Nolan is really super mad that JLA is being made!

People are idiots. It's a fact. But not everyone is as dim as suggested above.

There is no value in trying to always cater for the lowest common denominator ... that's how you get Batman and Robin (the film).

If most people can watch Smallville and Superman Returns without their heads explosing ("Where the hell is Lana and Chloe?!?!?!?!"), I think they can handle The Dark Knight and Justice League in the same year.

On the above supposition, TDK's use of the Joker will flip everyone out because it isn't Jack Nicholson and will (presumably) have a new origin for the Joker ... not to mention the fact that Batman Begins already established that the Joker wasn't responsible for the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. OMG!
And if little kids can figure out that batman from The Batman isnt the batman from JLU then adults should be fine

Well maybe then its just the people at my movie theater. They did start complaining when they realized Borat wasn't a documentary on the middle east(old people) and I once got a complaint from someone who said that one of the workers spoiled The Passion for them.

:wow: Those are some stupid people. Very stupid.

I sat in front of my keyboard for about a minute trying to think of a nicer way to say that, but that's really the only way to put it.

Word and amen. And like I've said a million times : if a couple of people get confused, so what? Are they really going to be so distracted and angry that they'll march out of the theatre and demand their money back, setting off a massive chain-reaction of bad word of mouth and bad publicity that will destroy the movie's box office performance and doom Chris Nolan and Christian Bale to obscurity and failure? Methinks not.

LOL, guess I couldn't decide between "Chris" or "Christopher" and when with "Christ" instead. Not unfitting, I suppose, since half the people here consider him to be their god. :p

My thoughts exactly. :woot:

Suck it Jesus, this movie is my god now!
(I stole that from Kathy Griffin)

Hopefully if the film does get off the ground and does start shooting in feb and all that it doesnt screw with us getting a batman 3 from nolan and bale.

geez, if you guys think that actors and directors are totally being honest and sincere during interviews you've got another thing coming.

Nolan was so majorly ticked off it was enough for Bale to decline the offer the could've made him as popular as Harrison Ford. but you can always trust Nolan to not air his dirty laundry in public so of course he's gonna sound "polite" even if he's seething angry.

Who cares if Nolan is mad or not anyway.......he's makin' TDK and that's all that matters. It won't change his films.

See Bryan Singer.

Exactly.

Oh come on, really? So now he said he didn't care...so he must be lying and is mad? I really don't see why he should be mad. I think people are making mountains out of mole hills and need to relax. Wait until there is actually something with him saying "I wont make Batman 3 because they made Justice League."

Just because he was quoted as taking a certain stance, doesn't mean that this stance represents his true feelings on the other hand he could really feel this way. The point is you know as much as we know. Unless you are Nolan's friend?

Yeah, but that doesn't mean we should automatically infer that there's more to Nolan's words than meets the eye.

As far as I see it, that argument could be made for anything. So unless Nolan openly expresses his distaste for the WB's process with JL, there's no legitimate grounds for you suggesting that he's actually angry.

I understand the argument some of you are saying re: Nolan's actual feelings about the JL project. But I don't buy it. Nolan has enough influence after the success of Begins to express at least some discomfort with it if it truly bothered him. There are no such expressions in the public so if it's rumor -- it appears to be groundless rumor.

Which is exactly my point!! We know nothing more than what he said so unless we have good reason to think otherwise, let's just take his words at face value.

why would he be mad? besides theyre not his movies, technically theyre WB's, he didnt even write them

you really understand the way an artist's mind works. im sure he feels no sense of ownership towards two films that he has spent years of his life working on.:whatever: not to mention bale and the rest of the cast.

now, i cant speak specifically for chris but i know alot of people on the production of the dark knight were annoyed and/or dissapointed with wb's decision to rush justice league into production. most feel as if it could do serious damage to other dc projects if its not well recieved. i also know jonah nolan has expressed some reservation. do you really think the nolans' are going to voice public outrage? they are proffesionals. despite the way some behave on here on the hype, unproductive *****ing and moaning does not equal maturity or professionalism. like i said its quite unproductive.

and on another note, im shocked by how many people around here actually think this movie is a good idea. im not even talking about any confusion this may cause with the public or the fact that a bunch of no name kids are playing the world's greatest heroes or the fact they are calling it "american heroes":hehe: . when is it ever a good idea to rush a film of this magnitude? does anyone think we will get a good product out of this? don't you think the justice league deserve better? what if the movie sucks or bombs? it will send shockwaves through all other dc productions. if wonder woman or flash are portrayed horribly do you think the general public will want to see a solo ww or flash movie? not to mention the taste of batman and robin and catwoman are just starting to come out our mouths. do you really trust the heads at wb to do what is best for these characters? they see a "sure thing" here and are just thinking of profits.

believe me i would love love love to see a truelly great and epic movie with all of these characters together. i just dont think this is going to be it. nothing, with the possible exception of maybe george miller directing, nothing about this movie looks promising. i really hope that the plug gets pulled on this fiasco before it goes any further.

:whatever: oh please, i AM an artist and i know how OUR minds work. please, dont be an ignorant fool and asume things that you dont know about. plus just because i draw a picture of batman, it doesnt mean that i have to get upset when someone else draws batman.

and i still dont understand how JL is going to affect Nolan's movies, theyre too DIFFERENT movies and the JL movie's success will NOT affect the Batman movies because Batman has already been proven to be successful.

That is the dumbest thing Ive ever read. Nolan shouldnt feel any sense of ownership over this character because its NOT HIS CHARACTER. Unless someone tries to change Batman Begins or The Dark Knight directly, then he has absolutely no basis to cry.

Batman has been around and done for years by tons of artists, actors and directors. The character isnt Nolans, he has no ownership rights to it. All he needs to do is make his version of Batman, stop worrying about what WB & DC does with THEIR property, and shut up.

why would he be mad? besides theyre not his movies, technically theyre WB's, he didnt even write them

did you say this or not? that is exactly the statement i was addressing. that is a foolhardy thing to say and belies how much you apparently dont know about filmaking.

and the second part isnt even accurate. chris nolan co wrote both stories and both screenplays bub.

you should temper yourself next time you call someone ignorant as it seems you are the one not in possesion of the facts.

–adjective 1.lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man. 2.lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics. 3.uninformed; unaware. 4.due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

i think #2 applies best here but the others are relevant as well.

If we took everything reported at face value or every quote at face value these forums would be a very boring place. :cwink:

Yeah, but that doesn't mean we should automatically infer that there's more to Nolan's words than meets the eye.

Doesn't mean we can't interpret or read into it, it's one's own choice too.

As far as I see it, that argument could be made for anything. So unless Nolan openly expresses his distaste for the WB's process with JL, there's no legitimate grounds for you suggesting that he's actually angry.

Of course it could, that is also one's choice.

I don't understand how you can say it is a groundless rumor if it is not expressed in public?

Your right and wrong. Yes Nolan doesn't get a real say...WB owns the rights. Legally he has no ownership. Artistically he does, No he did not create Batman but he did help create the Batman Begins version. It wasn't an original idea but it was an idea none the less. An idea he created and made possible. He still deserves credit...just as all the present comic book writers who are now writing Stan Lee's characters.

Its not like he directly copied something from somebody else...its not like he traced over the Mona Lisa he created an a new take on an old character.

wow. reading comprehension has really hit new lows around here. im only going to this one more time (only because its fun and so easy:cwink: )

please, read more carefully as to avoid any future misunderstandings.

i never said nolan owned batman or should feel any sense of ownership towards the character.

in addition i nor chris nolan have said anything about him having any sour grapes about justice league. as far as i know he has said nothing on record that hints at any perceived misgivings. you should really read posts more carefully and maybe read more than just the thread titles before commenting.

having said that it doesnt mean the WB shouldnt feel some sense of gratitude towards mr. nolan and the rest of the crew responsible for batman begins. regardless of your personal opinions about nolan and begins he gave warner bros. a movie that was not only successful at the box office, it was very well recieved by critics, the fanbase, and the general public. he showed that these characters can be made into viable films despite the one two punch of batman and robin and catwoman nearly dealt all dc on film projects impotent.

wb probably wouldnt even be going ahead with this project had begins and (to a lesser extent ) superman returns been complete failures.

WB could of have Bale for the JLA, but didn't since they felt to give Nolan a sense of gratitude for what he has done, so far.

Nolan is not the first director to show these characters can be made into good movies, and he will not be the last....

Guys I like Nolan, and what he has done for Mr. Wayne, but his opinion should not matter when it deals with future DC movies.

Come to think of it your right. If they were using Nolan's version of Batman for the JLA film then I think Nolan should have a say. Not a say like legally speaking but more in spouting off to the media sort of say.
