MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 1

I feel like some people are reporting that Cap 3 will set up a bigger Civil War for Avengers 3.

Does that mean Thanos is Avengers 4 now?

I would hope they can Downey for that movie. That's kind of the problem no matter what.

Now that I think about it, Thanos for Avengers 4 works for one of the Guardians stars (Zoe Saldana) because she'll be free from Avatar and Star Trek at the time.

I really hope we get this Guardians Avengers team up.

So.....what to make of all this. If this is leading into some sort of "Civil War" storyline then there will be much dissension within the group or whatever is left of it. I suspect all these guys will be the closest of friends having each other back and trusting one another in the beginning of AOU. And then all hell breaks loose ending the film with friendships all but destroyed and everyone having different opinions about the future of civilization.

This makes easy pickens when eventually Thanos shows of amongst so much division and chaos. New members appear in the MCU like Panther and Strange and it won't be enough to stop the end of the world. He will probably lay waste to the earth and its heroes. Things have to get so bad before they are revived and reunited.

Im thinking Avengers 3 and 4 are filmed back to back. This will culminate into an epic end to phase 3 and the beginning of phase 4. Thats my take.

If that were to happen what would be a good way to satisfactorily resolve AoU for the GA? What would be the final non-credit scene?

I'm thinking that Civil War will run through the entirety of Phase Three with Stark's Avengers (Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Vision, Hulk?) in A3. Then A4 will conclude the Civil War story with an all out team up two part Infinity Gauntlet to close it out.

If Thanos is the overarching main villain that will be the climax of the first 3 maybe 4 phases then the real question is where does the MCU go from there?

That remains to be seen. Some of the more older beings in the universe could become threats to existence. Living Tribunal perhaps? Maybe a take on Korvac saga? Secret wars? Galactus/Surfer assuming Marvel got their hands on them? We know Thanos won't be the end all. They would tease any next big worldly threat after Thanos.

Honestly after all this and being around 2019/2020 a better question will be how much of an appetite audiences will still have for these films?

If we get a Thanos Infinity Gauntlet climax with all Avengers old & new and Guardians teaming up it will probably be the biggest film since Star Wars in terms of impact. I was a bit too young to appreciate it back then but I don't know if the general consensus after Jedi was Yay! but had enough for now. They'll probably have to start quietly again introducing new characters slowly as they build to a smaller 1st phase of the next mega-Phase.

I am interested in seeing if Marvel finally announces a captain marvel or a black panther film now that WB/DC just released three films that will either feature a female lead or a POC in the leading role.

Marvel isn't going to announce films to be released 4-6 years in the future. It hasn't even officially announced a third Thor or the date for Dr Strange and those are supposedly 2017 and 2016 movies.

Considering that WB/DC have so far only released MOS and won't even have BvS out for another 2 years (almost a year after it was first planned to be released) I'm taking these films and dates as being written in pencil and not ink. Look what happend to all of Sony's release dates for Spider-Man, Venom etc after the release of ASM2.

Marvel sets the trends, they don't follow them. Leave the reactionary moves to the other studios.

Just want to reiterate what the previous two poster said, Marvel follows their own path. DC is the unproven studio. Their last 3 efforts were Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and Green Lantern, all of which had issues and 2 of which had planned sequels canned. Let DC get one movie right, then we can get hyped up for movies 5 years down the road.

I really think BvS is guaranteed to be a Smashing Hit,no matter how it will be critically received, that will be enough to give WB confidence to go forward with its plan.

Will be very difficult to top Thanos. We will have to wait to see who's left standing afterwards.

Kang the Conqueror would be nice. For Avengers. Would also like to see Thanos survive and be lurking in the background.

They can also scale back and introduce new characters. Having smaller crossovers and team ups, then in another 5 to 10 years have another free for all. Skrulls invading. Kree Skrull war. Earth might even be conquered by aliens and the heroes have to form a resistance.

Yep, after a multi-team teamup against Thanos you can't just keep going bigger and bigger. The aim then should be to start building with smaller projects towards the next Thanos level event another 3 phases later. I'd love a Kree Skrull war eventually. Show the GA that aliens in the Marvel Universe are cool, dangerous and intelligent, not crap, boring, dumb and weak as **** like the Chitauri.

No it shouldn't for the exact reason you stated, it is virtually guaranteed, now if Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman do really well, now that would be a confidence boost.

I was thinking mostly about budgetary reasons, but you are totally right about the confidence boost.

Well, the rumor (emphasis on rumor) before Civil War rumors was that Avengers 3 would have RDJ and some new(er) teammates thus saving the ScarJo and the Chrises' contracts for a big Thanos brawl movie that wasn't necessarily an Avengers movie. I didn't believe until these CW rumors though

They hired writers for Thor 2.

I like that Marvel hasn't announced movies that far out
that list of DC films seems like countin your chickens before they hatch to me
Marvel doesn't announce s**t til its set in stone

Yes, and they have a director, a script and are looking for a star for Dr Strange. But neither film has an officially announced date yet. So they're certainly not going to be announcing dates for films with no set script, director or cast 3-5 years in the future even if they have solid plans for them.

Unless your Edgar Wright....:woot:

Sorry, cheap shot, I know.

You said they haven't announced Thor 3 or a date for Dr. Strange. I thought that was evidence Thor 3 was in the works.

They know who's going to run Thor3, but that's the only information so far.
