Official New Avengers Discussion Thread!

I don't have a problem with Spidey being successful. I just have a problem with the story inconsistencies. Spider-Man has always been feared/hated with the public. So in his solo book, we get to see that. But when he was in the New Avengers book, we get to see the Avengers have "talk" with JJJ and THAT'S IT. Nothing changed in the Spidey monthly. So I had no idea how to interpret how the public felt about him after he joined the team.

Except...uhh...they weren't really? Spider-Man and Wolverine barely do anything in the books they are in.

Beast and Iceman are worthy. But the others are too *****ey (Cyclops, Wolverine, Angel, Emma Frost, Namor), dead (Jean Grey, Banshee), or really not interesting enough to be on the Avengers (pretty much everyone else).

If I want a solo Spidey, I'll read Amazing Spider-Man :o

Angel was a good Defender, why's he too *****ey to be an Avenger?

Because he's on them there X-Men and not Beast, who gets a pass because he's been an Avenger already, and them there X-Men ain't welcome in these here parts. :o

Eh, for me, the Avengers should be an eclectic mix of successful Marvel characters with some lesser known characters getting their chance to shine amongst the big guys.

I never got people's aversion to having certain characters on the Avengers. The basis is always ''Spider-Man's too successful!" If we use that line of thinking we might as well remove Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man from the ranks.
The Avengers were initially created to put Marvel's most successful characters together in one place. But they've grown a lot from that point 40 years ago, starting with #16 and the departure of the remaining founders in favor of C-listers like Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch. That's what I'd prefer to see more: The Avengers are a great place to showcase good but less popular characters alongside big names, but they don't need big names like Spider-Man and Wolverine because the franchise already has its own big names like Thor, Cap, Iron Man, et al.

the good old days

Eh, it doesn't really hurt though. People act like their presence hurts. If anything it makes sense that Spider-Man and Wolverine would serve alongside other premiere heroes like Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Cap in the Avengers. Especially Spider-Man.

I don't want DD on the Avengers cuz he bores me and I hate him. Nothing to do with his current success already.

Spider-Man I'm actually okay with. I wouldn't personally put him on the team, but I don't hate the fact that he's there. Wolverine just bugs me because he's everywhere. I'm with Spoons on Daredevil: couldn't care less about the character, so I don't want him stinking up my Avengers. The X-Men already have a team, but there are a few I could abide on the Avengers: Beast, Nightcrawler, Angel (provided he ditches the murderous alter-ego and is suitably penitent about it), maybe Colossus or Iceman.

See, I can see Storm working on the Avengers really well as well. Maybe put her and T'Challa back on a team together. It could be fun and we could actually see that relationship written competently for a change.

I just get bugged because it seems like (and I'm by no means a Bendis fan/supporter, he's just merely alright for me.) no matter what Bendis does with the franchise people aren't happy.

They want less popular heroes on the roster, band want want more C/D Listers, but when he puts a C or D Lister on the team everyone complains about them. (Luke Cage (though it's arguable he's move beyond C list now), Spider-Woman, Sentry, I've seen pretty much more complaints than compliments for choosing them around the net. Even Mockingbird's getting complaints for being back on the team and she was one ages ago!)

Well that's the first law of Internet fandom: We'll never be happy.

Honestly, the only members I've disliked were Wolverine and Echo. Wolvie is overexposed as it is and contributes nothing to the team, and Echo was just dull. My issue with Bendis is that, save the period between "Civil War" and "Secret Invasion", his Avengers books have just bored the hell out of me.

It's never made sense for spider-man and wolverine to team up for any reason. Might as well jam the punisher in there while we're at it.

Well, I can only speak for myself. Luke's cool but Bendis sort of treats him like the be-all, end-all of the Avengers, even having him lead the New Avengers (terribly) over Hawkeye (who's a great leader). Storm does nothing for me, probably because she's some random mutant who can do like 90% of the things Thor can and sometimes more, which kind of bugs me. I hate Spider-Woman a lot; if they needed a spider-chick on the Avengers, Julia Carpenter should've been their gal. Mockingbird I have no problem with. I kind of like that Bendis has made her and Clint such a big part of New Avengers lately. I can't say I really like her more bloodthirsty, *****ebaggy nature, but it's better than rotting in limbo.
Members of X-Force should not be Avengers :o
I completely agree. As far as I'm concerned, X-Force is the anti-Avengers at best and one step shy of being villains at worst.

Why b/c they have the stones to get **** done even if that means killing a few bad guys?:o

The Avengers have always gotten s*** done. That's why they were the world's premiere super-team and had just obtained UN status before Bendis tore that all down. They're the shining example of heroism, which, for everyone who isn't you, does not call for coldblooded murder at every opportunity. :o

I think for all the new characters brought in there were pre existing Avengers who could have fit the bill....Need a crazy person who occassionaly kills..Hulk could have been that person....Quicksilver and Namor are pretty unpredictable too

An airplane full of superheroes falling out of the sky is the epitome of excitement and you know it.

I actually really like the idea of X-Force and wouldn't mind seeing an Avengers version of the same thing. I don't think it could carry an entire ongoing, and I dunno who would be on it, but it could be pretty cool to me.

Not really if you think about it.

The Avengers and the Justice League have saved the world dozens of times over without resorting to murder and and lethal force.

I like the concept of X-Force, but that doesn't mean that I see them as heroes. I see them the same way Corp does, their actions are borderline villainous. They have no place in the Avengers until they get their acts together. The same way Ollie should not be in the Justice League until he gets his act together.
