Official New Avengers Discussion Thread!

I can dig that. I mean i DO like how the marvel heroes have been sharing their villains with each other alot during the last several years, it gives the MU a united feeling. Its cool seeing Daredevil fighting Spiderman's villains, or the Avengers fighting the FF4's villains etc etc. But still, the inner fanboy in me likes to see certain rivalries remain intact. I was so pissed when Batman ended up killing Darkseid in Final Crisis because i've always been a huge fan of Darkseid's rivalry with Superman. I would've loved to see a huge showdown between the two but whatever.

The same goes with Spiderman/Osborn. I know Osborn has screwed over a lot of people during Dark Reign, but no one has more of an emotional stake in all this than Spiderman. It would just be nice to see some acknowledgement of that.

I understand that this is Cap/Tony/Thor's story but it would just be plain wrong not to have Spiderman do something to Norman. He KILLED HIS FIRST LOVE, Spiderman would be a chump to let the trinity completely steal this victory from him, lord knows this has been years in the making. Plus even though he's supposed to be marvel's mascot, Spiderman's never really had his big moment to shine in a huge marvel event (unless you count his unmasking in Civil War). Now his freakin arch nemesis is a major threat to the MU and he's going to do nothing?

I'm just saying give us two pages where Spiderman is pissed off and confronting Norman and i'll be happy.
And I'm saying it'd be awkward. Spider-Man's only been involved in this whole schtick with Osborn as one Avenger among many up to this point. Going off on a tangent to allow him to, what, punch Osborn for a couple pages? would interrupt the pace of the story to me, which is centered pretty squarely on Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Sentry, Loki, and Osborn at this point. They're the main players and there's only 2 issues left; focus on them and give us a satisfying ending instead of indulging in yet another couple pages of Spidey/Goblin feuding.

Spider-Man's kicked Norman's ass for Gwen's death like half a dozen times at this point. Adding another one to that list at the cost of probably derailing the surprisingly good momentum of Siege's main plot would really disappoint me.
Actually, seeing as Tony's mind has been rebooted back to sometime before Civil War, as far as Stark remembers if they go at it during Siege, it would be the first time they fought.
True. Although, he would've at least read up on Osborn and how he's corrupted the Initiative and such by the time Siege hits. He immediately jumped into getting reacquainted with his recent history at the end of "Stark: Disassembled."

Yes I agree that the story they have presented us it wouldnt make sense that Spider-man would take Osborne down...however logically he moment Norman came to power it should have been Peter's main focus to take him down.
If Dr Doom took over the US you'd expect the FF to be on the point to take him down.
If Magneto did something you'd expect the X-men to be planning his downfall

I guess Pete was too busy in his demon induced dream to worry about his archnemesis

Well, Peter's not exactly on the level of the FF or the X-Men. He's just some schlub, not a world-renowned organization of explorer/scientist/heroes or a world-renowned school/refuge for mutants. Spider-Man often mentions when things seem entirely out of his league, in fact, and I think Norman, as the head of every living thing with powers in the US, qualifies.

But even if you don't subscribe to that notion, that's just bad writing on the part of Spider-Man's writers and/or Bendis. It's not something that should (or could) be magically corrected by having Spider-Man awkwardly yank the spotlight away from Siege's main players.

Besides, Spider-Man fans got The List: Spider-Man, didn't they? Your bone has been thrown. :oldrazz:

Corpy, I hear ya that this should be an Avengers win as opposed to a Spider-Man win, but he should have hand in it, even a small one. Like, Norman is flying off and Spidey webs his jet boot and yanks him back for Cap or Tony to smash....just give us Spidey fans something.

He's there for the battle, just like the rest of the characters who aren't Thor, Iron Man, Cap, the Sentry, Loki, or Osborn. I don't think there's any reason to expect more than that. I just don't see what the big deal is; I'm sure Osborn will be returned to Spider-Man's stable sometime after Siege to be pummeled while Spider-Man cries about Gwen for the billionth time. Blame the Webheads (or whatever name the Spider-Man writers go by) for not tying Amazing Spider-Man into Siege if you really want to point your angry, angry fingers at someone. That would've been the perfect vehicle for some ancillary Spider-Man/Osborn personal drama to unfold while Siege chugs along at its speedy pace and focuses on the conflict of misrepresented good vs. manipulative evil via those 6 main players.

It would be nice to have Spider-Man have some kind of moment, though, in this latest Event.

Secret Invasion? nothing.
Civil War? nothing, besides take his mask off like an idiot.
House of M? nothing.

Especially with his ******ed deal with the devil, let him do something heroic, that's all.

Besides, it sounds like Norman won't make it out of Seige, anyway, if the ASM solicts are any indication.

Right, 'cause death has stopped him from coming back to haunt Spider-Man before. ;)

Norman's gonna live thru Siege, i highly highly doubt he's going to bite it. For one thing, who would kill him? Cap? Tony? Thor? Naaaah. I think Norman's just gonna get publicly disgraced and then get thrown in a jail cell until the next time. The only one dying in Siege will be sentry somehow. And i hope its a painful death too.

Thor could conceivably kill him. Dude did try to annihilate Thor's home and everyone Thor loves. But I suspect you're right, Osborn will live.

Yea Osborns "Died" before, no point of doing it yet again. Im sure Osborn is gonna Pull a Lex Luthor, after he loses his money and power, he goes underground Plotting his next move/Revenge scheme.

Exactly! Marvel was too busy going "Yey! We finally got rid of the wife so now we can write good stories!" Then they go and write hit or miss mediocre stories that barely acknowledged Osborn's rise to power. Yes, I know there were stories related to it, but you'd think this would be a major deal for Pete.

When Osborn took over, I thought here was a chance (as others have posted) for Spider-Man to shine in the Marvel Universe. I mean, what was the purpose of giving this power to Osborn?

Wasted opportunity...

Agreed Spider-Gnome, i mean the first thing that popped into my head when Dark Reign started was how this would be a great opportunity to raise Spider-man's profile and quell alot of the OMD hatred. But they didnt do jack with it, Marvel insists on keeping Spiderman as its resident chump, especially now that Ironman has pretty much become the marvel mascot. Wasted oppurtinuty indeed.

I had an idea of a fanfic that involved Spidey gathering a group of like heroes to take Norman down. Norman gathers Spidey's rogue's gallery and turns them into a shield anti-spider-man task force. In the end Peter dresses up like the Green Goblin and attacks Norman at a press conference pretending to be Harry which causes Norman to snap in front of everyone and he gets removed as Shield head.

I like that twist of Peter dressing up like the Green Goblin and attacking Norman alot. The only thing is i dont think Peter could stomach putting that costume on...then again i would think he couldnt stomach the devil either so that works. That would've been a cool story Roach.

it would have involved psycological warfare on Norman...he fakes his death at the hands of the anti-spider-taskforce and then he gets Venom, Steel Spider, One of the Scarlet Spiders to dress up like spider-man and harrass Norman..I had this scene where Norman keeps Spider-man's skull in his study. It begins to speak to him and starts Norman down the path of nuttiness...and then we find out that its not Spider-man's skull but a piece of Venom that Eddie is able to control.

Who cares about that? Was that Carolyn Trainer? BENDIS used something from Spider-Man continuity? Bendis knows continuity at all?

Carolyn Trainer. :awesome:

I like Iron Man, but Spider-man is still Marvel's most recognizable superhero, and it's a shame that they have been doing nothing but kicking him around like a resident lapdog, first with Civil War and then with OMD, and of course making him lose his job. I don't think DC ever does that to their Holy Trinity (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman).

I thought Bendis had a ***** for Spidey, why hasn't he been doing s***?

He also has a ***** for Luke Cage and Spider-Woman, and he still writes Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man.

That sounds like classic Spidey stuff to me...
