My First NY Mugging

I'm glad your ok man.

Do you think they would have done it if you were black?
If he was black they might have even killed him.
Most muggers I see don't want a witness later.
But if they're victom is white and they're black , then they'd be too scared the police would take them down later with extreme predjudice.

Ummmm...he was in a black neighborhood. Not to say they would not have mugged him, but being white he'd probably have a highest risk of death.

In my area black people who are robbed are often killed afterwards.
A white person usually isn't.

Calvin, I'm sorry to hear that. You should go to the police and file a report. Maybe them no good, low-life POS will get caught.

This is what happens when Calvin doesnt carry his hair straightener.
It was actually the first time in a while I'd straightened it, I've just been wearing it curly most of the time. I should have left it curly, maybe in the dark the semi-afro would have disguised my non-negroness.

I filed a report right before I got x-rays done at the hospital. I'm supposed to come to the Harlem station tomorrow to look at photos. I don't remember what they looked like though, so not sure how much good that'll do. It really happened to fast for me to get a bead on their faces. All I know is that they were about younger than thirty.

My sympathies. The good thing is that you're still alive and breathing.

Your cool hand tattoo didn't scare them off?
Glad that you're okay.

Well, another day, another lesson learned. Don't be white walking through Harlem alone at 4 in the morning. Was leaving a good friend's birthday party. Had outlasted all my friends in the drinking department, so I was the last to leave the apartment of the family that threw the party. Then on the way to the subway, was jumped by two guys, and beat down pretty badly. Broken nose, partially crushed windpipe, black eye. Took my wallet, cell, keys, cigarettes, even my chewing gum. Bastards. They could have at least left the gum.

First time in my life I think I've actually been rendered unconscious. I'm not sure if it was the choke-hold or the pummeling of the face that knocked me out, as there was much of both to be had. I struggled to get away, but I remember thinking not to throw a punch or elbow, since they had me outsized and outnumbered. I didn't see any weapons about to be used on me, and the guy strangling me just kept saying "go to sleep, b**ch" so I figured they weren't trying to kill me as long as I didn't piss them off by getting in some hits.

I remember it felt sort of like being drowned, like someone was pulling me underwater as I struggled to get air, and then all of a sudden I was having a relaxing dream, with sort of a soothing underwater feeling. Then all of a sudden it was like rushing up out of the water into hard air, gasping, covered in blood, instantly realizing what had happened, with my pockets empty. It wasn't like a normal sort of groggy awakening at all.

Initially, while still pretty traumatized about the whole thing in the ambulance after I'd called the cops, I remember thinking "f**k NY, I'm going back to Pittsburgh" but now I'm actually in pretty good spirits. As soon as I calmed down, I realized that I'm not gonna let an experience like that sour my image of NY. Just gonna have to pay a little more attention to where I am, and when I'm there.

Hopefully since my nose is a bit ****ed, and it hurts to speak, and sounds like I swallowed a frog, they'll be cool with me not coming to work on monday. Door to door charity work pretty much relies on me looking non-f**ked up, and being able to talk a mean game.
OMG does this suck:down I've never been beaten up before, let alone mugged, but I can just about imagine. . .I really hope you get well love:meow:

This was actually much worse than just being beaten up. I've been beaten up before, and usually you know the motivation and how serious it is. Whether it's over a girl, or over an argument, or whatever. You usually know it's going to end in bruises or a bloody nose at most. When this started happening, the only thing going through my head was that they were going to kill me. I've actually been having little flashbacks of it today, and remembering that sickening fear of death that I felt at the time.

It takes a smart person to realise that, never let one incident leave such a judgement on you.It is a good idea to look around you,and speaking for a overseas friend in New York, carry a gun with you,it makes you feel a whole lot better, and you can go out anytime you want. You have every right to defend yourself.:cmad:

Considering the circumstances, me being drunk, I'd have probably either shot myself, or had it taken away from me and then used on me.

Exactly. And, can you really just shoot two guys?? I know they're ***** that tried to rob you, but we don't live in the wild west. We don't just shoot people. Take some self defence lessons or something. But carrying a gun around is just nuts. It's more likely to cause an accident anyway. Just look at the figures.

This is the most depressing thread TODAY:( I really do hope you feel better:up:

Curse the bastards who did it!

If they had just asked for my stuff, I'd have given it to them. They just jumped me without saying what they wanted. That's why I thought they just wanted to kill me for being there.
