Can someone please tell me exactly what does the Sentry do?
Again this guy shows up, big entrance and in 2 seconds is immobilized, ineffective and just a complete lost.
It happened in Secret Invasion. It has Happened in Dark Avengers with Morgan le Fey and it just happened again. The only time it didn't happen was in WW Hulk, but it took 5 issues to convince him to do it. If this is what if Superman was in the MU .It Sucks! My boy shows up, "Here I am to save the Day!" and then curls up into a ball, gets scared and runs off or Some *&^%$ happens to him. I think it's like "ok this dude is so powerful. He can finish any fight in seconds, but we cant have that, sooo make him unable to do it 2 seconds."
i already see some other year's event Dude turns bad and everybody has to stop him.
Boo!
The Sentry is written to be this ambiguous, vastly powerful character with no equal, who also generates a vastly powerful villan who's also thought to have no equal.
He suffers from several different phobias, and at least a couple personality disorders, which highly inhibit his ability to use his power. Originally, he'd forgo this but shedding his fears and doubts becoming the Sentry, gaining vast power. However, this came at the cost of bringing to life the Void, which is apparently the representation of everything Robert wants to be, but is muddled by his fears and frustrations, and so the Sentry is always the more powerful of the two. Generally speaking, Robert actually believes the more power he uses raises the chance of a Void attack, which was later retconned into whenever he BECAME the Sentry, the Void attacked however many people the Sentry saved. However, it's still believed the more power the Sentry accesses, and greater deeds he does, the more powerful the Void becomes, and the more evil he does. So the Sentry I guess is now trying to contain his entire personality in one form, resulting in this s***storm Bendis is writing, since before, the Sentry wasn't like this at all.
As for what he can do? It's known he can fly, stay invulnerable, is nearly immune to telepathic intrusion, moves faster than lightspeed, can hear even the most smallest of sounds like beetles walking along the ground in Africa while he's in the Sentry Watchtower in New York, is stronger than the Hulk (the Sentry apparently he's stronger than the Void, who apparently is stronger than the Hulk), can shoot energy blasts, can apparently reformat matter, or at least biology (it is implied he rearranged his psychiatrist's daughter's brain so she no longer suffered from a developmental disease), and can apparently bring people back to life (in the case of his wife).
He's usually rumored to simply just be the most powerful guy walking around, with an alleged battle with Galactus resulting in Galactus going away in a tie, crushing Terrax, annihilating Attuma, fighting off the entirety of the Inhumans, and eating up Black Bolt's voice: and all without any effort (omit the Galactus thing), which is reinforced by him saying he's actually never gone all out in the past. (Though, apparently, he had to go all out against War Hulk, which sorta mega crap nerfs him into the ground, or it's explained as being persuaded to not utilize his power as he'd also be a great destroyer rather than hero. There's camps on each side of that). When he was fighting the most current of Earth based Ultron models, he apparently wasn't having much trouble fighting Ultron, and really more or less was eating blows to prevent from hurting the host, when Ultron uncharacteristically asked the Sentry why wouldn't he just leave Earth, and everybody behind? Effectively moving away from his standard stance of killing life, which leads to the idea the Sentry is above the current Ultron's ability to destroy. Also, he apparently was having no problem fighting against the Collective, which contained at least five Omega level mutant powers within it.
*points to butt*
Bendis either:
Can't write really powerful character so he chooses to nerf them instead
or
Really dislikes Strange, Sentry, and Thor
He nerfed Strange, but to his credit, he actually portrayed the Sentry pretty well in the power department. Sentry was too powerful to use, and either easily handled situations as a last resort.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Loki is the God of mischief and all. She's certainly shown throughout the Marvel universe that she really doesn't usually have good intentions. Somehow Loki will benefit from whatever happens. Could be a way to screw with Norman Osborn further because I know her and Doom don't really enjoy being "bossed" around by Osborn.
Should be interesting to see where that plot thread goes.
Bendis has this nice ability to build build build build plots, then have them fall flat in the end, with lots of mischaracterization. If you think you're getting a cunning Loki, well...think again.
I liked the Mockingbird stuff in the preview of the last issue. But I've tried and been burned by New Avengers 3 or 4 times now, so I'm not gonna go back again.
Eh, I'm not thrilled with Mockingbird, or any of the NA stuff.
I've pretty much enjoyed this series right from the beginning.

Maybe it's because I didn't know the Avengers that well before this.
Unfortunately, that's why. :P But hey, as long as you enjoy it, no reason to not buy. =D
Except your dog won't be returned to you, since you're supporting Bendis financially. =D
