MUSIC Score and More DISCUSSION

i'm interested when is the score's release date?

I've really grown to like the score from the first movie...It's nice to see Ottman returning..

This probably belongs in the other board but is there any news on the score in the director's cut version of the film? That seems to be the perfect place to put in the full score that was cut.

*Edit*

For the record, I think John did some terrific work on Superman Returns and X2. It's been his most iconic that I've heard so far which left me disappointed in his FF work but realizing that it was cut makes me want to hear the official score. Hopefully FF2 won't receive the same problems, otherwise I would get a different composer.

I'm so glad. His X2 score is some of the best movie music out there. It's had some serious workout on my iPod.

John Ottman is my favorite composer out there after John Williams.

Btw, I never knew that Ottman looked so young.
Him being 40-something was not what I thought. I thought he was 60-something.

I love the reprise music being used on the myspace page:up:

Soundtrack.net have their first listen up now, but be warned that the track titles contain big spoilers. Especially for those of us who haven't read the novel.

BIG SPOILERS WHEN YOU FOLLOW THIS LINK

Not sure if these will work, but for those who don't want to be spoiled by the track titles:

I love the SS theme, but can't wait to hear the score in it's entirety, as there wasn't enough with the clips to really get into it for me. I like the Doom stuff as well. Can't wait to hear the full thing in the theater.

Can someone do direct links to the audio that won't spoil the film? I know it's a silly request, since this is the "Spoilers" board.

I edited my post, hope that works for you.

YEah. Can't hear much with the clips. The Silver Surfer theme is nice though, quite soft and sad.

And yes, Ottman has truly exploded his range as a composer as of late. The Usual Suspects and Hide and Seek were mediocre scores with some great moments. Then X2 just evolved his form, giving soem great cues and riffs and pushing in some great themes that would be abandond by Powell, though Powell did a good job in X3.

But Superman Returns was simply amazing. I don't know what he took or shot up with before writing that score, but that score is amazing. Everything from the new Superman theme, his emotional theme, the plane sequence music, to the new "Reprise" take on the Love Story...was amazing. I listen to this soundtrack routinely.

However, I will say that it looks like Story told him to not make it too mature with Fantastic Four 2, as the seriousness of SR is not entirely present. Which is okay, different films with different tones.

Man this guy is good. He samples a lot but does just enough to add to his orginal score. So amazing.

Agree about SR. Man I hope he can take it up to another level with the supervillain fights in the sequel!

Oh yeah, Thanks MattC, couldn't get it to work from the original site.

I still don't care for the main FF theme (that 'dah-dah-da-dum-dum' beat which seem to have remained intact going by these samples and was one of the varied things I rather disliked in the first film) but the Surfer's theme is a winner for me: suits the character very well.

I think Ottman also said that he enjoys these Fantastic Four films because of their lighter content, he can approach them on a lighter basis unlike Superman Returns which was a lot more serious and somber.

With FF, the tone is decidedly lighter and dare I say more fun, so I think Ottman plays with that, and quite well if you ask me.

I liked the main FF theme. It was adventurous and fun :woot:

Wow. That's a damn good score. Gotta love this guy's work. I'm gonna go watch Fantastic Four right now.

Any word yet on a Fantastic Four 2 song album like the first movie? I know Wind-up did the first album but I haven't heard anything for the 2nd movie.

That is perhaps some of the best soundtrack scores I've ever heard....the theme for
Doom's Doublecross
is phenomenal.

GS, that one was my favorite......that is exactly the type of music I thought of as I was reading the novel.....it goes perfect with those scenes....

I've always wanted epic music like that for Doom....that type of thing could be the new "Imperial March" for Doom like that music was for Vader....

So far 2 things have happened with the novel and the tv spots and now the music....

The 2 scenes the Johnny/Sue switching scene and the Sue/Surfer were EXACTLY as I had them in my mind....and that very seldom happens when I read the novel before hand.....and then the music I heard for Doom was PERFECT......so I'm feeling pretty good about the movie right now...lol

I love how Ottman incorporates his original themes but interweaves them in a way that makes them seem more fresh and exciting.

I can't wait for this CD. After the disappointment that was Spider-Man 3 and how Young's score release was delayed until the end of this year, Ottman's FF2 score will be the first I purchase this year and it just feels right. I hope the movie and the score delivers like I suspect/hope it will. :word:
