Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

This was answered in the first round by Phaedrus. I dug through all th eold posts and here's the post (it's on page 50 I think of this thread).

So unless this has changed it's half-moon. I'll take Phaed's old ruling as of now (no offense intended Wiegeabo) until Phaed says otherwise if that's okay.
Dude you're guy is stacked and you won't even let me have a full moon?

Selfish:o :p

Drum roll please....

JewishHobbit = Gamesmaster, Doctor Octopus
Darthphere = Firelord, Morg
Harlekin = Baron Mordo, Blob
DarkHellRider = Monet St. Croix, Death's Head II
Primemover = Baron Karza
Zoken = Goblin Queen
Phaedrus45 = Super Skrull
Hippy Fascist = Paibok The Power Skrull
Hellstormer = Drax The Destroyer
Ahura Mazda = Vargas
Kytrigger = Air-Walker
Wiegeabo = Clea
Midnight Ice = War

I made it back from Kuwait. I will give you guys a run down as I think it was quite interesting and for the business people out there it can be informative. I am again flying out tomorrow morning to go to Cannes. So I will try and log on once again tonight to see if I can rebut anything else but after that I doubt I will be logging on too much at least until Friday.

Regarding I/P's list, hmm seems I did not do very well given I do not know much about Vargas. I so much wanted Drax :(

Yeah, it will only be a half-moon. The reasoning behind this is actually pretty valid. A participant can easily debate by having the match happen at night restricts their character's full potential; as, everyone else gets to fight at 12:00 in the afternoon. Fighting at night is beneficial for Moon Knight; but, for those who fight better in the daylight, it's not. It would be very unfair to say every time Moon Knight fights it's a full moon. Just having it be night is probably putting many fighters at a disadvantage to those who work better in this environment.

Actually the moon is out during the day and it wouldn't make a difference.

Just wanted to talk about everyone's Opening Debate. I've read through two of the threads for voting, and noticed that people are referring to their opponent's debate in their opening debates. Remember, an opening debate is suppose to be your opening argument before you even look at what your opponent has to say. Ideally, everyone shouldn't even read what their opponent has to say before making their opening statement. (I know this is tough to do. For me, I'll see if they've made an opening debate, but I won't read it until I put in my opening argument.)

Doesn't voting normally start later? I was totally wanting to rebut the Power Princess thing and get in a quick Growing Man/Ultron debate. Damnit. I just got home.

With the new schedule, we get the extra day, but it isn't beneficial to delay voting until 12:00 PST. We want to make sure we have the two full days for voting, and we wouldn't have that if we delayed debates on Wednesday.

It's a little jarring initially but I think it's a good thing as it forces us to stick to regimented time-frames for each section. This guarantees that every debator gets the same ammount of time each week. i've been guilty of late debates myself but I'm actually in favour of the set cut off point. In recent weeks I did find myself putting things off and then sticking in a late debate which only served to delay things more. :(

Another reminder. We are not allowed to comment on our own matches when we are voting. I've been noticing some comments recently which are tending towards going against this rule that we set up. Basically, when you vote for your own match, there should only be the name you are voting for.

can I get a judges clarification on something?

My last few debates the subject of "it's not in ...'s nature to kill therefore he wouldn't"

To me this is a pointless argument, fact of the matter is that 99.99% of people this would apply to, if faced with a choice between their death and that of an "evil" character would choose lethal force.

I'm sure weig mentioned that these were to be considered battles to the death and that the contestants were unaware they were in a contest at some point...

It just seems to me that this acts to handicap EVERY "good" character in the tournament.

anyway, thoughts?

Yeah, I hate that argument really, because truth is, to beat someone, you dont have to kill them.

IMO, characters may not want to kill, and may be limited by the fact that they try their hardest not to kill. But unless it's in their nature to never ever kill (would rather sacrifice themselves then do it), then it should be possible for them to cross that line.

Problem is, it may take some characters so much pushing to get to that point that they're too far gone and the fight is already lost.

It's a catch-22 when you choose between the good guys or the bad guys. (Although, some bad guys have the same trait of "thou shalt not kill.") I think it kind of balances things out in the end. If you choose a good guy, it's very likely he will not kill. If you choose a bad guy, you will have an abunance of instances where he/she has been defeated.

In the end, all things that happen to your characters, whether physically or mentally, is fair game. It's the make-up of your character, and it must be considered in dealing with each match.

Yeah, I cant agree to that. Its an unfair adavtage IMO if you have a character like Spider-Man against Green goblin for example and have two awesome debates, but the edge goes to GG because he went all the way and killed him while Spider-Man didn't, which he wouldnt. Battling to death sounds cool, but its just not realistic.

So do I have to edit those out?

I never liked this rule either. I dont see the problem with a little cheerleading as long as its not actual debating and rebuttals being presented.

Like a "Vote for Spider-Man!", how does that hurt anyone?

I'll allow it this week, considering it's against one of my characters.

This was a major problem last season. A person would have their debate finished, and that person gave it their all. Then, an opponent would make a final plea, sometimes begging for the votes to go their way. Then, the votes did seem to switch.

Yeah, last season it was a problem. It's just not worth the hassle. Get everything you need to say out in the open during debate time.

Just wanted to comment that I was guilty of this this week. I didn't think and made a mention of Ahura's opening debate in my opening debate. It was kind of a slip, but a mention none the less. So as co-leader of the CoM, I felt I should apologize to Ahura and everyone else for it. My apologies.

And I'm so stoked. I just found out that I got a position at my Home Depot store that I was hoping for, giving me not only a set schedual (monday through friday 8-5), but the same schedual as my wife (who also works at my store). So this saves us so much on gas money (one car), on time, and it gives me a personal life again! It starts here in about 2 weeks. And I also have an official title "Deliveries Will-Call Coordinator" or something along those lines, we just call it the "DWCC". I'm special :)
