Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Ok, guys. I'll give you this one chance. Before I own you all, if you can all agree that I'm going to whip each and everyone of your butts, we can just end this contest now and declare me the winner. And, since you all are going to be losers, maybe I'll send each of you a copy of a Youngblood comic to wipe your tears with.
Deal

Just send the comic first. :yay:

"storyline" time, there is no limit. The characters can be fighting for years. It ends when one person dies, is knocked out, or is removed from the playing field.
Thanks for clarifying that.

And I don't think we've said an exact time when the match begins but I've always pictured it as when the sun comes up, starting the new day.

Ok, I saw where the factor of time is taken into account for this week. As there wasn't a ruling before the contest started about what time contests start, I will make some executive decisions when applicable. The battle in question is Topher vs. Gladiator II. Now, we clearly cannot have the rule where ever battle begins at 9 AM; because, that would make Topher as useless as Beak. So, the person with God-like powers who is running this contest clearly would not drop Topher into a setting, having him die right off the bat due to the effects of the sun. The contest will start at 12:00 AM. (I chose this time for two reasons...it gives Zoken a chance to fight his battle, but also doesn't give him all night to achieve what he needs. Basically, he has 6 hours to work with. I believe this is a fair ruling for both parties.)

If there are any complaints to this ruling, feel free to voice your opinions. Next season, if we decide on having times of day during each week, then it's a rule that cannot be effected. (And, we'd probably eliminate any vampire from the contest.)
Timing is obviously crucial to the Topher match but I'll accept whatever is decided. Is 12am the final decision?

I was actually just thinking this week that we never mention a time of day the fights start. I was thinking of adding that to the matches; for, a match at 12:00 am is quite different from a match at 12:00 pm.

Anyone have any thoughts if they'd like this or not?
A useful addition but probably best to start from next season as noone would have chosen a vampire knowing that they would eventually have to face a daytime scenario.

As for the comparison (above), I have Fabian Cortez in my ranks who will be even more useless than Beak against any non mutants :( :( :(

By the way, many thanks to WOLVERINE25TH for the Excel list.

Boy, after Friday, I haven't had a thing to do. I've spent this slow day watching the Seahawks lose for the second week in a row, and then I figured it couldn't get worse, and started to sort through all of my comic boxes. I've only bagged about 300 comics so far. I need to pay someone to keep this crap organized.

I had to work today, but was asked if I wanted to leave early so we could cut hours. Being that I worked until 11:00 last night, and went back in at 7:00, I jumped on the idea. Came home, did some rebuttals, and took a nap. I'm now awake and bored, so I'm thinking of going downstairs in a bit and mocking my children in some fashion and then blame their mother.

Actually, I have been thinking of something that I may start to work on. I'm thinking of creating another Hype game. I'd like to create some type of mystery that other people join and try to solve, something like a murder mansion type of thing, or Clue. I thought about having it over in Community and just having it normal, but then I thought it'd be cool to make it some type of Marvel deal where everyone who plays is a certain character and depending on the character, they can figure out certain things differantly and some people can do somethings and finds clues that others can't... etc. It'd be set in the Marvel Universe and you'll come accross other characters and such. If someone wants to jump into the game, or if someone wants out, I can write the into and out of the story and make it a part of the larger picture, etc. It could be fun, or just horribly over complicated.

It's still in early thought phases, and it may not go anywhere, but we'll see.

When I first joined the boards, the was a murder mystery game that was pretty fun. A bunch of Marvel characters in a mansion. Each week a character would be killed off (and a little of the story advanced). Based on the clues, everyone would guess who the killer is, how they killed the latesest person (I think) and who would be next. And there was a poll, but I can't remember if it was for who the killer is, whose the next to die, or if the winner of the poll would be the next to die (I sort of remember it being an adaptive game that changed based on the votes). Unfortunately, it died out about halfway through.

That would be cool to do again.

Not bad, but mine would be more indepth. It'll probably be a kind of mixure between game, and rpg... as that's how it's coming accross in my head. I already have the base mystery idea, but I'm debating on going with it, as I mentioned parts of it to some of the Marvel RPG people a few months back when I was debating on playing the mystery out there. I only told about two people bits of it, but I'll probably end up changing some to make it okay. I haven't exactly though of a way to do it, but it'll probably be something along the lines of this:

1) The central players will be in the X-Factor Investigation Agency, and the mystery begins with their newest case. It will start simple, but will evolve over time. The players will be real Marvel characters, some heroes, some normal people, some villains. I'll basically guide the game and storyline as the players try to basically solve the mystery as if they are part of X-Factor. They may work together with the clues I give them, and they may have open oppertunity to do as they like to learn them. If, say, Phaed was playing, and he was, say, Cyclops. He could figure out a clue that led him to someone with money. He could tell me that he then decides to search out rich people, and I would play along with him as the people that he's interviewing, such as Xavier, Tony Stark, etc. If he wants it out in the open, then we'll due it on the boards, but if not, then over PM's, and he could choose to share what he learns with everyone else, or keep them to himself. Each day I'd due a new post kinda updating the game and giving more clues for people to search after, or find, to bring them closer to the grander scheme of things. If, say, Trigger joined and a few weeks in decides to not play anymore, then she would let me know and I'd find a way to write her character out of the story in a way that further's the mystery, etc.

As I said, early processes here. Just thinking.

That sounds really neat, JH. I know it's nothing like it, but I've probably been to about 4 Host A Murder type parties, and they are always a bunch of fun.

Right now, I have 2 full comic boxes still I want to bag. (I went to the comic store this weekend and bought 1900 comic bags, and three large comic boxes.) One day, I will be finished with all my bagging; but, I think I will still have about 5,000 more comics to go. I really should bag my comics as soon as I finish them.

So, did anyone see Saw III?ll I was debating seeing it, but don't know anyone who's gone yet. I watched Slither on DVD, which was corny, but alright. Watched Monster House again on DVD with the kids. At least Amazing Race is on tonight.

I hosted one at church once (well, it was a kidnapping, as we were'nt allowed to do murder) and it was a lot of fun. Then I wrote a large mystery in the Marvel RPG a few seasons ago and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I've had a hankering to do another, so we'll see if it happens.

I miss comics :( I haven't bought a comic in 6 months. It felt good to finally be able to buy some trades on ebay yesterday, though they're probably the last for another couple months. :( again

Can't stand scary movies  However, my mom gets a free rental of Monster House in a few days, so I look forward to watching that one

I like a good scary movie. I generally stay away from the straight "hacker/slasher" ones, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don't like my monsters to be just psychos who like to kill older teens who get lost in the country.

You'll like Monster House. It was possibly my favorite movie of last summer. It's too scary for real young kids, as some had to leave the theater I was in. But, it's got great humor, too.

Ok, 24 Hours Left To Debate!!!

Well, my 2 year old loves the Jurassic Park movies. Can she handle it?

I've just seen Hippy's epic novel of a response :cmad: The last thing anyone wants to see (Hippy) in the morning. :csad:

I'll respond asap before calling it a day for this week's debates:up:

Damn Hippies :cmad: :yay:

Yeah, hate to say but I'm probably not going to bother rebutting your argument. It's kinda late and I've got to study.

I have stopped debating so I will let your last argument lie as it is...

No probs. Sorry for the lateness.

Since there have been a few last minute debates, I won't start voting for another couple of hours. If you have something to say, now's your chance.

If I may ask what is the rule on a battle for which the opponent puts a write up last minute while the other is unaware?

Basically, there is no rule. Everyone knows when debating ends...and, if someone put up a last minute rebuttal, there really isn't much to do about it; except when I extend debating for a while longer. Like I said last week, during Season 1 we allowed debating to continue throughout voting; but, that was even worse. People would vote...someone would put up a rebuttal...the person who voted was upset, because he wanted to change his/her vote, the person who didn't realize that their opponent put up a debate after voting started was upset because they believed they got some votes after that rebuttal that got them votes...it was just more of a big mess. With the way we currently have it, everyone knows there is a ending time to the debates. AND, usually by this time, everyone should have made their points, and rebuttals are just repeating what you've said before.

To sum it all up, we know it's not perfect, but it really is the best that we can offer.

Sorry I was just asking is I have one battle which my opponent has not posted anything. So as I will be logging off soon, I probably will not be able to rebut whatever he does write. But that is the way it goes...and as you say no rules can cover every situation perfectly.

Thanks for the quick response though

No problem. In one hour, I'll start voting. (BTW, I think I have the same person I've been waiting for a possible rebuttal from since my Friday posting.)

Sorry for the late debates. I am probably the most guilty of doing this, this week. I wasn't going to respond at all due to lack of time but changed my mind this morning as I read through everything. I'm finished now though and I refuse to get drawn into anything further :yay:

Happy Halloween!! So I couldn't get up money to buy myself a costume, but my 2 year old daughter is going to be a blue care bear, and my 8 month old daughter is going to be a pumpkin. We're going to get together with about 4 pairs of friends and their kids and we're all going trick-or-treating together around my neighborhood.

So what are you guys doing with your halloween?

Well, the kids always hang out with the ex, and they will go over to her parents neighborhood to do their trick-or-treating. (She's always taken the kids out; so, even though our divorce agreement says we switch, I know tradition is important.)

For me, I'll hang out at the house and pass out the treats. We only get about 10 kids, and they will get to choose between a variety of regular size candy bars. (We bought the Costco packs of Nestle and Hershey candy bars. We get so few kids, we just let them have a normal size bar, not the "fun size.") Then, the first 8 kids will get a "free frosty" coupon from Wendy's, and each kid will also get a free comic book.

BTW, Wendy is Supergirl and Kevin is Darth Vader. I'm just me.:woot:

Holy crap... you're like THE HOUSE to be at! I never got a comic book in my candy bag! Also, letting your ex-wife have them for tradition sake says a lot as well. Way to be a man

IMPORTANT QUESTION:

Man, it's taking me over an hour to read all the debates this week! Anyway, I have a question I need answered. Do Vampires in the Marvel 616 have to be invited into a house to gain access? I know this is an old rule of the vampire world...but, don't know if this applies to Topher. Does anyone know???

No, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't apply. I think it's been a back and forth thing in Marvel for years, but mostly it's a no. I say no.
