Supergirl Melissa Benoist IS Supergirl/Kara

I remember at the start of the internet age when I was doing these searches for Supergirl on AOL or Netscape (before Google existed) that all I ever saw back then were references to Earth Angel.

^ That's because the Kara Zor-El Supergirl didn't exist between 1987 and 2004.

I know that. I'm just remarking that the Matrix/ Earth Angel Supergirl seems so closely associated in my mind with the dawn of the internet age. I probably associate her with that more than any other comic book character.

^ Ok.

Even though the characters are totally different, I'd love to see Berlanti and Co. use some ideas and/or characters from the Matrix/Linda Earth-bound Angel Supergirl era at some point.

The more I see of Melissa...the more beautiful she is :ilv::ilv::ilv: and the suit just keeps on getting better.

Left pic: Kind of thought Melissa was a tea girl (note the tag hanging out). Although with the warm SoCal weather it should've been iced tea

Right pic...reminiscent of one done by Lynda Carter during the final season of Wonder Woman (from the episode "My Teenage Idol is Missing"...found on a Facebook page with a lot of Wonder Woman pics.)

Well the technical aspects of the drawing are good but the shading is way too harsh and makes her look older than she is. Her face and hair need to be done more softly, and on females you shouldn't emphasize the neck but again should be softer. Her jawline also looks too angular now.

Alrighty. It also could just be your monitor, because it looks fine on my phone, but lighter on my desktop.
Will definitely fix up a few things tho

I agree with Dark Raven; that drawing does make the character look way too old (she looks like she's got wrinkles and sagging cheeks), so I'd definitely change the shading.

People do get wrinkles when they smile, no matter what age. I can brighten it up, I guess.

It's that the smile lines are too defined, as is her jawline, giving it a more chiseled look, which is something you should never say about a girl.

And it's not my monitor because I've seen it on my tablet, phone, laptop etc. I think you don't see it quite objectively though because you've been working on it and can't see what others immediately see at first glance.

True. It might be the levels. I'll definitely brighten it up.

It's not the levels. You can't just bring everything up using some general slider. It will just look like a more bleached version of the same picture but still just as overly defined.

Her neck, for example, looked extremely pronounced. That's way too defined for a woman. It's better to be more of a subtle hint of it, even if it means not seeing some of the neck muscles. And the contrast between some of the darker and lighter areas of shading on her face was too much. It might be that dark on the original photo, but you can't always go that dark when rendering it as a drawing, especially a pencil drawing as you can't obtain the same subtleties in skin tone as something like oil paints.

Dude, I know that. I even said I'll fix some of that stuff (and actually already have. I totally erased the neck muscles and made them less pronounced. I see that that was an issue now. And I've rounded off the jaw some more. Going to make the face a little smoother etc). I was talking about the overall darkness.
I haven't been drawing for a day, y'know lol. I do appreciate the feedback, though.

And rumor has it that David Rapaport called Melissa back a day early from her vacation so that she would be the first to audition.

That's not a rumour: Sarah Schechter said as much during the Comic Con round tables.

If you're a die hard SG fan then it's worth digging out the thread on the sg.tv site's forum where I collated all the Comic Con interview videos (or the equivalent posting on Tumblr where someone else did the same) and sitting through all the producer/writer videos (Andrew, Greg, Sarah and Ali) rather than just Melissa's videos. The writers give a way far far more info about what happened to get the show on air, and what's coming up in the future, than the actors do. Andrew, in particular, is very open about giving little snippets of upcoming plots and scripts, while Sarah's interviews often mention how the show got started and got commissioned. (Drinking game: take a swig every time Sarah mentions Ginger Rogers.)
