Modern Warfare 3 reveal in 5 days - Part 1

Launch Issues Prompt Free Extension For Call of Duty Elite

Even though everyone knew Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was destined to be a massive hit, Activision (apparently) wasn’t fully prepared for the onsalught of users to access its new online destination, Call of Duty Elite.

Elite is best described as Call of Duty’s expanded answer to Halo's popular Bungie.net service.

“We are having trouble scaling the service to meet demand,” said the company in a statement. “Many of you are trying to get in and unfortunately, you can’t right now. You’re frustrated, we know it, and we know we need to fix it. Our teams have been working non-stop to identify issues and resolve them as quickly as possible. Again, these issues have no impact on the performance of the game.”

Your stats are still being tracked even without Call of Duty Elite fully functioning, so when Activision is able to get everything fully operational, all the data should just plug in without issue.

In order to make sure everything is cool, though, Activision is extending the premium membership for users by 30 days for free. Anyone considering becoming a “founder” will have until the end of the month to ensure that status, and will also receive an additional 30 days when they finally set it up.

“We are committed to Call of Duty Elite for the long haul and are working around the clock to resolve these issues,” continued the statement. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

When you download Elite using the download token that comes with the Hardened (the cardboard flyer that also includes the avatar items) you automatically get Founder's status. The metal founder status card with your founder's number is meant for people who get the hardened edition at a future date so you can redeem founder status later. So just download elite using the included token and you're good.

I beat the campaign this afternoon, it was OUTSTANDING, the ending was so satisfying!!!:up: I finally hit the multi, frankly I suck at it lol, but to be honest I've never been a big fan of this type of multi, but I'll keep plugging away and get better as usual!!!:sbr: The game as a whole though is awesome 9.5/10!!!:awesome::up:

Theater is the best thing ever. It's as good as Bungies now, with one feature that's better. The slow mo. You can lock it without holding any buttons down like with Halo.

But I do like Halo's better, mainly because the levels are visually impressive, and you can play with the camera more.

So picked this up on release date obviously & I'm highly disappointed with it.. not that it will matter to Activision because they'll still have my money whether I like it or not.

Literally, at least on the PC anyway this game feels/plays & looks absolutely identical to MW2. I mean that in the most literal of ways. It's like an elaborate map pack for MW2.. and I personally felt MW2 was easily the worst game of the entier CoD series.

The best way I've been describing the game is that it is MW2 with a fresh coat of paint. It doesn't feel like they've even attempted to improve the game at all or fix any of the issues that MW2 had.. tubing spawn at the start of S&D is still possible can you believe that AND furthermore they took ricochet off in S&D HC meaning you can teamkill your entier team.. which actually happened the team opposite me yesterday when some jackass joined & started firing a rocket at his feet at the start of the round killing the opposite team.

The matchmaking is still crap just as it was on MW2 & I will guarentee that come early January this game will be unplayable on the PC once the hackers find a way for their aimbots, wallhacks etc to work.

Ignoring the fact that this game will outsell BF3 comfortably & just comparing the 2 games, MW3 is by far the lesser game & in my eyes its far more of a flop considering how overhyped it was by the strictly Call of Duty fanboys telling people how much better than MW2 & BF3 it was.. it's the same game as MW2 with little improvement.

I'll be playing it at least until I get to level 80, which shouldn't take too long given that I'm 60 now & then I'll probably be playing BF3 primarily until I get till level 50 at least & play MW3 sparingly.

I look at the call of duty series like I look at the iPhone. Both were game changers in the beginning. Due to that initial notoriety, they've been put on a pedastool. At this point in time, they only need to keep their ips fresh in the public mind by releasing new versions with minimal improvements every few months. This helps keep them on the pedastool, which overshadows smaller companies who come out with better products. This is not to say that these two products aren't good (they wouldn't be popular if they weren't), but there isn't any "need" to push the envelope further due to their stature. It's a shame that better products from lesser known companies get left in the dust because of this.

This is such a silly post to me.

Games are 60 bucks. You can wait I guess, but lets take that out of the equation.

Why pay for something you MAY or MAY NOT like? I'd rather know exactly what i'm getting. And that's why I like COD.

Don't be so snobbish. COD takes away nothing from other games. If those games are worth playing, they'll get the hype they deserve.

It was really sad. Very emotional moment. At least we got to get revenge for him in probably my favorite level of the game and maybe of any game this year. Everything from getting to play as Price to walking in like a badass to finally putting the beat down on Makarov and finally the nice quiet ending for Price. Just phenomenal

Just beat the game and honestly...

I felt sadder when Price had to leave Sandman behind, that was pretty ****ed.

I was surprised to see Timothy Olyphants' and Idris Elba's names in the credits, that makes this game just a little bit more cooler.

I can assure you that the CoD franchise will have to evolve or it will begin to leak customers like a sieve. You can sense even reading magazine & user reviews that people are a little irritated by the lack of innovation MW3 has shown.

This is partially because they had 1 eye on what DICE/EA did with BF3 & the fact that it's practically a whole new game from the ground up, yet at the same time it felt familiar.

It's actually a good thing that DICE/EA have said enough's enough & want to take a larger slice of the FPS pie, it will force CoD series to either evolve, or it will be left in the dust.

COD takes away nothing from other games

Actually it does. Because it's so popular other games are being cannibalized to be like it. Crysis 2, more linear, multiplayer is basically Call Of Duty. Xcom, a game that involved thinking, wasn't even a FPS to begin with is now press X to win. Syndicate, press X to win. Battlefield 3 (which actually used unlocks first) is now an unlock and primarily more interested in giving you as many items and unlocks as possible than it is at being a team game. Crappy medicore 5 hour SP chucked in. Exactly like Call Of Duty. Skyrim, pretty much any deph was there gone. Now just a bunch of perks. It also is primarily the practitioner of selling map packs for quarter the price of a full game. Releasing addtional content on a platform well before others. Adding a price point onto a game above other games because they know it's a "hot seller". Basically, Call Of Duty, and anything to do with Call Of Duty, is bad.

How is my post snobbish? It's the truth, everyone talks about it. Cod pushes a game out every year with little to no additions While other game properties take the time to improve upon their previous games and bring something new to the table. The reason is that the cod team KNOW that whatever they make will sell regardless. This isn't snobbish. Heck, I even SAID that the games were good (I own them all), but that doesn't mean we shouldn't expect more for them.

Some people are really stupid with the exploding care package. They make it so obvious. We were taking the B flag and an enemy threw his care package at us. Were we supposed to think he was being generous?

That being said some people are even dumber. One of my teammates captured it and killed all 4 of us.

Supposedly, there will be 4 map packs. So lets assume 5 maps each, that's 20 new maps?

Well they must be doing something right, each new game tends to out sell it's predecessor. I think that they change just enough and/or add something new with each new game that it keeps people coming back for more.
