far. With the shows I'm definitely most intrigued by Loki, as the trailer was absolutely insane. On the other hand, I really am not interested in a Hawkeye series, so I suppose its more of a mixed bag on that front.

I think Hawkeye should have been a movie just like Black widow. I'm not familiar with Hawkeye in the comiXs so I'm not sure how they could make a Hawkeye series very interesting. And from the looks of it, they are definitely using it to launch a new Hawkeye rather than giving Jeremy Renner more screentime/development.

Hawkeye has been the black sheep of the MCU...no one is really that interested in him, dont know if its because of Renner or what (id say probably Renner lacking any charm) but yeah...giving him a series is like giving him scraps from the looks of it, but at least he's getting it and it'll be the equivalent to a movie.

I prefer if it was a movie also because it'd been done in 100 to 130 minutes and I could watch it with the other Marvel movies when I'm binge watching. I can't see myself rewatching all 9 episodes of Hawkeye. Well I haven't rewatched any Marvel live action series from beginning to end.

WandaVision was 3hrs in total length? Just 30mins longer than your average movie. Im sure Hawkeye will be similar.

I'm pretty sure WandaVision eXceeded to 270 minutes eXpecially with the last two episodes being more or less 40 minutes without the credits and previously on clips. But I also have no interest rewatching the series' homage to sitcoms for 6 episodes. The show had terrible pacing.

Well you were never interested in the sitcom side of it because you wanted a standard MCU action flick. But the whole sitcom premise was Feige's own brainchild and personal project and without that there was no WandaVision.

Its not about the lack of action. I don't watch Marvel movies to get my standard action fiX. My favorite tv show is Lost and I wouldn't call that an action show while my favorite MCU film before Endgame was Winter soldier and it wasn't because of action either. And I would be preferring the Transformers, Fast and Furious and DCEU movies if I just want standard action. Yes I have zero interest in sitcoms and upon watching it, this show didn't need to dedicate a single episode for each decade of sitcom. SiX out of 9 episodes is a bit much.

The flashbacks in episode 7 (which covered different stages in Wanda's life) were all showcased in a single episode, so there wasn't a big need to pay homage or to dedicate every decade of sitcoms for siX episodes. I think they skipped the 90s era and that didn't hurt the show. So It was not really needed. Imo, they really stretched a single storyline by doing this "sitcom of the decade per episode" and those didn't really pay off in the end. Like I said when the show premiered, the first two episodes combined could have been a 15 to 20 minute scene for a movie.

They could have easily covered the 50s sitcom up to Modern Family for a single hour to showcase Wanda's sitcom inspired fantasy world, and they could have still featured those many outfit changes and gags in a hour. They didn't need to dedicate an entire episode for Modern Family, Bewitched and the other sitcoms they've used as an inspiration. The earlier episodes minus ep4 (Monica's centric ep) had really slow pacing because they used eXtra screentime to pay homage of sitcoms of yesteryear which didn't eXactly advance the story and the main story was stalling because of it.

Most of the sitcom callbacks weren't even integral to Wanda's story especially those infomercials and the intro parodies. Those looked like it belong a Dvd special features section or viral marketing. Towards the end, after they ended the sitcom episodes, the pacing became faster since they only had two episodes and they needed to wrap things up. As a whole, the pacing was very inconsistent. It could have been a tighter show if they didn't focus so much on paying homage to sitcoms and they could have used the other episodes to eXplore more about Wanda and develop the other characters if they didn't want to limit it to a 2hr movie.

Now if those siX episodes covered different stages of Wanda's life rather making a parody for sitcom of the decade, then that could have been a better and more meaningful eXperience. If I rewatch WandaVision, I know which scenes I would skip and most of those are in ep1/2/4/5/6/7.

wanda needs to be held accountable for all the bad she's done.

i would love for her to be the antagonist for a while.

one thing tho - the overlying thanos storyline started in the avengers. prior to avengers, there were 2 whole phases that went by until he was introduced.

we don't necessarily need a big bad right now. we can wait a few years.

I hate it, when people use such terms. “We” includes me in your assumptions - and I can’t wait

Huh? The first Avengers movie was the end of Phase 1.

So here are my quick predictions on whether or not the Sokovia Accords will play a factor in the various MCU projects. It was brought up in WandaVision:

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Yes.
Black Widow: Yes
Loki: No
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: No.
Eternals: No
Ms. Marvel: No
Hawkeye: Yes, but only in reference to Barton
Spider-Man No Way Home: Yes
Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness: No
Thor: Love and Thunder: No
Black Panther 2: Yes
Captain Marvel 2: No
Blade: No
Moon Knight: No
She Hulk: Yes
Secret Invasion: No
Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: Yes, but only in reference to Lang
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3: No
Iron Heart: No
Armor Wars: Yes

Plus Variety reported a new D+ show is in the works (Echo). I don't think they can just announce shows daily though lol. Not unless they're planning to also release something every day.

Last friday they premiered a new D+ show. What were you expecting, the X-Men, Storm, Gambit movies and Kitty Pryde D+ show announcements this week? :funny:
