They are all excellent/great/good films but in my opinion The Avengers is the foundation of everything that came after, it made everything stand together from that point forward. Is the one that nailed all the character interactions and the big action without making it look like a Transformers nonsense. Part of what makes Civil War, Infinity War work so well was first explored in The Avengers. Nothing can take that away from Joss Whedon.

I missed the HYPE that year. I was only up for The Dark Knight Rises. I remember thinking "what's Marvel trying to do with these B-list superheroes". Oh boy, was I wrong I was blown away that it grossed more than any other superhero film prior.

It did show a lot of the film, but if you were on the Avengers forum back then, you remember how clueless we all were as to how it would play out. We didn't know who the guys on the "sky sleds" were, which led to much hilarious speculation. (One guy insisted that they were The High Evolutionary's Knights of Wundagore. )

Just as much of a spoil FFH is to End game. Many fans already knew a Spider-Man sequel was already in the works when he was dusted in Infinity War. News had already been broken about Iron Man 3 before Avengers May 2012 release.
