Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

again, sorry about the lateness but we're moving offices at the moment at work which basically equates to shed loads of heavy lifting, desks etc. I was just too tired to debate thi weekend. I am now however going to attempt 2 simultaneous debates, so gentlemen, start your engines! :)

One thing to note in response to Phaed's paragraph on resources, scans from the actual comics are far and away the best resource, as Phaed said, but those scans in context are better. I notice sometimes I post a single page but without a setup things can't be understood, and many times characters are altered by some plot point, to be either stronger or weaker, so that needs to be noted.

For instance when The Wrecker knocked Thor on his ass, it's important to understand that Thor at the time was half-powered.

Also Phaed, can I pry my next week matches from you asap, if I have any. I am afraid of a 5 match week and I want as much time to get prepared as possible.

Your match for next week (if I got them all):

BRACKET 2:
Shard-Hologram(JEWISHHOBBIT) vs. Guardian-Mac Hudson(PRIME)
Scarlet Witch(AHURA MAZDA) vs. Baron Karza(PRIME)

Thanks . . oh wait, Baron Karza, NO THANKS!

ooh, mine too! :D

BRACKET 1:
Banshee(HIPPY) vs. Hannibal King(HELLSTORMER)

BRACKET 4:
Morg(DARTHPHERE) vs. Elektra(HIPPY)

BRACKET 5:
Ronin(HIPPY) vs. Warlock-Mtech(WIEGEABO)

BRACKET 6:
Nuke(HIPPY) vs. Red Ghost(MIDNIGHT ICE)

BRACKET 7:
Morlun(HIPPY) vs. Junkpile(KYTRIGGER)

Don't even worry about the Ronin fight. No need to waste your time and energy.

All you had to do was lose more in the first round. Then you wouldn't be having this problem. :p

indeed, all I need is my four core characters though. They will each be taking a place in the final and I'll just pick which one I like the best :p

Banshee ... nope

Elektra ... nope

Ronin ... nope

Nuke ... nope

Morlun ... a possible chance

So, with this next week's list of characters, I only see one that could be considered on of your four core characters. Banshee, Elektra, Ronin and Nuke are not going to be happy to hear they are expendable!

my four characters could take on all five of this week's opponents single handed! :cmad:

Not on my watch :cmad:

In regards to the editing of profiles... I understand the way it was done this week, but we were very adamant in previous conversations in regards to how wrong it is. The point has been made, (and made well as I didn't know about that website myself) but there is no longer any reason to change any website information. If this is done again (as we all are now aware of the rule), it will result in an immediate removal from the game. No harm no fowl thus far, but let's not make a problem of it. And if there has been any changing of websites, let's make sure it gets changed back to how it was before any of us catch it. Don't want you to get in trouble for something done previous to this post.

Now in regards to some of Phaed's earliest statements, I agree with most all he says. The best resource for you to use is real comicbook appearances (in context, as Prime said). After that there's the most reliable websites (and we should set up a list of those by the way), though even the most reliable websites can have flaws, so if any comic appearance contradicts the bio, the comic will probably trump the bio. Editable websites, like Wiki, are good resources as well, I use them often, but remember that places like that are more likely to be misrepresented, and we must remember that their bios may not be scripture here. Also, the Marvel Handbooks are almost top notch resources, again, provided they don't contradict the comic book appearances.

And when it's all said and done, it's down to the debating and voting. That's the fun of the game, have fun with it.

Okay, last thing... Belasco. While I agree that he's one of the Tubers who got through, it's already round 2 and if we should have removed him it should have been last round. If we remove him now then we'll have to replace him with someone who didn't deserve to be here to begin with, let alone in the second round. Not only that, but I'm still on the fence about many of the uber magic users, and I'd rather not open the can of worms about getting rid of characters. We put them through, let them play. We'll sort it out next season.

And that's my take on all that. I'm great.

I admit I changed the bio for Man-Thing on the marvel.com website to match the wiki that you said to use for the comp. I didn't give him any extra powers I just changed the effects needed for the powers that I believe are the correct ones, I have the comics and Man-Thing has ton of appearences that I don't wanna go through.

EDIT; Here's a bio that shares similarities with the wiki (actually its word for word) and it can't be edited by the general public. All the bios I have seen that said he needs the swamp or only fear causes the acid are editable so here's one that doesn't.

Consider putting the bio for this character in particular maybe?

The marvel.com wiki was word for word from the actual, published by marvel, handbook from 2005, you went and changed that data based on what you 'think' you remember from comics you have read in the past and yet don't care to backup by double checking.

Look for yourself:

Now here is the Marvel.com bio

And again, I DID back this up with hours of research of actually reading and scouring through dozens of comics, and in the case of the corrosive ooze not ONCE did the ooze come out from any other emotion but fear. In fact the comic says it every time this event happens.

I did the research too, Blaze #2 a whole bunch of what I was talking bout.

This seems like it was the hardest week of the season to vote. A number of the matches were just so hard to decide. I kept going back and forth and back and forth and sideways.

I'm almost scared to see what the next round will be like.

Hey guys, just to let you know, I am moving tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to get my debates up until Saturday.

Now I'm wondering if whether a character is circumsized could play a part in my upcoming debates.

(Hulk whips out his uncircumsized penis, bringing shock and awe to his opponent, leaving him/her open to the devestating blow to ***...errrr...come.)

I think the Hulk whipping it out, one way or the other, would shock and awe his opponent. :hulk: :wow:

Hmm I did not think of that strategy but somehow it could work especially with some of the ladies in play in this game ..... ;)
