MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 1

Should Spider-Man really pop in the MCU (or Sony's Sinister Six for that matter), I don't see the harm in hiring an no-name gymnast to play the role in costume and using Garfield (or whoever) for a voiceover performance.

I don't need to see Peter Parker's life played out in a crossover film, therefore I don't need to see a face. Just have Spidey involved.
I need to NOT see a face! Can't they make a better quality mask that doesn't fall off after 2 minutes? :woot::csad:

To be fair, one thing ASM2 did well was keeping Peter in the mask. He only took it off when he went to see Gwen after the Goblin battle

Apparently on November 4th there's a prime time special on ABC: “Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop" hosted by Emily Van Camp. I'm guessing it will be more comics based but I'm sure it will include some stuff from the movies and TV shows.

2014 marks Marvel’s 75th anniversary, and as part of the celebrations fans can catch an original, hour-long primetime special of our full history from 1939 to present, plus an extraordinary peek into Marvel's future!

“Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop!” will take fans new and old alike through the decades with the people who lived them in exclusive interviews, hosted by Emily VanCamp, star of ABC’s “Revenge” and Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Tune in Tuesday, November 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC to re-live 75 years of your favorite heroes in “Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop!,” and stay tuned to Marvel.com for more on the stupendous special, True Believers!

Yeah I liked the Spidey bits in ASM2 (and Emma Stone) just everything else that I had a problem with.

I don't know if I would want Spider-Man to just show up to fight villains briefly and then leave, it seems like most people here assume that's whats gonna happen. Sure I would love some Spidey action but I don't want it to be pointless or forced. I would even find it more fun for Peter Parker to interact with the other members, Im assuming Tony would be impressed with his science knowledge and stuff like that would be cooler than Spidey fighting which we have seen before.

A lot of people complained about the end fight of TASM 2 because it was impossible to connect with 2 CGI characters. I kinda agree with that but at the same time I agree that its annoying that he takes his mask.

Either of those would be fun to me. And I think particularly the younger GA members would go crazy for both.

The more I've thought about it, but if Sony is still involved, then I don't think a TIH-esque "requel" would be a bad idea; using TASM1 & 2 as a vague history to the background of the MCU Spider-Man.

Though in such a scenario, they biggest things I'd ignore from those films is Norman Osborn not being the Green Goblin. I'd say have him believed to be dead (they can bring him back later) with Peter and Harry still being friends. Maybe it could be the chance for someone to do they whole Harry taking up the mantle angle right finally.

I love Spider-man, one of my favourite comic book heroes of all. But damn I don't want a solo film for a long time. I don't even want to see Goblin in the MCU till after Phase 3 is finished.

I agree, its kinda sad that as much as we would want to keep watching (good)Spiderman movies, the best thing for the character would be stop making movies for a few years.

The one thing I find that nearly all solo hero films fall into the trap of doing is just reusing the same villains which limits how long they can keep going on for without seeming too similar.

lol this isn't a matter of opinion, Andrew is 31 and Tobey was 28 when Spider-Man 2 was released.

Marvel should just cast a 20 year old so they don't have to worry about the actor getting too old for the role which is the exact problem they have with RDJ

regardless of my typo, Andrew is a younger looking 30ish than Tobey was. He brings a more youthful exuberance to his roles as well. Tobey barely pulled off the HS part of SM1. Garfield was very convincing as a teenager in TASM.

All that aside, I'm fine with any Spider-Man in the future skipping the high school era, because his college years are far more interesting. This would avoid the problem all together as Parker could progress into the real world easier than bigger jumps from the arc of "hs-college-professional" life.

Integrating into the MCU, I think the secret ID thing could actually work, especially if a subplot was Peter using his wits, spider sense and agility to keep his ID a secret from his Avengers teammates while still being on the team mainly because the team see his potential to be great and they want to cultivate his heroic career. Spidey can be part of the first generation of heroes who looked up to The Avengers as a YA. Cap and Thor look eternally young by their nature. Other than that, only BW looks close in age. Barton Stark and Banner all look at least 10 years older than Garfields Parker.

Tobey was also only in HS for the 1st half of the movie. So, I don't think that is an issue. I am one of the first to say, I don't like TASM series of films, nor do I like the Garfield version of Parker overall.

But, this is a MCU thread. Not a Spider-Man thread, so I will just leave my comments on preference of Parker's at that. I will say to get Spidey into the MCU, I would say TIH style reboot, but don't use TASM as a vague history. Either use the Raimi one (since it has Norman as GG and Ock already happened) or just outright make up a new continuity. I don't want another Spider-Man origin film. For a LONG time.

How about getting Garfield as Peter for the high school years, and then having Maguire as Peter for the university years? :p

I like the Ultimate Spider-Man concept in the MCU. Where Fury knows Spider-Man is a teenager and actually doesn't want him being a superhero.

Marvel continues to surprise me.

I always discounted the possibility of a Civil War movie because I figured RDJ wouldn't be portrayed as a pseudo villain.

Wonder what sides everyone will take. I guess Tony could be feeling guilty about Ultron and decide that the superhero business can't continue to be unchecked and need some regulation.

It kind of makes sense following on in a way from the direction of Cap 2 and presumably the Stark fallout after AoU but it doesn't fit into building up to what we thought Avengers 3 was going to be about (Thanos).

True but then again I thought A2 was going to be Thanos until Ultron was announced.

Civil War? Eh, that was probably one of my least favorite big crossover Marvel events. It was such mess, hopefully they do better in the movie-verse.

I really don't know how Civil War will work on film, but whatever.

It will have to be radically different from the comics.

Agreed. The whole premise of Civil War revolves around superheroes and their real and secret identities coming to light. As of now, there are absolutely zero superheroes in the MCU that have secret identities which makes the whole registering thing kinda pointless.

Civil War sucked and they had to write pretty much everyone as ooc stupid just to make it work. Tony got the worst of it by far. And NOTHING in MCU Tony's character makes me think that he'd EVER support something like the SRA. Heck even Coulson describes him as having "a complete disdain for authority" and he openly enjoyed mocking/belittling the Senate in IM 2.

I see no actual evidence for Civil War happening, period. What I do see is a publication making a *lot* of **** up from whole cloth.

"Tony Stark is appearing in Cap 3" does *not* mean "Cap 3 is going to be Civil War". That's a *huge* leap. . . especially given its a casting that is only just now happening.
