Mortal Kombat: Legacy - Part 2

Last I heard the new movie comes after the setup series.

This is correct and incorrect.

While production start has apparently been delayed a bit, the film is whats next.

Though, Season 3 on Legacy is also slated to happen.

Delayed eh? Bummer. Was looking forward to that. The first MK did pretty damn good for a video game adaptation. Surprised it's taking this long.

It looks pretty good actually, was Cage in there? If so I missed him.

Are there any new word on if the movie will follow the series or be it's own thing?

Nice trailer. Not many nitpicks this time, other than the usual. Still don't like the added friendship background between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. And Scorpion with pupils just looks wrong.

Scorpion and Sub Zero remind me of the history shared between Madara and the First Hokage from the Naruto series.

I thought the first series was excellent. Fav episodes were the Scorpion/Sub-Zero ones.

Does anyone know if the episode running times are similar to last series? I'd like them to be a little longer, even 15 minutes or so.

Exclusive: Kevin Tancharoen Updates on Mortal Kombat Feature Film

Choreographer-turned-director Kevin Tancharoen is the mastermind behind Mortal Kombat's live action resurgence in the past few years. Tancharoen created a pitch for a film reboot of the game series a few years ago that turned into an online series titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy. A second season for the series is set to debut next week, but between seasons, Tancharoen was tapped for the Mortal Kombat reboot that he initially desired. ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype spoke with Tancharoen today and asked him about the progress on the feature film.

"We're still pushing through on that. The script is in a good place, we're just kind of figuring out the budget and locations and that whole process is where we're at," he said.

We also asked Kevin if the continuity for "Legacy" would carry over into the big screen film or whether it will be its own thing, to which he replied:

"I think everyone's intention is to start fresh because we want Legacy to live on its own possibly for multiple seasons, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, it's been around for 20+ years. We're going to take the mythology and add another layer on it so it can live on for another 20 years, or more! I think this is a unique opportunity to set that ground work."

The entire Season is already up? I thought the Episodes would be released weekly? Was that always intended or did they screw up?

It was announced in the press release. That they would release the entire season. That is probably why it took so long

This was a surprise to me as well. But it doesn't matter. I'll see when I have time to check it out.

Ok, just finished watching all of it. Generally, I like it. There's places where the obviously low budget of the series peeks through but overall I'd say it accomplishes it's deal in a slick manner.

On the negative side, there's quite a bit of ham here and there and some costumes/make-up decisions are simply awful (Biker Sub-zero, I'm looking at you):

It's weird that they went with Biker armor for Subzero when the actual feudal dark blue Lin Kuei robes were way cooler. He didn't even require a face mask...

Also, for a show that doesn't have a good budget for effects I'd try to stay away from doing CGI green-power-snakes in a scene. It looked really lame compared with the general CGI used.

Mileena's scars were badly glued/placed and looked fake. If they're there just so you can show her monster face once I'd rather have her without any scars at all and still have a monster face that rips her cheek line like that only when she shows it..

Overall it wasn't bad. I'll give them a pass for some effects, since it's a web series. I liked the way they came up with the powers. Like everyone has a special gift, but in the normal world they are repressed. On the island though, their powers manifest for the first time.

Most fights were actually pretty good, the one that disappointed me the most was Sub-Zero vs Scorpion. Their fight was a highlight in the first season. In the 2nd season, it was the least exciting one. And I don't appreciate the Fatality steal. There should have been a toasty.

Thought the first two eps were great. But was let down by everything else. The Sub Zero/Scorpion storyline was not laid out or edited well at all. Felt like a mess. They should have just had a different tournament fight each ep. Felt alot of this was rehashing old storylines.

I agree with the fatality steal, that pissed me off. Should have torched his ass. Pointless change, that just tried to switch it up for the sake of it.

It was weird. They didn't really follow the games and didn't bother explaining what was going on either.

Liu Kang won ten years ago? So the tournament takes place every ten years? How did he get from the US back to the White Lotus, covered in blood? Brian Tee did a good job though.

How are Kenshi, Sub-Zero and Scorpion suddenly in the present day? And when did Sub-Zero join the X Games?

Felt like a waste of Johnny Cage. Kind of humorous but he should make you laugh out loud.

I didn't mind this too much. I actually enjoyed Ermac's new origin story and how it tied in with Kenshi's. Hated the monster look though. And I didn't mind Liu getting on the wrong path either, especially when you just know he'll regain his senses. The hitman part might have been a bit much though.

Mustn't have paid attention. Didn't know he won a tournament before. If that's truly the case, that's weird.

Well, Scorpion doesn't need much of an explanation. He's a spectre. But Kenshi and Sub-Zero were head scratchers indeed. I guess it could be explained that every fighter that's on the winning side of the MK tournament gets granted immortality. But then again, MK's whole story was always about that Outworld won 9 times in a row, and needed the 10th win to take over Earthrealm. So I have no ****ing clue what's going on.

I don't know, his "F**k dat!" made me laugh out loud.

Shang Tsung said Liu Kang took his head off ten years ago, in the previous tournament.

Ok, listened to it again. What the heck Tancharoen? So the MK tournament takes place every 10 years, instead of once every generation. Sub-Zero is from feudal Japan, with no explanation how he survived all these years. Oh, and his younger brother has already been killed too, closing the doors for a 2nd Sub-Zero to appear.

Yeah, just some weird decisions. Don't really see the point of changing the history since this series specifically targets the video game fans.

I don't mind some changes. If they do have to make changes and try new things, it's best to do it with a web series, that will have no relevance anyway, once the Movie gets made. So throw some ideas around and see what sticks.

I watched the entire season and I have to say I was a little disappointed.

There was a little too much focus on the stories and not the fighting. Some were good don't get me wrong but others...not so much.

They were also too short which made it more frustrating that we didn't get more after this long wait. The Mileena/Kitana/Johnny Cage one for instance basically recapped the Kenshi fight, why? Why would you do that? Show them seeing it sure but don't waste showing it again.

I also think it wasn't wise to release them all at once. You can blow through them all in an hour, no anticipation for the next episode unlike last time when you had to wait from week to week.

Edit: also, why didn't Striker get an origin? He was the only one who didn't get one. I want to know how and why Raiden recruited him.

Hope the next season doesn't take long to get here. I want to see where it goes.

Yeah....overall, this was pretty terrible. The writing was dreadful.

On the plus side, the guy playing Liu Kang was absolutely excellent and it was great to see ol' Shang back in action. I also enjoyed the Kenshi episodes even though they took a giant dump on Ermac.

Still...pretty bad. They need better writers and actors because the show is actually well shot.
