Good grief! Do you? Gwen was the first true love who ultimately died. In the movies, they may just be reversing things. If, and I say if, MJ dies in this movie, do you then understand the potential significance of Gwen? If not, then you need to go back and update yourself on the Spiderman mythos.

Misused? Within the context and limitations of a two hour movie? None of them. You seem to be looking for the same expansive depth that a comic can bring out over the course of years. Based on that logic, not only are the villains misused, but the heroes and supporting characters in every movie made from comics, books and any other source material.
And Superman II?
Non and Ursa are no more than henchmen (specially Non), and Non and Ursa don´t exist in the comics (at least, until that time), which makes them original, so you can make whatever you want with them.
Henchmen, perhaps, but villains just the same. So if the Spiderman movies had had a Sinister Six, would the other 5 have just been henchmen to Doc Ock (or whoever they chose to lead the group)? Oh, btw, I wasn't complaining how Non & Ursa were used. I was using them as an example to refute your argument that four villains couldn't work.
But, i´ll give you that it all comes down to the writing, which as to be extremely good.

Look, everyone can have their favorite version of Venom(and there are threads on this very site for people to discuss it), but the reality is that there are numerous variations on Brock/Venom and it appears that Raimi is using at least one of those(Brock pre-bodybuilding days). We haven't even seen Venom yet, but several "insider" reports say he will have the tongue and sharp teeth.
