Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

I just realised that i will be facing Phaed yet again with Pluto......oh man :( ;)

Yes. I'm hoping the old adage holds true: Third times a charm! At least you're used to what my strategy is going to be.

I know, hey how about making the location mt olympus or hades for a change???

You did use the Baxter Building, Asgard, and the Avenger's mansion after all. ;) :D

Hey, since most of you all are nerds who love fantasy books. What's the best way to get rid of a collection? I've got the entire Harry Potter series including Order of the Phoenix, but not the last two books. I was thinking ebay, but I'm not sure how much my books should go for, or if that's the best option.

Problem is that those books are still in print and very easy to get. You'd probably have to sell at a big loss to get rid of them, especially with shipping, and if they're not in perfect condition.

True, I just hate having things sitting around, and I don't have the heart to pawn these off on some family member.

I find the best way to get rid of books that won't be worth much anywhere is donate them to Goodwill or something; that way, you can also use your donations as tax credits next year. Around us, we have 1/2 price books; but, there are probably a ton of those books around. (The exception would be if you had first prints, especially of the first two books. Those could get you some cash, probably.)

I didn't know that! Me like tax credit. :)

Yeah, most of these places give you receipts for any donations. The only thing is nothing I've ever donated effected my taxes. I guess you have to donate a whole lot of stuff in order for that to work.

I guess I should let you guys know that Hippy did contact me about the time I started voting this week. He wanted to apologize for not being able to debate, as he's very, very busy with work and all. I'm sure we'll see him drop by every once in a while; but, if you're wondering where he's disappeared to, now ya know.

Figure I'd repost the location list; so, you guys can start thinking about your next matches:

1) Avalon - Not populated
2) Hell's Kitchen - populated
3) Hydro-Base - not populated
4) Providence - not populated
5) Stamford - (Before events in Civil War.) - populated
6) Stark Tower - not populated

Normally, everyone would be at Hydro-Base fighting; but, we needed the new location for the rematches. The question is do we continue with Hydro-base, and the two characters who advance lose all memory of their rematch after completing; or, do we just move on to Providence.

As I have a rematch this week, I'm going to let Wiegeabo and JH make the decision on this. I'll PM them this post, and we should have a decision by the time the rematches are complete.

I say move on. Even if it doesn't give our characters an advantage, it may give us an advantage using a location a second time (because of stuff that may show up during arguments).

If we don't have the next contests be in the Hydro-Base, that means we have to come up with one final location for the ending battle. We only have four rounds left to go after the rematches, if I figured correctly.

Week 1: Each bracket will have it's final match to determine the winner of each bracket.

Week 2: Bracket 1 vs. B.2; B.3 vs. B4; B5 vs. B6; B7 vs. B8

Week 3: First match vs. second match; third match vs. fourth match

Week 4: First match vs. Second match

So, it would seem like the last week could very well be the week Harlekin goes on vacation. There is a chance we could still finish in time. As week 2 will only have eight characters, the contestants might be able to get debates finished early and both agree they've said their peace. Same with week 3.

The other thing would be if Harlekin actually doesn't have a character in the final two. He still has quite a few good characters left; so, he does stand a chance of being there in the end; but, if you don't, Harlekin, would you be able to get to a computer on your vacation to at least give your vote and read the one debate?

For me, I have only one...maybe two characters that could make it to the end. Belasco is my best choice, obviously. If Iron Man survives this rematch, then I think he's my only other possibility.

We might need more locations if there are more rematches necessary.

Yeah, move on with the location to Providence. I agree with what W was saying above.

As for a new location... here's some that I can think of that we haven't used

Earth X - Populated for a very dangerous location. Everyone has powers, so you have to be careful how you do your battle. Or even during the final battle of Earth X, with a war between Galactus and the Celestrials over New York City.

The Hostel- The Runaways base that was a mansion that was buried underground in the past.

Planet Thanos - Yeah, I don't rememer what it was called, but the little planet base thing that Thanos created in the Infinity Gauntlet.

The Howlett Estate - Wolverine's home from "Origins"

Avengers Mansion - Post Decimation (all destroied and such)

Have we used the Maestro's trophie room from Future Imperfect before?

Chances are very very slim. I'll be travelling from Moscow through Mongolia to Beijing, so I'm basically cut off from the rest of the world for those two weeks. No phone, no e-mail, not anything. I kinda like it.

How come all those locations are being used but locations like Olympus and Hades are not. I understand Hades not allowed, but Olympus? Asgaqrd was used earlier.

Next season we should get something like fifty locations together. Then just randomly put them in an order and go straight down the list.

All three of these are very good. I'm just going to keep them in this order, if we need locations for rematches. So, if there are no rematches, The Hostel will be the final location.

Sorry I couldn't get my debates in this week guys but I had an insanely busy week at work. Got some big proposals done and dusted but sadly my characters are gone (and rightly so by the no debate rule). I've really enjoyed this and if my schedules frees up in time for the next season you can count me in! (but I think i'd need more time as playing half assed towards the end kind of soured it for me :() Thank you to you all for great debates and rest assured I'll be voting right through to the finals.

On that note I'm off to watch "they live" :D

Roddy Piper

Dang, I'm finding getting a great deal on Epic Illustrated is really tough. A lot of people sell them individually; and I'm thinking that might be cheaper than getting a large set all together.

Anyway, we just got back from Ratattoui, or however you spell it. Pretty good movie. I still enjoyed Surf's Up more. (A lot of people will probably like the Pixar movie better, though.) Transformers is next, coming out tomorrow, right? Yep, looks like there will be two showings at my local theaters: 8:00 and 11:50 pm. I should go down and buy my tickets today, as that will probably sell out.

Just got back from Die Hard. Good flick. Was happier with it than I though I was going to be. And he does say "Yippie Kay-ay..." :D!

The only thing missing was the famous Die Hard music. Of course that wasn't in the third one either until the credits. So it was probably in these credits too (we didn't stick around. Hope there wasn't an extra scene at the end.)

And the only weird thing was John with no hair. I found myself a few times wishing Bruce had frown back the old hairstyle. He just looked a little...off as John.

I still cannot believe that the M's manager up and quit yesterday. We're the hottest team in baseball right now, having won 8 in a row, including sweeping the Soxs. I'm really hoping this doesn't disrupt the team at all.

On another note, I just read a review of Transformers, and it said it's the ultimate boy summer movie. I can't wait! Hopefully when I get off work, there will still be some tickets available for the 8:00 show.
