The Amazing Spider-Man Moviehole scoops details on both scripts...

yes but Sony ok'd the script quit acting like Sony is not responsible they are the damn studio putting the film out

Err... Sony didn't ok the script... that's why we are getting a reboot and SM4 is scrapped. That is why Raimi walked.

But you can bet your ass they would still go to see the new Spider-Man film.

that goes without saying but the fans has always been largly irrelavent the important factor is the GA. will they embrace the new direction?

Based on these details of the new Spider-Man script, I definitely have no interest in seeing it. Sony is becoming the new Fox.

I actually wouldn't mind a darker tone if the villian were lizard. a darker tone would actually suit the subject matter. I really wanted sam to tackle the lizard though as it plays to his horror strengths. oh well.

the D9 director would be perfect for a lizard centeric movie

THIS MAN MAKES SENSE PEOPLE!

Why didn't Raimi just play to his strengths AND give us what nearly everyone wanted?

The Lizard!

Raimi would of done the Lizard story perfectly with his horror background.

But not, Raimi wanted to do a ****ing Vulture as the editor of the Bugle story

Yes Sony came up with Vultress. And that was ridiculous.

BUT Raimi also came up with the TERRIBLE idea to make Vulture the editor of the Bugle. HE came up with the terrible idea to give Pete and MJ a baby, which would inevitably lead to MORE relationship melodrama crap AND Pete wanting to quit as Spidey... AGAIN!

Raimi and HIS writer wrote that TERRIBLE script. Sony wanted to change Black Cat to Vultress. That's all they wanted. And Raimi walked.

Hello? Sony was pushing for another villain too! It wasn't just the Vultress!

And what in the world happened to these script writers that Sony hired? Did I not get the memo that Raimi had become the new writer for the script? If Raimi came up with the script, then that's honestly news to me.

Raimi and HIS guy came up with the plot outline.

Vanderbilt wrote a back up script incase Sony didn't like it.

by all accounts the studio wanted a villian with a human face (unconfirmed)

That's very easy to believe. Harry wore that stupid paintballers mask for about 30 seconds. Venom was always peeling back the symbiote to have Brock deliver the dialogue.

They didn't want to hide the villain's faces ever since the Goblin in SM-1.

playing devil's advocated for sony (to try and fathom their idiocy)

* forced a popular villian on the director
* overloaded the movie with villians

result = most successful spider-man movie to date

Basically for SM4:
- Spider-man 4 DID feature Peter and Mary-Jane with a baby.
- Vulturess was added in the script, at the request of the studio.
- Vulturess was a retooled version of Black Cat.
- Vulture was the editor of the Daily Bugle.
- Script was apparently pure crap.
- Raimi had lost hope in the project and walked.
- The studio also wanted to add a third villain.
- Anne Hathaway was gone from the project late last year (my guess is when Sony turned the Black Cat into the Vulturess).

For the reboot:
- The script is much better than the script for Spider-man 4.
- The script IS complete, and was finished at the same time as SM4, allowing the studio to compare the two.

- The script was commissioned as a contingency plan, should Raimi walk.
- Unfortunately, they describe the script as "more Dark Knight than Spider-man".
- The new film is the first part in a new trilogy.
- The aim of the script is to cut the "fluff" - which they speculate means no humour and a serious tone.

The bolded parts are the only parts we should be focusing on.

I can believe this too.

What a shame. The whole thing is a damn shame. All I can do is shake my head. Spider-Man 4 almost wrote itself with the Lizard.

Wasn't Vanderbilt working on the script before Raimi signed up for the job?

Because that's what I remember.

Regardless, the way things have been handled has been one of the most disorganized and incoherent things I've tried to understand and follow. Haha.

Raimi was always signed up.

Oh I'm confused now, the press release a few weeks ago about why it got delayed and all that said Raimi wanted Vulture as head of the Bugle etc etc Sony wanted to change Black Cat to Vultress and that neither parties could agree. Hence it got delayed.

that's very short sighted in regards to lizard because he is a visually insteresting character despite being grotesque. much like the prawns in D9.
the duality is what makes the character interesting. it will be a crying shame if lizard never appears on the big screen because of sony's short sightedness

And who is? I'm not.

I'm just saying I'd rather the possibility at a good film. With SM4 there was no possibility.

And why does"more in the style of TDK" necessarily mean a negative thing? Because it might y'know, actually be good? It might not have stupid dance numbers and cheesy melodrama?

It doesn't mean they will change the Spidey CHARACTER. It means the film will be more serious and adult. And that is a good thing.

yeah, "like TDK" can simply just mean... i dunno... a movie that people actually are enthralled by and that it's well crafted and taken seriously?

i can understand your enthusiasm but it is easy to say the script is good when we have no details of it unlike sm4 script

just don't believe everything you read take it with a grain of salt

This makes no sense.

They are rebooting it because they want to keep their cash cow?

Guess what? Making SM4 would do exactly the same thing.

They are rebooting it because SM4 was doomed to fail, they knew this.

i belief this as well... especially due to my friend who was working in SM3's art department at the time... the entire art department knew how messed up SM3 was going to be and were scratching there heads at why sony and raimi were letting it happen. sony imo took initiative this time and decided to scratch the franchise and start over.
