There will be no starfish. A coalition of marketing gurus has met, conducted extensive focus groups, and come to the conclusion that starfish are no longer cool. Even if they're from space and can control your mind. Modern audiences demand more rock dudes in skirts. :o

To be fair, the only time that Starro was cool was in R.E.B.E.L.S.

I have no idea who/what Starro is..........:o

SO, uh....how bout that Jim Lee huh? lol Am I the only one who wasn't impressed with the art? I mean don't get me wrong, it was good but it was nowhere near All Star Batman and Robin levels...and it PAINS me to say that because that book was absolute dogs***. Although that last page was pretty badass with Supes.

Jim Lee's art isn't technically bad, but it invokes such a 90's vibe that it feels old nowadays.

Raven, Starro is an alien starfish that can spawn thousands of tiny parasitic versions of himself that attach themselves to people's faces and takes over their minds.

thanks........

even though that is a creepy mental image.........

It is, but Starro is one of those characters that is basically distilled comics.

Like all the awesome ridiculous corniness that gives superhero comics its charm boiled down into one single character. Characters like Gorilla Grodd, Doctor Dinosaur, M.O.D.O.K., etc.

Don't forget Mister Mind!

ahh......I see........thanks.

Just thought I'd stop in and throw down my 2 cents for all that they are worth (2 cents apparently).

I've been a fair weather comic book fan off and on for about 10 years, I love the idea of superheroes, super hero movies, super hero games etc.

It wasn't until about a year ago that I actually got into the comic books themselves due to a friend at work telling me I should read Blackest Night. I did that, read Brightest day and then for the first time ever went out and bought comics in the form of Flashpoint (All of them). I was hooked and the idea of the titles starting from one just sounded like an opportunity that was to good to pass up.

For me Justice League #1 was a great launching period, I really liked the back and forth between Batman and GL. My only concern is the way the characters seem to have been written, Batman is confident and judgmental to the point of being a *****e, Green Lantern is cocky to the point of being a *****e and from the two lines of dialogue Superman seems to buy into his own hype to the point of being a *****e..... does this mean we are getting a Justice League full of *****es with Cyborg playing the downtrodden nice guy?

(On a side note I think I registered like 3 weeks ago but only got the nerve up to post now, you guys all seem so comfortable with each other, like locals in a bar and now I'm the new guy, wearing the shirt that's far too tight.)

So I assume I'm late to the party when it comes to this observation??

At least I'm not the only one seeing it, that being said it doesn't have to be a bad thing, TBH I'm a bit of a *****e myself so I'll probably be able to relate to these incarnations of the characters more.

I think I'm misunderstanding you then, because I don't think there's any positive connotation to the word '*****e,' and I don't think any *****ebaggery is shown in JL 1. Are you confusing confidence, or dominant personalities with *****ebaggery?

Welcome to the Hype, loveless1! No need to feel nervous about posting, I think we're mostly a friendly bunch. And it was a good first post. :)

It's interesting to hear from the perspective of a new reader that DC has drawn in with this relaunch, as on forums like this, such a person is often only a hypothetical being. I don't really agree with the "*****e" thing, though I can see where you're coming from, particularly in the depiction of Hal. To me, it came across more as a straight man/funny guy type "buddy cop" pairing, which will hopefully evolve as we get a larger team dynamic.

It's more the word "*****e" in particular that has became an exhausted buzzword in the context of a different conversation elsewhere on the boards. Based on the Action Comics preview, which had Superman jumping off roofs with bad guys and taunting the cops, you had the people who disliked the approach to the character using "*****e Superman" over and over ad nauseum, while those who liked the approach argue about the term being overly simplistic and reductive, not to mention premature. So I think the word "*****e" brings a bit of a kneejerk response around these parts.

No I wouldn't say I'm confusing the two, I'm not sure where everyone is located but I'm from Australia and down here we generally call our best friends all sorts of horrible things so it takes a lot of the negative connotations away from the words.

'I'm a Green Lantern and I can handle anything', don't get me wrong I love the confidence and it's fine to think that but saying it out loud just screams 'I'm a *****e'

Ah fair enough, I'll just use 'Over-Confident' diplomacy for the win.

As for the new reader thing, I saw a lot of people on the board talking about how something like this won't bring in new readers and I was like 'hmmmm am I getting suckered or something cause I'm having a geekgasm over here'

Yeah I'm from las vegas so it might be kind of a culture clash thing going on, but I wouldn't describe that attitude as *****ey, just a naive overconfidence.

I really dig the kind of 'machismo brotherhood' deal that johns seems to be setting up between all the characters though, like you would find between firefighters or folks in the armed forces. It keeps things interesting when there's a sort of conflict between any two given characters when they're alone with each other

Yeah, in the real world, quite a few of my friends who know I'm the "comic guy" have asked me about this relaunch and how to get into buying the comics. But communities like this tend to be rather entrenched and insular, so you don't get much perspective beyond that of the hardcore fan.

I've been reading for 7ish years and I still had a geekgasm tbqh
