Official New Avengers Discussion Thread!

It pretty much spelled out exactly why it does have business being in this title in the last issue.

Other than the fact that Strange was a part of the NA and lost his spot as SS helping them, he also needs to track down/fight the Hood who is connected to Osborn and the NA need to try to prove the Osborn/Hood connection.

Even though I want Strange to remain the SS, I've gotta say that this is one of the more interesting story arcs recently. Bachelo's art has been incredible too.
but it seems so isolated from the rest of the team. Dr. Strange has always been more of a solo star. This is something that should have been launched into a mini revolving around him. Its not a story that needs to be told in New Avengers

Yeah but that connection is weak still I mean right now the Hood is going up against the Punisher, messing with the Marvel Zombies, and soon will be in charge of the Initiative. So why aren't they involved. This story would be more interesting if it didn't follow such a formula. the last issue of the arc is where we'll see the big fight and new SS.
Eh, not necessarilly. Personally, I have no idea how this is going to play out or who the SS is going to be so I'm not really too bothered by the 6-issue-arc formula.

As for Hood in the Initiative and Punisher, I have no idea what's going on in those other books so I don't really know jack about what Hood's doing outside of NA. But on the other hand, Hood really started getting involved in NA under Bendis, and the Hood has become a part of Dark Reign/the Cabal under Bendis, and little hints about what was going on with him have been dropped ever since he first started showing up in NA under Bendis.

If Bendis didn't deal with the Hood and the SS in NA, the book where he started all of those plot lines, it would be ******ED and I would be like, "Whatever happenned with the Hood and Dr. Strange?" And if I had to get a seperate mini I just to find out I would be even more pissed.

Apparently I don't read enough comics because I have no clue who that "Son of Satan" dude was supposed to be. Can anyone clue me in? :(

Go read a crap load of old Defenders. Great magazine!!!

He was in there alot with Strange, Hulk, Namor, Surfer, Valkyrie, Gargoyle, Nighthawk, and Hellcat and many others.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Yup, never read any of those! :p He got a name? Or is Son of Satan it?

Daimon Hellstrom is his real name. He's been called the Son of Satan or Hellstorm at various times, but he's not usually a "superhero codename" sort of guy.

No problem. Who his father is is debatable. He's been retconned into all kinds of "devil-like" characters so that they could skirt the issue of bringing the biblical Satan into the Marvel universe. The most recent one I heard of was Marduk Kurios, some kind of Mesopotamian demon or something. But, since Ghost Rider's revamp, Satan seems to be acceptable fodder for the Marvel universe, so we can probably just assume his daddy's the "real" Satan now.

I'd actually prefer that. I think Bendis writes both the Hood and Dr. Strange awful. The Hood and Dr. Strange could easily carry a mini series about the new SS if BKV wrote it.

Yeah, seriously.

Like, as it is, something that could be a great mini-summer event (and the mystical event that many have been asking for) is going to get utterly nerfed in NA.

plus the Hood and Dr. Strange existed outside of NA and been written much better outside of NA. I don't think anyone has done the Hood that well since his mini.

I thought he was basically just Dormammu's puppet since he resurfaced in New Avengers after Civil War.

He had a personality in the mini. I'm so glad Jeff Parker is writing the DR: Hood mini and Kyle Holtz is doing the art so Parker will actually look like Parker actually look 20something instead the 40 year old man he looks like when some other artists draw him.

Too bad nobody has been using either until Bendis started using them. Honestly, NOBODY used the Hood after the MAX mini until Bendis started using him in NA and besides BKV (for one mini) and Bendis, nobody else has touched Dr. Strange.

I'm sure that must mean that nobody else at Marvel liked or cared about Dr. Strange at all.

JMS has touched Strange not that long ago, though I didn't like it.

Maybe if Bendis wasn't using them, someone else could have and done much better things with them.

Didn't Strange's powers start failing before the incident with Zom, to which Bendis is attributing the need for a new Sorcerer Supreme to?

Keep in mind that in every other appearance he has had EVER he has NEVER dressed or acted like that. That was the one part of the issue I thought was ******ed.

Even in that MAX mini he was more like a "detective" John Constantine type of character. Not a freakin' hot headed (fire hair? wtf?) punk rocker.

Though I am pretty excited to see Hellstorm vs. the Hood.

Great issue, IMO. I have to say, Bachelo is great at drawing crazy looking stuff. ANother thing I really want to say is how great The Hood has been in Dark Reign so far. Loved the ending in this issue involving him as well.

So, overall, once again, Bendis has showed his great storytelling abilities.

What are you talking about? Besides the pants he looks like the original. His cape isn't on but he is relaxing.

Here he is with his normal level of Darksoul on.

And here he is with full on Darksoul.

And here's a scene where he's acting brash and ill tempered towards Hellcat in devil form.

He was always going off on people. Then he'd be all serene. Kinda Bi-polar.

But what do ya expect from the frakin' Son of Satan?

:ff: :ff: :ff:

That's Hellcat? Looks more like Satana, plus she calls Satan "father."

I preferred this look for Daimon:

If anyone can rock a metal-ish all leather ensemble, it's the Son of Satan.

No that's Hellcat. And guess who told her she was Damion's sister? You guessed it. The Lord of Lies.

Can't argue with you there. As long as he doesn't wear that damn Hellstorm crap.
