The Dark Knight Nicholson on Ledger playing the Joker

I agree. If one can't convincingly do an accent, then one shouldn't even be acting.
A bit extreme don't you think (I'm sure you don't)?????

Vincent Cassel has an average caucasian accent in Eastern promises (not as convincing as Mortensen's one anyway) but he remains a good actor !:cwink: :cwink:

If you put in that much time to get a completely different accent down, and be able keep it the same for up to 8 or 9 months while filming, call me crazy but I think you deserve something a little extra for the dedication........something other than people saying "Oh yeah, I could totally do something like that"

It is a bit extreme, but you should be able to become whatever role you play: accent and all. If you can't do a proper accent effectively, it will limit you as an actor.

Limit you yeah...unless you dont need to use this kind of stuff in your carreer !:cwink: And being able to fake an accent is not THE criterion to be qualified as good actor methinks!

Why wouldn't you need this in your career? If you choose to speak in your natural accent your entire career, then you are limiting yourself to other possibilities. Acting is about diversity. Granted you can be diverse with a single accent but mastering the ability to use others greatens your potential for diversity.

Sean connery managed with his scottish russian and scottish spanish accent heh

You can be diverse without only sticking to the use of fake accent...c'mon ! I agree it's a plus, no way to diminish that...I'm just saying that NO it's not a criterion to be excluded from the acting community as you said ! You can be great without having this talent !

He even managed to be believable as Bond with his ****ing scot accent :woot: :cwink: which for some fans makes of him the less believable Bond from this point of view, Bond being meant to be a pure Brit !

well Bond has been played by an Australian, an Irishman, a Scot, alongside the English. I digress though, again :whatever:

But none of them had such a powerful, recognizable accent as Connery has !It never bothered me though...I love him !

Right and when you asked if I was being extreme I answered 'It is a bit extreme'. The original comment was sarcasm.

Sean Connery has basically played the same scottish rogue since his youthful days, but no one would dare say he has no range. So when I hear people say Denzel, Pacino, etc. don't have any range, it's idiocy.
