I remember we talked about the possibility of an 'R', but I don't think many were expecting it in the first place.

I remember i was disappointed 'cause i wanted a r-rated.

Well, now after knowing all the characters have killed people, I believe that the reshots are to light things up and add more heart to it.

As I said before, I liked the idea of New Mutants with supernatural and horror elements because it fits the story and characters, but a straight horror movie with no heart? No, thanks.

He literally said this: " The horror is pretty dark, but there’s also an emotional core, too. If I can scare you and make you cry: that’s the goal."

I mean, hell, they're completely different films but look at his first two films: Stuck In Love & The Fault In Our Stars, there's a very strong emotional component to both, yes, he didn't write TFIOS, but he wrote SIL, and you can kinda see that other sensibility.

This is going to be about character. Excited to see this puppy.

Well, you can't really sympathize with them if they did **** on purpose. Unless the ones they killled were just blatant monsters.

Magik killed people under Belasco's influence while in Limbo to avoid S'ym and N'astirh.

Sunspot accidentally killed his best friend or girlfriend I think.

Moonstar can predict deaths so I guess failing to prevent could count.

Cannonball is the only innocent one, but he did throw in with the Hellfire Club so he has a degree of culpability with what Donald Pierce did during that time.

R rated or not. The rating won't make a difference here if the story is bad. Also, the New Mutants aren't even that graphic in the comics.

Danielle Moonstar gets gutted and paralyzed by Demon Bear in the comics. Magus turns S'ym into a technorganic being and he subsequently transforms Magik into Darkchilde. Warlock gets drained and then disintegrated by an immortal regenerative cyborg with the head of Cameron Hodge. Are you sure you've even read the comics? No, there isn't blood and gore on every other page but The New Mutants comics got quite graphic at points and were more reminiscent of Havok & Wolverine at times than Uncanny X-Men.

That's because it is one.

Some of JB's recent comments may help some to begin to understand exatly how much he really cares about and understands the New Mutants as characters. He simply wanted to make a horror movie with "superheroes" in it. That was his "genius vision".

And no the movie won't make you cry, however (if you are a fan of the New Mutants) it may make you feel like crying after you see this discombobulated mess of a movie that does no justice to the titled characters.

This is Xactly sounds like a Horror film. :o

Though I wonder why Fox couldn't just release this in April. This is Fant4stic levels in the making and with the Disney deal being approved on the horizon, salvaging this just seems pointless. They would probably profit more instead of spending money for reshoots.

I do think all that can be done with a PG-13 rating, though.

Their stuff kinda just looked scarier due to the artwork, but the regular X books had similar horror themed stuff at times but it wasn't viewed as R rated.

There's nothing rated mature about the new mutants comics, for Fox to make a New Mutants as r rated as Deadpool/Logan. Unless they really want to turn the property into gore...

Nolan's batman films had people get blown up, stabbed, shot, hanged, burned alive, mauled by dogs and so on. You can get away with a lot depending on how you film things.

New mutants doesn't need a r rating.

You mean the same Uncanny X-men where Wolverine gets gutted by Magneto in the comics? Or did you mean that Uncanny X-men where Mystique is seen slitting Banshee's throat? Or *that* Uncanny X-men where Wolverine is seen crucified on some wooden X-shaped planks on the cover?

Nah...you probably read a different Uncanny X-men altogether.

All of those could easily pass the pg13 rating. And the New Mutants comicswere never a more adult oriented comic book to begin with.they are X-Men jr., X-Men lite. Just because Logan/Deadpool are successful, it doesn't mean every mutant film needs to be rated r. Also they have X-Force in the works. Whatever happened to having films being so different from one another if they all aim for rated r Violence?

I would want to see Anya Taylor Joy in the modern Magik costume someday.
And Maisie Williams interacting with Cable and X-Force as Banshee. Have you seen her latest action moves in GOT?

SPOILER ALERT:

That's an action star in the making!!

Hope they don't scrap the film :(

Maisie Williams Responds To New Mutants Reshoot Rumors

It's no secret that comic book movies are everywhere. With three shared universes currently producing new installments, there is no shortage of superheroic properties making their way to theaters. Because of this, critics fear "superhero fatigue" where the genre becomes so saturated that they blend together and become stale. In response, filmmakers are creating new and exciting superhero projects. Case in point: Josh Boone's The New Mutants, which will be a horror movie set within the X-Men universe. Fans are eager to see the blockbuster arrive in theaters, although it's recently been a number of months, leading to rumors that extensive reshoots are happening. But Maisie Williams has recently shot down those rumors, revealing she only has some ADR to do on the film. Regarding the rumors, she said:
I think everything you've just rattled off is just rumors. But we're releasing early next year and I'm properly excited. I've seen little parts of it and I've done a load of ADR for it and it's really exciting watching it all back. It feels a long while since we've done it, and I always enjoy going seeing little bits of it before it's released, so I'm looking forward to it coming out.
Arya Stark has spoken, and she's not mincing words. It looks like the rumors about New Mutants were untrue, and Maisie Williams is fairly removed from the project in general at this point.

Maisie Williams' comments address rumors of reshoots head on, which should help ease fans anxiety about The New Mutants. While the film's first trailer is outstanding and helped amp up excitement, Fox's adjusted release schedule threw a wrench into things. New Mutants was originally set to debut in a few months on April 13, 2018. But when the shuffle happened, the upcoming mutant-focused thriller ended up being delayed a year, arriving February 22, 2019. With almost a year in between dates, this led some fans to believe that extensive reshoots were happening, a la DC's Justice League. Other reports indicate that it was simply so the scary X-men movie wouldn't overlap at all with Deadpool 2.

Alas, Maisie Williams has shot down rumors, revealing she only has a bit of ADR left to do on the film before she's officially done with production. For those unfamiliar, ADR is basically voice over work that actors do during the film's editing process. This can help poor audio be fixed, and additional off camera lines can be added as well. But the Game of Thrones actress doesn't have any plans to return to set.

Fans are eager to see what Maisie Williams does with Wolfsbane, a mutant who transforms into a wolf. With Williams now a member of the X-Men universe, many Game of Thrones are hoping she crosses over and interact with Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. Seeing the two Stark girls kicking ass in a different property would be too much fun, so let's keep our fingers crossed that it happens.

The New Mutants will arrive in theaters February 22, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

I never thought about the turn around time for post production. 5 months is a short time to do quality VFX on what I'm sure was a pretty small budget.

I'm confused! First, Maisie said reshoots weren't happening and she said was only going to do ADR work, now, THR is reporting a new character may come into the film?:huh:

Doesn't mean she's a part of it. Could just be anyone of the cast besides Maisie. The structure of the film is probably based heavily around characters dealing with their traumas in visions, so additional photography to make the film scarier or to add another character - could be for a single character like Illyana versus a scene where everyone is involved.

The long delay just seems like a combo of a variety of factors from the crowded blockbuster schedule, overlapping international release dates, timing required in post and the actors' schedules. ATJ already has projects lined up this summer so there probably is not a huge amount of additional photography to be done - probably the usual amount on these films.

Not that crazy to imagine. She could be doing ADR and not have any scenes with the new character.
