Official: Prince of Persia Next-Gen Thread

The gametrailers review confirms a lot of things I was afraid of (even though they gave it an 8.7)

"Things have been simmered down to the essence here, making the gameplay more like Simon Sez"

"It becomes more about memorizing visual cues, than freely traversing the environment".

"You feel there are moments where the game is playing itself"

"You don't need to explore it (the combat system), just about any multi-hit combo involving Elika will allow you to defeat just about any enemy in the game without a scratch. There's no need to block, counter-attack or utilize the swordplay at all."

"PoP's gameplay has been created with the casual player in mind. From the almost automatic platforming to the formality of the combat, the game doesn't put up much resistance."

I'll pass

yeah it appears that it might be a bit on the easy side but we can only hope they change that when they get around to releasing the DLC

GameStop may have it tomorrow but more likely Thursday. The codes are a limited supply (what a surprise :whatever:). Why can't they just make the release date the day they will get it and not the day it ships? This happens with every non-major game.

I need new friends. I preordered this at a GameStop near my house. I'm at school and my parents will be away when it comes out Thurs (which I just found out today). So I ask 2 of my friends (the only two who are still in my hometown) if they'd pick it up. I told them my mom would drop off some cash, the receipt, and a print out from GameStop's site about what they're supposed to get. They both were perplexed why I need it on Thurs and when I tell them about the code, they just say "Why do you need it? It's just a code for extra stuff you don't need". I would do it for them if they asked me :o

Sounds like you just need friends who understand gamers. Extra stuff is our bread and butter.

I watched a review online yesterday that said the controls are really simplified, too. I'm a little worried about that, since the other PoP games' controls were pretty much perfect, but we'll see how it goes.

Played it for a couple of hours yesterday. Pretty cool (though not as good as SoT), but I couldn't help but remember he's not a prince and this isn't Persia!

I went to GS this morning to get my copy and the guy told me that UPS came to drop it off this morning but no one was around to accept :( Im going to check back in 90 minuts bc he said they might have it by 1

I really do. I have 2 friends who are into gaming like I am. One buys everything he wants the day it comes out.

I hope the GameStop I ordered it from gets it today. Just makes it easier for me.

I went yesterday after work because I saw the release date listed for 12/2 on GameFAQs, but they told me they don't get it until today. I hope some of the codes are still there by the time I get out of work at 5.

I am excited to play this. I have no problem with the game being too "easy". 10-12 hours while being easy is a great length by today's standards.

Games are supposed to be fun. Like the Gametrailers review said, leave your competitive gamer side at the door and just enjoy what sounds like a great experience.

I agree for the most part, but the review I saw on GamesRadar said that pretty much everything is mapped to the same button, so it almost feels like the game is on autopilot a lot of the time. That's just not cool. Easy to use controls are one thing, but too much and you lose some of the interactivity that makes games worth playing in the first place. I don't want to have to pull off a thirty-button combo to wall-run, but I don't want to just be tapping one button over and over to do everything, either.

Assassin's Creed basically used one button to do all of the platforming stuff, and it worked great and was loads of fun to do.

Hmm, that's true. Like I said, I'll wait and see. It just got me a little worried to hear the word "autopilot" in that review.

Kingdom Hearts was the same. Every action was done with the X button except jumping.

Yeah, but Kingdom Hearts was an RPG, so it was more about the story than the gameplay. Dreamfall practically played itself but I still loved that because the game wasn't about gameplay. An action platformer like PoP is more about the gameplay and actually pulling off the jumps and figuring things out. At least for me.

Kingdom Hearts was not an RPG. It was an Action-Adventure game. The only RPG elements to it were switching party members (which was optional and most of the time pointless) and equipping abilities.

Okay, but the main draw of the game was just seeing what would happen next and what other Disney characters you'd encounter. Controls didn't factor in as much because you were a dude running around on the ground, not a guy hurling himself from platform to platform a mile in the air.

This is all sort of beating a dead horse, though. I'm still looking forward to PoP, and I bet the controls won't be as braindead as the reviews make them sound. Reviewers tend to want much more challenging games than I do, by and large.

I really didnt like AC. My biggest fear was that this game would play like it considering its another Ubisoft title with similar gameplay aspects.. I hope the PoP reviews arent just overrated hype like AC recieved

I thought AC was pretty fun. A little repetitive after a while, but the gameplay was solid.

KH was definetly an RPG. Action RPG to be exact

The gameplay was damn near perfect, at least in how everything controlled.

I really wanna play this game tho, if the game is fun, there is a good story i dont care how easy it is. I much rather have an engaging story thats too easy than an engaging story that every time i get to a boss i have to replay the battle 15 times.

It was not an RPG like Final Fantasy or Pokemon. Calling Kingdom Hearts an RPG is like calling The Legend of Zelda a puzzle game. They only contain minor elements of these genres but they are both Action-Adventure games.
