It's interesting to me that DC is using Justice League to "re-introduce" all of our heroes and bring us into this new continuity. Kind of a curious approach, instead of doing that with the individual books leading into JL.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed JL. Probably the first time Johns didn't write Batman as a prick. Hal on the other hand... almost insufferably arrogant right from the start.

Well that's depressing but not unexpected

Makes me glad that Superman pimp slapped him

I don't know about Batman but GL should be done with Superman professionally after the beating he took at his hands.

Superman is always happiest when he's beating his friends on the league senseless as the silver age proves

So is the first issue of the new Justice League worth buying

It's one of the new series I'm not sure whether to bother buying or not
I bought it and i regretted it. Nothing happens anyway, so why bother? Save your money and buy something else, like Demon Knights, Action, Batman, Batwoman, JLI, Swamp Thing, etc. Hell... if you dont know what to buy, just buy Action Comics multiple times. :awesome:

I'm going to be buying all the comic books you just mentioned

Especially Batwoman :atp: cannot wait to buy that in just two weeks :hrt:

Justice League #1 for me was a pretty good introduction, but what i have to mention here is that unlike majority of team books that begin with nice explosions and set the origin on action, this one rather takes a backstep on action almost immediately after the initial action shots of Batman & Green Lantern vs. Parademon, the issue here focuses on people, much like Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man focuses 1st on the characters, then on Spider-Man being Spider-Man and then Loeb's Ultimate X which focuses on the roster and their personal background, this issue focuses on Hal Jordan's career as a space cop, Vic's new origin and Batman being Batman. I never understood why people try to claim Johns hates Batman, and those lines are becoming even more absurd with both Flashpoint and this issue, this is a novice Batman but he still manages to surprise Green Lantern and the reader with a very "Grant Morrison" scene where Batman sneaks and outsmarts Hal Jordan, bloody awesome.

The issue covers the Parademons, Darkside's initial launch, but the issue ends in a very weird way with the Man of Steel just punching Hal withouth an warning, but hot damn does Lee's Superman look so darn handsome!

So yeah what worked for Ultimates & Ultimate Spider-Man alongside Ultimate X, is definately working for the Justice League too: Characters before Spandex costumes. :D
I'd give it a 8/10 rating, it's exactly what Johns promised the readers.

JL1 was boring. not much story happening and lee's art is at it's worst.

interesting.......

I'll prob pick this one up today.......

would a JLA "newbie" enjoy this issue?

It's exactly intended for people like you. It doesn't begin with the team being mere spandex depthless heroes facing off a big villain, it's about these characters being actual people and thus the issue is deemed "slow" and "nothing happens!!!!" by some, because what it does is show you Batman and Green Lantern as characters.

Still you could always wait for the trade, because #2 won't come till what? 7 weeks lol? <_>

I was going to pick it up today, but my local Books A Million doesn't have it and their isn't any close comic book shops around me.

Guess I'll wait a few days and see if they get it, if not, I'm waiting on the trade.

Wait, what? Seriously?

Why? Is it to give Lee a larger head start on his work, or are they saying that Aug 31st counts as a September release, and thus no. 2 will be out in October?

Yeah, but you would assume #2 comes early October, but no it's coming Mid/Late October. Tho #3 seems to have it on good track, so yeah who knows.

The best thing about this issue was Jim Lee and Scott Williams' fantastic art and the "buddy cop" dynamic between Batman and Green Lantern. It makes sense from the standpoint of attracting new readers for Geoff Johns to have the two most currently popular characters who are also heavily promoted in the mass media headlining the first issue, and it's a nice contrast he makes between the no-nonsense, methodical Bruce Wayne and the cocky, impulsive Hal Jordan (the whole time I kept imagining Batman as voiced by Kevin Conroy and Green Lantern as voiced by Ryan Reynolds). I also still stand by my belief that Jim Lee is, thus far, the best illustrator to show Superman in his new duds. And from what little we see of Superman, he seems more "bruiser" than "boy scout" this time around.

That being said, the biggest negative is that, for the kick-off of the new DC Universe post-relaunch and an introduction for new readers, it feels way too thin and it just smacks of "writing for the trade." I realize this is part one of a six part story, but considering the circumstances, this issue should have had a lot more story. At the very least, Johns could have given us brief introductions to Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman similar to what he did with Vic Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg. Although I certainly enjoyed it and thought it was pretty good, this issue really could have been a whole lot more than what it was.

With Jim Lee's artwork i'm only expecting spectacle, the story is ok and i'm a newby in JLA, ihope that they introduce more story like what happened with The Ultimates but in more cosmic proportions

I enjoyed this issue is only because I know eventually this will be a book about the Big Seven minus J'onn. I think that Lee is frakkin' awesome here and truly shines, he even seems to have improved since Hush and For Tomorrow. Issue one is meant to be a primer for what this universe is gonna be like and honestly I'm very excited for it after this.

So that was a Parademon that Batman was chasing in the preview.

Do we know if Cyborg was still a Teen Titan in this universe or is the league the first team he ever joined in this continuity

The only design i hate right now is Harley Quin's

the issue here focuses on people, much like Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man focuses 1st on the characters,
You mean that over the top characterization for dummies?

Batman and Hal were both obnoxious and this whole thing could have been replaced by a story where the league is just formed and fights its first battle. Through flashbacks Johns could have shown us its formation, which should have been shorter and without all those sitcom interactions.
a very "Grant Morrison" scene where Batman sneaks and outsmarts Hal Jordan, bloody awesome.
You mean Frank Miller right? Batman was a *****e and Hal was borderline ******ed while that scene was almost identical to the one we had in All Star Batman.

I'd love to hear what those characters are based on JL#1. There's more, better handled, subtler, and more correct characterization in one page of Inc than there in this whole book.

So that was a Parademon that Batman was chasing in the preview.
Yeah, unfortunately that was a Parademon. I cant wait to see how they'll screw the other New Gods.

This thread is like a Miserable People Annonymous meeting.

I only flipped through the comic, but it seemed to me that everyone was kind of fixated on what everyone else could do. Was the issue as much people reciting lists of their powers as it seemed on my cursory glance?

hye guys, i just picked up two comics. This one I will read and open

But, this, with the comic still in it's plastic cover, i will keep forever....... is that a good move. Was it better to keep the regular comic in mint condition.
