MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

I mean thats why we got Civil War because marvel wanted to compete with BvS.

Right, but then you talk about green lighting Doom and rushing it out. No one was suggesting they rush it. Just that a Doom solo may be a good idea.

I must admit the Joker movie will most likely get critically panned given the track record of DC/Warner Bros and the director but I do hope that it does encourage Feige to give the archenemy of the Fantastic Four his own movie.

I'm curious if Marvel Studios would be able to make their first ever super-villain solo film. I don't want Doctor Doom introduced in yet another FF film.

Disney's cinemacon panel is later today I wonder if well get any Marvel updates.

I have no idea why so many people underestimate the recent crop of MCU heroes.

That Joker trailer is one of the greatest trailers I've seen the last decade. I'll be shocked if the film isn't Oscar caliber (I know it's a trailer). At least Phoenix's performance. Incredible. I hope it is great because it may make Feige rethink Hawley's Doom, which I certainly want to see. Just a different flavor to spice it up even further.

Who’d think Carol Danvers would be a billion dollar property? Awesome milestone Marvel, and here’s to more female led superhero movies of quality.

Endgame is totally gonna make a billion the first week. I’m calling it now.

Joker? Panned? HOW?! That trailer looked amazing

It really did. DC takes two steps forward and two steps back because that could’ve easily been a one shot live action movie for the Killing Joke.

But that’s another thread.

So did the first trailer of Suicide Squad.

Look how that turned out.
That's a completely different set of circumstances. WB chopped that movie to hell and changed Ayer's vision. What made you come to the conclusion Joker will be panned?

The director doesn’t have a very good track record, imo and Warners tends to be quite hit-or-miss with their comic properties. Suicide Squad is a good example of a good trailer that can hide a bad movie in the making. Warners doesn’t quite have the strong creative voice that Marvel has with Kevin Feige so I’m naturally a bit more skeptical. Even BvS also had some good trailers and that movie still...well you know turned out be so hated by the critics.

And I don’t mean to be a negative nancy since I really dig the trailer myself but I’m only imploring people to temper their expectations since we know how inconsistent Warners is with their comic book properties. This movie looks to be another Venom movie where it’s a trashy fun movie but it’s really financially successful.

Still excited about it though but I just don’t see it getting much critical love. I’d love to be wrong, though.

Honestly, the person I think Steve has the best chemistry with ( in the modern era, natch ), by a good distance, is Natasha.

I just think he'd be happiest with Peggy. They never really got a chance. If you change the past, you never know, we could have another Captain America running around....

He'd frelling hate running SHEILD anyway. :cwink:

I mean, on some levels, yes, but on other levels. . . well, its not really about what makes him happy, its about doing the right thing. And being in charge of SHIELD would give him the best chance to ensure that such an organization stays on the right track.

Exactly. Black Panther and Captain Marvel both made a billion, Far From Home might and the Doctor Strange sequel will see a boost at the box office after his appearance in Infinity War

I just think that after all the crap he's been through, they're going to give him that type of sendoff, but don't think the character is done. They may recast at some point, but I see a Harry Potter ending for Cap; which, BTW, I hate because I absolutely LOVE Chris Evans.

I honestly just have a gut feeling that the Big 3 aren't done yet. They may be done in terms of individual films and major roles, but I don't see death being a forgone conclusion for them, particularly Thor. I would even place Iron Man over Cap.

I also think none of the big 3 are done. I think Iron Man and Cap retire and Thor finally becomes king. Banner And Hulk could go either way. Then you have supporting Avengers Widow and Hawkeye.

wow already a billionaire after just 1 film appearance? is that a record for a superHERo?

The thing with them retiring is.. wouldn't they feel the need to step up and help the avengers should another inevitable crisis arise? Thor I can see doing is own thing trying to rebuild Asgard, Stark I can see maybe if he has a kid and finally fulfills his promise to Pepper to hang up the suit, but even then I would find it kind of hard to believe. With Cap, maybe he becomes director of SHIELD? Has his hands tied dealing with other problems maybe.

The Carol Danvers version of Captain Marvel is straight in the comics, but there is a lesbian Captain Marvel. She is Phylla-Vell, the daughter of the original Captain Marvel and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In Phylla, Marvel has a ready-made LGBTQ+ heroine who can and should be added to the MCU.

Steve's extreme behavior regarding Bucky in both TWS and CW was enough to persuade me that their relationship could be interpreted as romantic. But it was statements made by the Russos and Markus & McFeely that really pushed that possibility hard. All four of them stated in various interviews that Steve's love for Bucky was the driving force behind his actions in CW. When discussing the helicopter scene, Joe Russo said that Steve had a "very passionate" motivation to put on that display of strength. That caused many fans to assume that Sharon was in the copter. Steve showed as much passion for Bucky as he did for Peggy, and far more than for Sharon despite the chaste kiss they shared.

All of this is to say that fans who think it plausible that Steve and Bucky are/could become lovers aren't just creating that out of nothing. Viewing the two of them as bi isn't even remotely ridiculous. The subtext is there and could easily become text if Marvel allowed it to.

(BTW, Steve & Peggy are my favorite couple. just ahead of Tony & Pepper. I don't even like Bucky and I can see it. o_O)

There was actually a "Give Captain America a Boyfriend" campaign a couple of years ago. It arose from the "Give Elsa a Girlfriend" drive among Frozen fans. There was even a Twitter hashtag. The backlash was predictably ferocious.

Just because you love someone doesn't mean you are having sex with them. They were friends from childhood ofcourse steve loved him.

Whoa. Deadline says Doctor Strange 2 could end up being the second 2020 movie instead of Eternals? I don't see it

Not revealed — what the Marvel movies will be for 2020 for the new merger. Word is that will come to reveal itself after Avengers: Endgame opens at the end of the month. Rumors have been that it’s Black Widow standalone movie and Doctor Strange 2.
