MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

Interesting since all data indicates Eternals is filming later this year and we've heard nothing about shooting dates for Doctor Strange 2. It would have to start by late summer to make November. Further, when would Eternals then be coming? I guess it could be early 2021 in lieu of Black Panther.

Seems Derrickson and the writing team is near completion on the script if that is the case. I'm more than OK with this news cuz it's bout damn time for Doctor Strange to get his shine again!
Looking forward to Eternals too BTW.

Exactly my thinking. I can't help thinking that people are projecting and perceiving non-existent subtext just to suit their own fantasies.
I agree with that
I also actually really dislike when 2 characters are close there are a bunch of lesbian or gay jokes. It's just really immature thinking that 2 men, 2 women, or even 2 people of the opposite sex can't be close unless it's romantic. Its just so ridiculously immature

Strange 2 was said to start filming next spring for a 2021 release per THR unless Strange 2 has moved ahead of Eternals in terms of schedule and development maybe they decided to swap Eternals and Strange 2. I always thought having Eternals in 2020 along with Black Widow was weird. Feige likes to do the one new franchise and one sequel format.

Shipping is more about just thinking that two characters, of whatever gender, would make a good couple. I’m not sure why that notion is so ridiculous? Yes, the idea that two characters can’t be friends without being romantic is illogical, I would argue, but that’s not the same thing as shipping.

Black Widow isn't exactly a new franchise, though. She's been in a ton of movies by this point, so it sort of fits.

I'm not talking about shipping.
I'm talking about every time two characters are close that people think there are romantic undertones. That's different from shipping

Plus there could be a link between Black Widow and Eternals, since one of the Eternals, Druig, is a KGB officer in the comics who becomes prime minister of a Soviet state called Vorozheika: sounds like perfect fodder for a link between the two movies.

Damn... I want to see more Strange but that seems like a WAY fast turn around.

Oops - misinterpreted what you were saying. Sorry :o

I really hope they can get 3 films ready for 2020. My schedule would be.

Black Widow - May

Eternals - August

Doctor Strange 2 - November

Derrickson is still filming Locke & Key which ends production in June. They could start production in November and go for a November 2020 release. Ideally Id want Strange 2 in the big May 2020 slot but if thats not doable then Id settle for November.

I'm really concerned if Strange is getting fast tracked for 2020. Like, it's great to get it sooner rather than later, but that's not a movie you can rush out. Who knows, maybe it's further along than we've been led to believe. We could theoretically see Black Widow in May, Eternals in July and Strange in November, but I'd be surprised.

Is it really being fast tracked tho? When we're coming up on 2 and half a years. Derrickson was talking about nightmare being the villain during the press tour in 2016. So they obviously had ideas. Prior to the Eternals rumors everyone had Doctor Strange 2 pencilled in for 2020.

I guess that makes sense. It's just seemed like we haven't heard anything recently about it. But (If it has the November slot) there's a decent chance it was always meant to come out then and The Eternals is what is replacing GOTG3. I feel more confident now. Get me Michael Emerson as Nightmare and introduce Clea and I'll be happy.

The last thing we heard was from The Hollywood reporter they were saying they were looking at spring 2020 production start and a 2021 release. But that always seemed strange to me. 5 years after the 1st movie? Especially when Strange is one of Feige's favourite personal franchises? Unless something happened recently and Strange 2 somehow moved a head of Eternals. Maybe a change in actor schedule? or Derrickson finally cracked the script and story. As I said hes still got a few months of production left on Locke & Key tv series. So he cant start production before July. Unless Locke & Key finished ahead of schedule.

I think it's doable IF the script is already done and Strange keeps the November slot. Only thing holding it back is how effects heavy it is. I'd love to see it next year.

I think Dr. Strange is a harder character to write for because you have to get really creative with the magic. So it is better to take time. I want it to be inventive like the Dormammu sequence last movie.

The first movie seemed to have a really quick turn around. I think they had the script already done for a couple of years but Perlmutter wouldn't green light the project. So once Feige got the green light from perlmutter they cast Cumberbatch in 2014 and production began a year later in November 2015. Principal Photography wrapped in April 2016. 6 months before release. Thats quite a turn around IMO.

I found the constant jokes talking about how Frodo and Sam are gay to be really annoying.

I still think it'll be just Widow and Eternals next year. Especially since we've already got news of Jolie joining the cast and reports said they're set to film this summer.

I see too much of this on Twitter.

The article seemed to hint at Strange being one of the two films next year, so I don't think we'll get three. I'd be happy, but I don't think it's happening. Chances are it's still Widow and Eternals, but we won't 100% know for sure until, presumably, D23

This is part of the reason why Feige hasn't announced the phase 4 slate yet because things can change and are constantly in flux and its great. Imagine if they announced the slate already but then Strange 2 moves ahead of Eternals but they already had Eternals pencilled in for 2020 they would have to bump Strange 2 to 2021 or delay Eternals to change up the schedule and it would look bad.

They have changed their slate publicly before, though. It's never hurt them in the past.

Does looking bad matter?
