I've heard from our projectionist that we're having an 8 p.m. showing of MI4 on December 20th, and possibly a 10 p.m. show as well. We did a similar 'preview' for TF3 and Fright Night, and usually there's not much of a turnout.

If I don't work that Tuesday night, I'll be seeing it.

Brandt is not a villain. He's an IMF agent who received the mission to protect Ethan's wife Julia when the President initiatet Ghost Protocol, but failed and Julia ended up dead. However, Ethan eventually reveals that he faked her death and gave her a new identity in order to protect her. Michelle Monaghan has an uncredited cameo;

Ving Rhames also has a small cameo as Luther Stickell, having a beer with Ethan;

Michael Nyqvist's villanous character Kurt Hendricks intents to start global nuclear war for his own profit and it's up to Ethan and his makeshift team to prevent him from using an advanced weapon of mass destruction to accomplish his goal.

I re-watched the first Mission: Impossible last night. Planning on watching M:I2 and M:I3 before Friday rolls around. I know it's not that big a deal but I can't stand the idea of seeing a movie without every seeing earlier sequels. Only saw Part 2 once and I was only half paying attention and never got to see 3.

a day ago it was 91% on rottentomatoes with 1 negative review and today its 100% with no negative reviews....seems they changed that 'Variety's Justin chang' review to positive....

3rd one is my favorite. JJ Abrams did a solid job. And Philip Seymour Hoffman's villain is just perfect.

That's what I keep hearing from friends who've seen it. I'm looking forward to seeing it either tomorrow or Thursday.

Got an early Press screening for this with a friend and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and completely taken by this film. It is easily the best action movie made in years. Easily the best M:I film and finally a performance by Tom Cruise that is worthy of his talent which we haven't since "Collateral."

Brad Bird: Mission Accomplished! The man can pretty much do anything!


I won't get into the story too much as I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but the basic plot is that the Kremlin in Russia is bombed by a terrorist group and IMF is framed for it. Because of these actions, the president decides to activate Operation Ghost Protocol, which essentially means that the entire IMF organization is disavowed, meaning Ethan and his team are on their own, and like the tagline says "No Plan, No Backup, No Choice".

The story is quite solid. Nothing groundbreaking but enough to keep you interested through out.

The performances were generally good all around. Simon Pegg was enjoyable as Benji and Tom Cruise seems very comfortable as Ethan Hunt. Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton also gave some great performances.

The action sequences are where the film really shines. Not all scenes were great, I thought the bombing of the Kremlin used some very fake looking CGI which made it more humorous then intense. Also, some scenes seemed a little too far-fetched and made me think that Tom Cruise must be made of steel but that's pretty minor. If you try not to look into this too much, then chances are you will enjoy the action. The fight scenes are very well done. incredibly brutal and realistic looking. The sound for this film really helped as you could almost feel every punch and kick as well as the explosions. The greatest scene is Ethan climbing the hotel in Dubai, the worlds most tallest building. Shot in IMAX as well, I almost felt like I was right there next to Ethan looking down from above. Huge credit goes to Tom Cruise for performing this stunt himself!

Overall, I found this to be a very entertaining and solid from beginning to end. Easily the best film in the series and if all goes according to plan Abrams, Bird, and Cruise should return for another globe-trotting adventure! because they deserve it.

Agreed, it's sure to look nice on the big screen. I'm not putting it on TDKR levels or anything here, but this is the closest we've come to an 'franchise event' type flick in a while, actually. I haven't really heard any deal-breaking bad press about Ghost Protocol. It's pretty much glowingly in favour of it. I like the sound of the plot a lot, with the agency a bare bones unit out on its own, framed and disavowed.

The reviews for this have been overwhelmingly positive so far, seems Bird made the transition into live-action with no problems, i'm not the biggest fan of this series but may go and see this based on the positive reaction it is getting.
