With the remake looking to top $35m this opening weekend, buzz from inside New Line Cinema is that a 3D sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street is already being discussed, while Platinum Dunes producer added more fuel to the fire via Twitter by adding that a sequel is "already in the works." A similar situation happened when Platinum Dune's reboot of Friday the 13th opened to $40m before dropping a whopping 80% the following weekend. And as we all know, New Line has yet to give the go ahead to that 3D sequel. With Iron Man 2 opening next weekend, I expect the same drop. All I know is that I want to see our horror icons live on and hope that New Line keeps Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger alive and well at whatever capacity. As of 8:45PM PST Saturday night, Elm Street has a average user rating of 3/5 skulls in the Bloody Disgusting database. Click here to post your review.

Lets just hope this doesn't end up like the ill fated F13 sequel which is semi- dead at the moment. Freddy and Jason need to live on forever.

*sigh*

I'd rather have the F13 sequel than this garbage again.

Well, hopefully I hope both of them happen and I didn't seem to find it garbage as you put it.

Interesting. 3D or not, I'm very happy we are getting a sequel.
But it still says nothing is official or greenlit yet. Guess they are waiting for next weekend total. Even know they made their budget this weekend.

3D would be great for this type of film......since it deals with the dream world/alternate reality.

BUT only if they actually make the dream sequences imaginative and crazy. This is a magical world so to speak, where anything is possible, and yet the remake did very little to show that. The possibilities are endless within the dream world, let's get creative, shall we?

And if they do a sequel PLEASE start an original story instead of just remaking the sequels!

Interesting that both film series already gone the 3-d route. The Freddy sequel should be really interesting because they could do anything with the dream world.

I don't care to see F13 part 2 in 3d but if that what it takes for them to make another , then so be it.

What don't execs get? these types of films never have lasting power. Just like F13 pretty everyone who will see the film already has over the 1st weekend.

Can't they wait untill at least the 2nd weekend to announce a sequel that will likely not happen?

Well I'd love a sequel but making it a crappy 3D movie is not needed.

Eh I love Freddy Krueger, but one thing i'm going to hate about this "3D sequel" is that all the jump scares are going to be in 3D and i friggan hate jump scares :(.

With the new movie, they COULD have completely revolutionized the franchise by turning into a suspenseful, Silence Of The Lambs type horror thriller about the sickest man ever and how a town took action against him. That didnt happen and they instead just went with a straight up remake.

With a 3D sequel, they could use the technology to really expand on the dream worlds that Freddie creates...just imagine The Cell in Imax 3D!!! Really unique and special things could be done. Instead, we will get a standard slasher film with jump scares and random objects flying out at the audience.

well if PD aren't going to do Friday the 13th Part 2, then they might as well just give us a Freddy vs Jason instead, and get straight to it.

They already killed off all their sequel potential, he can't spend the entire film just going after Nancy and Quentin. And all they kids from the school are dead save them.

Oh Please its not like Freddy can't go after other teens just because he doesn't know them.

If he starts going after random kids that didn't blame him or tell on him, does that not mean they are falling into the trappings of the sequels? At least with the original series it was ALL THE KIDS on Elm Street. Now he had a more clear motive for coming back in their dreams and killing them.

ehhh, not excited about this. Movie just came out this week, sheesh. Its what 3 years or so away?

I don't want a 3D Friday the 13th, but 3D would be perfect for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Exactly. The only real problem I've ever had with horror remakes is them wanting to do a whole new franchise based on that remake.
