I can buy a guy in a bat suit NOT getting completely destroyed by the mafia, I can buy a focused. microwave emitter.

Granted, I think Nolan made me by it by saying focused microwaves to vaporize.

And ya I did forget about that. And I'm sure he will have science to back the earthquake machine, there is the science behind it and some of the tech, its just not fully achievable yet. To me if it serves the purpose of wrecking Gotham possibly and giving Bane the ability for him and his Militant to control parts of Gotham, which may be the case, I'm all for it.

EDIT: And Nolan does like to explain things with science, some of it may for sure be stretched science, but interesting none the less.

Are we even sure it's an earthquake generator thing? Didn't the production crew just call it a bomb?

I'm still trying to determine how an earthquake machine would cause explosions on a football field.

I myself am more interested in just what sort of advantage Bane would get from using the oscillator.

I thought someone there said it was, maybe. But I figured with the tear in the earth at the stadium? That is not very bomb like it seems.

Maybe it's a mini-nuke? Nukes create craters right?

ugh double post again...

It will be interesting to see how they go about it, if they do destroy a big chunk of the city with the possibility of destroying a lot of infrastructure then it should be interesting how his crew takes advantage of it. It does seem they may use a bomb to threaten Gotham to keep in his power. Which is what Bane wants, he does not want Gotham destroyed per se, he just wants it as his own almost.

Not like that though. If it was a mini-nuke there would be no grass on the part sunk in lol, it would be much worse than that. It would be more circular and much more damage.

Yeah, I dunno. Just thinking of other possibilities.

Well they are calling the truck that is transporting it the bombtruck, but the Batwing is shooting at it and hits it in one of the vids, I don't think Batman would shoot at a crate with a bomb in it.

There's always a chance it's a bomb.

But...since they used it at the stadium, it wouldn't exist anymore if it was a bomb.

Also, judging from the type of damage at the stadium, it's not very "explosion" looking. It LOOKS like an earthquake happened there.

So, judging from the fact that Bane is able to use this thing more than once and based on the type of damage it inflicts, we can safely assume that it is NOT in fact a bomb, but more so an "earthquake machine."

Elementary my dear Watson.

And that is completely fine. I mean its all speculation. To me just because there are some elements from Begins in it does not make it a re-hash. Just as much as using Batman again to save Gotham again, as is most of his stories is not bad if there are many other themes and variables to the equation.

I mean if the doomsday device =3 and the Al Ghul's= 4 You can have an infinite amount of equations that will not look anything like the other or have the same values. I know using math is lame. But its the way it is. They rehashed using the MJ in peril plot and the same Peter can't quite get MJ thing. And yet it felt different and great in film.

Nolan who created Inception and many other superb films I'm sure won't have a complete re-hash by any means. It does seem that he wants to bring the it full circle as Oldman said back in March, but that is more on a thematic level. There is just so many different things in this movie as well, Catwoman, Bane, and the events of TDK alone just really shake things up where to me it will be impossible to really feel like a re-hash.

And just being so in the dark on this film compared to TDK or BB, it's harder to speculate too. There is just so many possibilities to where the plot will go.

Nolan's much touted "realism" was always a big eye-rolling facade to me. Go back to watching Insomnia for his last actual attempt at realism. "...priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories." Believability is a more apt term...making fantasy believable. When you have The Incredible Hulk fighting his cloud father or whatever happened at the end of that Ang Lee film, it's the total opposite of that. I understand fans wanting to get away from the Joel Schumacher crap as well, he just treated Batman like a big joke that never left the 1960s TV show.

I have no problem with the microwave weapon and earthquake generators so long as it serves the story. It's a comic book film, a Batman one at that. It's not a documentary...and some documentaries often play loose with the facts anyway.

Almost all film as you said, including documentaries (which I've said much) are not really realistic. But the term realism is used I think by most in the context of being in film and being in a comic book film none the less. These things are plausible, the tech is possible/near future possible. And that is what gives the element of feeling realistic even though it is not. It's more plausible and possible, not reality as we know it, or reality as it is now.

It's never been about realism. This whole "realism" thing has been invented by trolls to put down Nolan's movies.

It's ALWAYS been about "realistic fantasy." Even from Nolan as far back as Begins has said that.

Their is a conspiracy theory out there that says HAARP controls the weather with some type of machine. Its crazy but I guess maybe Nolan got the idea from that.

Great post, you beat me to it! HAARP supposedly heats the ionosphere. I have no idea what the real purpose of it is, but conspiracy theorists typically like to blame everything on HAARP. Listen to Coast to Coast Am sometime or visit Above Top Secret and somebody will eventually bring it up.

Exactly!!! Nolan has always said that he wanted his films wanted to be set in a more realistic world, but still have have that fantasy element that goes with superhero movies, just not to the extent like other movies.

And HAARP supposedly caused the tsunami, earthquake, and subsequent nuclear disaster in Japan.

Im just hoping this isnt like Hangover 2...copy and paste sequel of the first film

I starting to wonder if Bane might have a different agenda than LOS and Talia. If the goal was to start an earthquake in Gotham, why go through all the trouble of talking to the prisoners and tearing up the picture of Harvey Dent? It would seem at that point that Bane intends to earn the respect of the prisoners... only to have them perish in an earthquake?

Heh. People showing up thinking this is The Dark Knight Part 2: "Where's The Joker and Harvey Dent?" :argh: LOL and they wind up getting Batman Begins 2: Catwoman Begins.
